Gameday to State College Next Week

Submitted by stephenrjking on

Just came across my ESPN app. I'm not jumping off a bridge like some others are, but I confess I am less excited about this than I was before it became clear that our offense has less air power than Saddam Hussein after Desert Storm.

Their offense is Saquon Barkley shut him down and we have a chance ... I think we win this one 20-10

I like your optimism but it's a white out .... they have had a week off to rest and prepare, unless Tom Brady suits up next weekend, or unless our offense can figure out what touchdowns are in the redzone .... I don't think our defense will be able to hold Barkley and company back from blowing this one open

Um Have you watched penn state this year?

I'd argue that McSorley/Desean Hamilton/Gesiki have been more effective than Barkley outside of the Iowa game

It's clear most on this board do not have it. It will be a tough game, but PSU has a bad OL, we have a great DL. You always have a chance if you win that matchup. Big time programs don't shy away from these games. Lets get it done blue! M 21 PSU 17

I can be a big pussy if I want, I'm not playing! hopefully the players have a different outlook (I think they do).

We certainly can win the game. It's going to take a herculean effort with many breaks going our way, in addition to a fast start on offense.  If we can contain Barkley (I think we will), this will come down to the 4th quarter where anything can happen.

We finally found something on offense that we can lean on. Sustain drives, work off the power play, and let's see what happens.  There have been some nice wrinkles thrown into the run game the last couple games.

Go Blue!

at home at night to a horrible msu team. Our offense is bad; I love the optimism. Our QB is not good; he struggles to look away from one receiver, he will be under constant pressure. I am not convinced this coaching staff even will give Higdon enough carries, PSU will have the box stacked and our defense cannot continue to bail our offense out against quality opponents. This game won't be good.

Penn St. will load the box and make O’Korn beat them through the air. As you and I know that is a far off fantasy! Barkley and their Oline will where our D down. The ineptitude of O’Korn will lead to our demise. 27-17 Penn State. We get a pick 6, a Higdon TD and a fg. I hope the guru can work his magic

Barkley out wide with McCray on him and that match-up not going well. They'll exploit our weakness to their strength better than we can exploit their defensive weaknesses. If Bush covers him they've eliminated one of best blitzers. I would take my chances with Bush on Barkley all game. Speed for speed and hope the pass rush can contain McSorley from too many effective QB runs. I mean...if Iowa can nearly do it!...and should have had they played for a last second FG and not scored a TD.

One (OSU 15). In Two and a half years. I give our coaching staff a lot more credit than most on this board.  We'll be ready.  We'll shut down Barkley.  Franklin will whine a lot and have that puzzled look on his face.  Go Fucking Blue.

I don't get why people on the board keep bringing up close losses as some sort of minor positive... If the argument that Harbaugh only loses close should bring people comfort then the flipside is to see how many games were won close as well:

  1. Minnesota '15 (29-26)
  2. Indiana '15 (48-41 2OT)
  3. Wisconsin '16 (14-7)
  4. Indiana '16 (20-10)
  5. Indiana '17 (27-20 OT)

So, theoretically Harbaugh is as close to being 31-1 as he is to being 20-12.

Eh I don't believe in moral victories but there is something materially different about a team that loses and a team that gets blown out. You do bring up a good point though because there's also something materially different about a team that narrowly beats bad opponents and a team that crushes them.

Good teams win close games against lesser teams sometimes. WTF is wrong with you? Look at what Clemson did in that regard LAST YEAR, when it won the National Championship! And seriously, you're going to throw shade at beating that 2016 UW team by 7?

But geez, I still don't know how PSU scores on us consistently.  I still believe that without the hurricane during the MSU game, we'd still be undefeated.

Our O-line looked much better against the best defense it's faced all season.  Next week should be fun.  If we cut out the penalties and maybe, just maybe, have some fun with the offensive playcalling, we could be back in the top 10 next Sunday.

It’s not that PSU needs to score consistently, the fear is that say Saquon breaks a long one, they get a jump ball TD and a FG somewhere along the line and hit 17 points. Defense does it’s job and holds them to just that. With the way the offense has looked, I’m not sure they have 18 points in them to win.
