Purdue Trash Talk Follow-Up

Submitted by South Bend Wolverine on

A bit of a cheap post, but it's Sunday afternoon, and this makes me happy:

Purdue WR Gregory Phillips before the game: "It's going to be a surprise when people see us beat Michigan ... nobody can stop us right now except ourselves."

Purdue WR Gregory Phillips during the game: 0 catches for 0 yards, 0 rushes for 0 yards, 0 touchdowns.

Khaleke Hudson had it right - talk is cheap.

Filling seats. I suspect Phillips was tasked with making his statement to boost ticket sales and also lift team and community spirit. I don't believe it was just that kid because otherwise the staff would have gagged social media. Unfortunately for Purdue, a superior being from another dimension teleported from a hostile alien world, we call it Don Brown, mounted impregnable defense second half and moreover sports an impregnable mustache, which is really an extraterrestrial alien breathing device they say. Them. We won. I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm seldom happy with everything between the opening kickoff and the end of game. Also, there is this O'Korn fellow I have acquired new faith in. Let's see what he can do, shall we?

The Reddit thread about them not having AC in the visitor's locker room is a treasure trove of assholes not being able to admit that it's a bad look and possibly dangerous to player safety. So the fact their mediocre players couldn't back up their talk seems to be a common theme in that school.

Screw that trash talking team, their dirty play, and their coach who is supposedly better than don brown. Glad to put them in the rear view but I'll root against Brohm going forward

Can't hate their fans. Their program is generating some excitement for once, I'm sure they're getting swept up in it. Same can be said about their players...to an extent. So while their trash talking was a dumb move, I put it in the same category. The cheap shots, late hits, and the smiles thereafter, however, are a lot more troublesome to me. Also, Coach Baldy needs some Valium.

How about that student manager who blabbed Purdue's first play from scrimmage? I wouldn't tell that kid anything about the gameplan from here on out...

It was their Super Bowl so all about being a THUG and cheap shot artist . Who is the spaert QB. No cheap shots but get the rising backup better be ready. Maybe Iowa will make some pulp beforehand.

O'Korn played magnificently, but we did run the ball in for our last 3 TDs against a defense that was worn out because it's offense couldn't stay on the field and was missing two starters due to ejections. If we had better red zone play-calling and run-blocking last week, and if AFA's defense was a shambles, I think the Speight hate wouldn't be as great, and we'd be missing him, mate.

Much of the Purdue hype that I found on Twitter yesterday was being reported to Old Takes Exposed this morning for future reference. The object lesson in this case being that, confident you may have been, but you are Purdue at the end of the day and that's what matters.

Went to Lansing to Watch ND v MSU. Watched M Game with Houseful of Spartans who were euphoric when we were at 10-7 n Speight got hurt. Loved the methodical 21 points unanswered, the house quieted down a lot, I could actually hear the music. The whole house wanted M to Lose, more than MSU to win. Went to MSU v ND, they had coordinated to Stripe stadium, odd sections white, even green. I wore Maize. Found my seats, next to another Wolverine wearing maize. HAIL. (BTW My Lansing Observations, Spartan Girls Way Hot, Spartans Look Dumb in Foam Spartan hats. Walking to Game was like walking on the surface of Mercury, Planet not Freddie)
