People need to understand that part of being AD is navigating the politics that come with it. Warde can't always get his way and picking and choosing battles is of utmost importance.

He's a new AD of a program that while powerful, a lot of other people don't like. He needs to gain some respect in order to be able to influence more, and that takes time. Going off on every thing (some larger or smaller than others) is using up that capital before gaining much.

In the moment, it is frustrating, but if you are wasting it all on smaller items when you're going to be left wondering what happened when you really need it in a moment.

They would have postponed the entire tournament and organized an overnight prayer vigil until Izzo made it to the arena.

There is not a chance they would have only given them an extra 20 minutes.

I would rather get to the gym and play the game right away.  I wouldn't want to sit at the stadium and I don't think I would want to go to the hotel.  Delaney sucks though.

Honest question.  How much time does the team need to get ready after arriving at the arena?  How early does the team arrive in East Lansing for a game at MSU?

There were obviously other options, principally flipping the first session games or moving the MSU/PSU game up an hour and sliding our game into the gap between sessions.  All come with logistical issues.  It would have been hard to pull the trigger on any of those until Michigan's travel plans were figured out.  And once Michigan's travel plans were established, were those other options obviously better than the plan that was seemingly in place (arrive at the arena and figure out when is an appropriate tip-off time)?  I'm not so sure.  I don't see how flipping the first session games really gains Michigan all that much.  Putting Michigan into the session gap probably allows them to go to the hotel and rest some, but that option probably had the most logistical hurdles.

I think there's a lot of anger here that is unnecessary.

is shoot-around time. Teams try to get a shoot-around the day before & day of the game. It helps the players familiarize themselves with the arena, sights, & background. Shooting percentage dramatically drops if you're on the road & don't get sufficient shoot-around time.

Being stuck in traffice doesn't help your nerve either.

Of course, and I get that.  I also don't know how much time they were planning on having.  Let's think about it.  They wouldn't have had an in-arena shoot around last night, as games were going on.  If you assume a separate shoot around was going to happen at the arena in the morning, it probably would have been split between at least three or four teams.  How much time would that really have given us?  Switching time slots wasn't going to gain us that shooting time back, as again, there would be games going on.

We got to the arena 1:40 or so (?) before ultimate tip-off.  Given the circumstances, how much more time would we really have needed?   What do we gain by switching time slots?  If anything, it seems like that would have given us less time to get acclimated on the court.

But did anyone commenting here or in the other thread find out what the players wanted?

I mean, it is entirely possible Delaney/Warde discussed and moving the game was on the table.  Warde asked Coach B who then went to the team and they said "fuck all that noise, we wanna play tomorrow at noon."

Just seems like a lot of pissed off MGoUsers and not a lot of info on what was actually happening behind the scenes.

Illinois needs a couple of wins to make the NCAA Tourney.I assume the more BIG teams in, the more $$$$ the BIG makes? Mich was never going to get a break from the BIG."Best interest of our student-athletes' is pure bull shit.

Serious question for the Warde defenders:

What has he accomplished at UM to make you believe he's ready to play in the big leagues (with guys like Delaney and Gene Smith)?

Jim can take his micro penis and shove it up his ass. I was against players getting paid but after this they deserve it. I work outside and the wind was so bad my boss told me to get out of it cause Safety comes first and we are swamped with work. Big Ten dropped the ball and put greed over safety of kids

Whatever. What's done is done. Be happy that no one on the team was injured or worse. This could've been an exponentially worse situation.

Now that that's all out of the way, let's just go win the damn thing.

But in this situation, I don't get all the hate. He can strongly ask to move the game, but if Delaney says no, he can't say "then we aren't coming" without asking the players and coaches. And I would guess that's what happened and the team said "we wanna play."  Once again, if you aren't in the room, you don't know and shouldn't draw conclusions or pre-judge.
