Semi-OT: Per Mike Lombardi, Malik McDowell Might Not Play Again (Unverified)

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

Land of 10 quotes Mike Lombardi as saying:

“The Malik McDowell kid that they drafted in the second round, he may not play football again. He’s really injured,” Lombardi said. “I hear from people around the league he may not play football again.”

I am by no means a Malik fan, but it would be a shame to see somebody with so much talent have his career end before it starts because of a freak accident.

EDIT: I added "unverified" to the title to make it less click-baity.

Injuries and wishing poor luck in life is just a depth I won't go to. That said, I could have swore he recently sent out an IG picture of him in a car saying "I'm fine". This was after the first time the rumor surfaced. So, rumor at the moment. It would be terrible if he was done and have no idea why this rumor would even be a thing.

I fully expected to click on the link and have a good laugh because it would be about his character, work ethic or inability to be coached. Then I saw it was a serious injury and though "man, that really sucks." Seriously, career ending injuries suck no matter when they come, but to happen in the preseason of your rookie year really sucks.

This is just rumor and stuff people are hearing (according to the link, Lombardi is just saying he's hearing things) right now. So my takeaway is not that McDowell is done; my takeaway is that this is serious enough that such discussion isn't ridiculous.

People certainly are tight-lipped about it, strangely so. Not good. And if it does wind up ending his career, what a terrible tragedy, attitude or otherwise.

What a tragic turn of events in this young man's life, if true. I can see no good in rooting against this man. No matter what, he has dreams just like all of us. Get well, Malik.

I read a couple articles and both don't look good for him. There were rumors of this before the trade with the Jets. Think he really screwed himself this time.

Lead paragraph:

While there is no timetable for Seahawks defensive tackle Malik McDowell to return to football activities, the team’s second-round draft pick will begin to show up to the team’s facility far more often in the coming weeks.

I'd have to think that more info will leak out as he nears a return to Seattle in a few weeks.

That process of returning to work, if only to greet coworkers, is what we've been using for our lost time and light duty employees.  From what I understand getting back into the going to work routine, even if only for a few minutes each day, can greatly reduce the healing time and time required to return to work full time.
