With Harvey hammering Texas, does the UF game get cancelled/ postponed/ moved?

Submitted by UMBSnMBA on

I'm surprised that no one has yet raised this, but formerly Hurricane Harvey is moving very slowly and the current track progressions show it possibly hitting as far as Dallas as late as Friday.  Any thoughts on whether this disrupts the game, disrupts the team's travel and preparations, or has other impacts on what transpires next weekend?

Quite true, although my parents still like to muse about how Frederick in 1979 was still a reasonably well-structured tropical depression by the time its remains got to the Great Lakes region. I can remember that happening a few times in the 1990s too, where what remained by the time it got to us up here was still no slouch even it was long dead as a hurricane.

Texas is a big state. Houston and Dallas are not close. Even when Sandy hit the Bortheast, there was minimal damage >100 miles in and almost no damage >200 miles (I mean there was some, but it was like a normal thunderstorm type damage).

If they decide to turn Jerryworld into a shelter for evacuees, then the game could be cancelled, but I haven't heard that mentioned as a possibility. They're already planning on using the Dallas Convention Center as a shelter, so that probably lessens the possibility of a cancellation.

If the game was going to be outside in hurricane conditions I would recommend using Brian Kelly's game plan. Worked like a charm last year.

If the storm is still significant enough in a week, and it's somehow moved inland about 250 miles, then sure.  But Texas would have way more pressing issues than a football game at that point.

We flew into Dallas yesterday afternoon, and are staying in a Dallas hotel (yes, believe it or not they still had room). We will be in Downtown Fort Worth the rest of the week until we leave next week.  It is not a mess, the airport was normal as far as being busy, and the weather yesterday was 86 degrees and humid.  It is fine in Dallas, come out out and Go Blue

My concern is gtting into my Hotel.  With all of the people that need to be relocated away from Houston it is possible they will "temporarily" check them into hotels near Dallas,. Once they are in getting them out in time for us to check in for the game is questionable.

Dallas has an estimated 500,000 refugees right now. Michigan and Florida should move the game to Gainesville and give up the hotel space.

according to TWC... whose reporting is getting more annoying by day... anyway Dallas was getting ready to receive an influx of evacuees.. the number mentioned was 5000 which seems a low estimate.
