Grant Perry returns per JH

In addition, alternate uni's coming for at least one game. Happy to see that Grant finally got a plea deal. I still think he will sit at least a game or two. Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner Harbaugh says alternate uniforms are possible this year. Thinks they'll use them at least once this year. Nick Baumgardner @nickbaumgardner Jim Harbaugh says Grant Perry is back working with the team. He'll be in fall camp. His case has not been resolved at this time.

is that there were serious consequences for your actions, and you did everything right to earn a second chance. Should have been a football player, sounds like it's a much easier path to redemption.

Perry is rock-solid at slot. He will be so thankful to be playing that his dedication will be infectious and humble. His experience will be a God-send to Speight's success and the offense's ability to move the chains. Prefer McDoom as a change of pass guy and jet sweep man as he has yet to develop the size necessary to take all the hits as a true slot, so having Perry back is a great combination.

how this shakes out legally. From the outside looking in this doesn't look good to me. Going to East Lansing iwith a fake ID to drink, getting involved in an altercation with a woman that was significant enough for someone to call the police, touching the woman inappropriately and then running from the cops is more than one mistake. I'm sure he should get a second chance, I'm much less sure it should be at Michigan. And I'm not sure a non-contributor would have been given that shot.

I agree for the most part. When we talk about a sexual assault, I always view it as "what should happen if this were your daughter." If the events occurred as they were described (non-consensual touching), I don't think he deserves to have his life ruined, but he should lose his opportunity to play football here. I believe Harbaugh would treat a non-depth-chart player the same way, though. He views contribution (and I welcome this approach) as someone who works hard in practice and responds well to coaching.

I would have preferred Perry be left out of the team until his case is heard. Yes it sounds like your typical dumb college kid stuff, but resisting arrest and obstruction are serious charges. I don't see the value in having him back with the possibility of him getting punished by the legal system looming overhead. I wish him luck and hope tis gets resolved, but given the current climate in sports I'd have hoped Harbaugh wouldn't have let a guy accused of drunkenly groping someone at a bar back on the team quite this soon.

Man you must live in a bubble. You can get resisting arrest and obstruction for just about anything. Point being you tell a cop something while he conducting his investigation he can get you for obstruction. How many times you seen 4 cops on top of 1 person saying stop resisting and the dude cannot move. From what I was told on this situation it was a bunch of BS and the ELPD got the wrong person. I just wanted to let ya know you would be amazed how easy it is to get 2 charges like that it truly does not take much.

Well, the charge was he injured the officer's hand, so this wasn't just him mouthing off.  I also recognize its existence while simultaneously pointing out that the fact Perry was underage, drunk, in another city with a fake ID, and then grabbed a woman inappropriately in line at a shitty bar and then tried to flee when the cops arrived to stop him.  So sure, maybe the "resisting arrest" part is a bit of a stretch, but the rest sure as shit are real and he probably shouldn't be on the team until they are resolved.

Well if he actually did what they said he did. The souce I know who seems pretty damn spot on so far says they had the wrong guy in the 1st place. He also told me about  2 months ago that he would be back by fall camp and he we are. From what I was told they will not drop the charges and seem to be purposely dragging out the whole thing. Not saying it's 100% but so far the info I have received on this has been spot on.

I mean, if the police are still bringing charges against the wrong guy months after the incident, then so be it.  I have my doubts.  And maybe they are dragging out the charges and all that, though again, that seems highly unlikely for a DA to waste his/her time doing so, especially on a relatively minor offense.  But Ingham County and EL are weird places, apparently.

Again, I am a fan of Michigan athletes and want them to be upstanding citizens, but I find it funny around here that if a Michigan athlete gets busted for being an idiot people rush to find nuance, but if this was happening to a player from OSU, MSU, PSU, etc., it would be all "screw this sexual offender, lock him up."

I assume Perry will plead down to community service, some education, maybe probation, and that'll be it.  It's a first offense, and being drunk and doing (relatively) minor things probably shouldn't destroy your life.  But I see no reason why Harbaugh needed to bring him back to the program in the middle of the summer before his day in court.

I am not sticking up for Perry I am simply relaying the information that was told to me. I know exactly what your talking about with people jumping all over other teams for this kind of thing. My replies have more to do with the legal system and how easy it is to get caught up in some BS. I could see the DA and the ELPD dragging this out to save face. People don't like to be wrong and it's a rivals city he was arrested in so anything can happen. If he really grabbed that girls ass I think we would be moving in the CSC direction instead of the misdemeanor offenses that are being thrown around.

Perhaps there is something in the works that disposes of his legal issue (plea deal) on the horizon and rather than him lose time getting prepared for the season everyone thinks it would be best he resume team activities. I for one am glad to know that our most reliable returning receiver is at least working with the team. With all the things going on at MSU, I don't see his situation as insurmountable. I don't think he will do any more jail time and I'm confident a program of rehabilitation is and has been in place for him to addresss his poor decision making.

If Hoke was still around he'd be off the team. I didn't like Hoke as a coach but I did like the fact that he had a "no nosense will be tolerated" policy. Him and the coach from Auburn have my respect in that regard.

if you've been following Michigan for any reasonable amount of time you'd know about sitting Touissaint for the big Alabama game. The entire game not just the 1st quarter. The Stonum incident. The Hagerup incident. The Clark incident. Need me to continue? This might have actually worked against Michigan in the fact that recruits wouldn't want to play for a tough coach that would actually sit their ass as opposed to these other coaches who will let them play.

I'm not sure why everyone is excited about this when it makes the institution look bad.  Back in December, Perry was suspended until all legalities were resolved.  It hasn't been resolved, yet he's back.  Not a good look.
