Thoughts on Nike/Jordan Michigan deal after 1 year?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The midnight mayhem that was the Nike/Jordan Launch party that took over the city was a year ago at midnight of August 1.

It's been a year with Nike. What are your thoughts on the gear and the deal?

Mine:

Gear prices have shot up but so have the quality. The uniforms are outstanding except 2/3 Hockey jerseys.

Reserving judgment until the long rumored alternates are released. This was one area where adidas was horrible. Although it seems like they were aided in their incompetence by a "master marketer" who moonlighted as an AD.

I am generally happy with Nike and the deal. While other schools have signed bigger $$ deals since then, Nike was still the right one for Michigan. It is just a better fit that Addidas/UA.

I mean I have found some neat Jordan stuff, my favorite being the Jordan basketball sweatshirt I bought last spring before the tournament, but I feel like Adidas off the field gear was more fair priced across the board. I love the Dri Fit touch shirts but 45 dollars is absurd. I still liken the idea that the adidas hate was a mix of horrible uniforms BUT ALSO the fall of the football team. Basketball fared just fine with the three stripes as equipment provider.

I don't have much to say about the merchandise since I have stopped buying new gear. But the football uniforms, mwah, I kiss my fingertips. The homes are perfect and the roads are perfect. I am completely smitten. Great job.

I think it's hilarious that people complain about the cost of the new gear, yet they bragged about how much money the Nike contract was going to pay Michigan. Where did y'all think the money was coming from? Same can be said about the big money TV contracts that everyone brags about here in one thread, then post about cutting the cord and getting Youtube TV in another.

Much of the clothing has a cool design / look, and for the most part the coloring is spot on.  The fit seems to favor a high school cross country runner, but that's ok.  I've still found things to buy.  Just wondering how long it will take MJ to have his brand on all the top programs, thus negating our ability to boast about it.

The quality is mostly an upgrade, but it still the same old designs. The gear this year with that weird bar is very disappointing, that is a no go for me. I purchased a bunch of stuff week one and have not bought anything since that time. Probably my longest stretch ever without buying Michigan gear. Also, their clothing for young kids is literally nonexistent.

I find myself buying a size up in most things and then it is just a bit too big. A normal xl shirt is like a large. The sizing is just really strange and I can't always get down to the mden to see stuff in person. Not much out there this year that I want. I still want a jersey but the price is crazy and I am terrified about the fit. I like my jersey to be big enough to wear a sweatshirt under.

The gear the athletes are wearing is far better than Adidas. For that reason I'm glad we switched. On the consumer side I'm far less than impressed but I wasn't expecting much from Nike. Their clothing for women are horrible. Over the years Nike continues to make more and more irregular fits, smaller sizes and poor quality for the price they're charging. The men's line seems to be a bit better

The jerseys are much better quality so I've actually purchased one now.  I like the sweatshirts a lot better as well.  But I am disappointed.

I find it odd that provisions weren't made for women's gear.  I realize that Jordan doesn't normally make women's gear but they did do women's jerseys.  I just think it's strange that an 11 year apparel deal was made that apparently fully plans to ignore half the fanbase.  More and more women's Nike gear was released throughout the year but this is still disappointing.

But it's the same template as every single Nike school and NFL team. Nothing unique about the Jordan stuff which I find disappointing.

I can't find a good hat that fits my oversized head. Had the same problem with Adidas though. I often wear a Purdue cap because it fits much better. Any big-headed people out there with advice to save me from this?

is the 2nd best thing to happen to this program over the past 8 years. The new uniforms look SICK, the money is being put to good use, and the national attention it's helped create with Michigan and Harbaugh is still on an upward trajectory. I don't want to imagine Michigan without Nike/Jumpman.

I don't like that gear prices have gone up so much, doesn't really seem that different to me as far as quality.  I also don't care for the jumpman on the football jerseys, seem like it should just be on BB uniforms. Really didn't care for the BB uniforms either, thought the maize looked more gold.

But, people seem to worship the Nike gear so it's all good, I just care about how the teams play and not the emblom on the jersey.

And I say this loving the improvement that it's obviously had for the team and players. Nike was by far the correct choice on that front.

But consumer-wise, I'm still disappointed. The fits are so completely wrong that it's ridiculous. I bought two of the polos, Small. The hem still goes down to my knees while having sleeves that don't even get halfway down my bicep. It's like they made a t-shirt for a t-rex, I don't know who has a body built like that. And then of course it's far too clingy and the too-short sleeves ride up and become shorter. Just awful.

I've loved it. Overall, the change is incredibly good other than some pricing and size problems. Football- Perfect Basketball- OK, they need to make the jerseys normal and not so small. Hockey- Other than the throwbacks, not good.

The quality has left me wanting for some of the Jordan Gear stuff.  I feel like some of my old Adidas gear was made better.  Style Jordan gear has Adidas beat by a mile but some of my Jordan gear has already started to come apart at the seams.

I dont like the difference in appearance between the top quality replicas they sell and the on-field product. The replica jerseys are more shaped like a t-shirt as opposed to a football jersey.
