OT: A Humble Request on Behalf of a Little Michigan Fan

Submitted by rob f on

My oldest daughter "Mo" asked me to share this with as many friends as possible:

https://www.gofundme.com/8f-udos-surgery-fund?ssid=841824986&pos=1

Her lovable little pooch "Udo", a Mini Dachshund, suffered a serious fall earlier this week and is essentially crippled unless he has spinal surgery. With surgery, his vet says he has a 95% chance of full recovery; w/o the surgery, Mo is facing the agonizing choice of settling for either "medical management" for her little man, with a small chance of full recovery, or else euthanasia, for this little big Michigan Fan.

Please help if any of you can, Mo and her hubby just got married 2 months ago and are unable to finance the surgery alone, and dad (rob f) is pretty tapped out after paying for my little girl's wedding in October (though I have promised as much financial help as it takes to get Udo his surgery. After all, I consider the little man to be my dog, too---he lived here for 7 years, until moving out with my daughter).

Any donation, regardless of amount, would be so greatly appreciated! (BTW, I did clear my post with a mod before making this request.)

Thanks in advance, MGoFriends!

How much do you donate to these foreign refugee charities, pretentious d-bag?

I like rob f, I love pets and animals in general so I gave $30 that I worked for and earned myself. Me.

Don't tell people where money that isn't yours should go.

Can we just save these gofundme requests for human beings that are at risk of death?  That's all I'm saying.  It's a 9 year old dog that is going to be dead in a couple years.  If it was for a 9 year old kid who had an accident I'm all in but this is a little much.

Your post wasn't about whether MGoBlog is the right place for these posts. Your post was saying that gofundme's are basically a waste of time for "a dog that's going to be dead in a few years."

That's your opinion, but my opinion is that you're an insensitive prick. You don't really seem to give any thought to the idea that many people consider their dogs to be more than just pets. What right do you have to tell people how to donate their own money that they've earned? If you don't want to use your money for these causes, fine. That's your business. But don't tell us how to donate money that isn't yours.

I think if someone posts a questionable request they are fair game for both the positive and the negative responses. I'm a huge animal person and my dog is a rescue. We had some issues where we thought we were going to incur significant expenses but never dreamed of asking family let alone complete strangers for assistance. I don't have a problem with the ask, do whatever you need to do but I also don't have a problem with people voicing their distaste. If it was a close friend or family I would consider this, if it was a human I would've already donated whether I knew them or not. Don't shame people for voicing their dissent just like they're not shaming people for participating. There are plenty of people out there who will give to basically any cause, this is a great thread for them and if others feel like those people and their generosity is being taken advantage of, they're entitled to that. I applaud people who are generous or in a position to give regardless of the situation.

You're actually wrong. Dachshunds can live up to 15 or 16 years of age. Do you own a pet? If you don't, most pets are part of the family. It doesn't matter that they're an animal. I have a Dachshund as well and she means the world to me. I love her more than most people. So if you don't own a pet you may not understand what they mean to their owners. This is a life and death matter, and the OP got it cleared before posting so your insensitive opinion doesn't really mean anything.

I don't know how I feel about this post.

I too have a dog and I love him more than I could express. He's a great dog. But I'm poor as shit (almost literally) and there are a lot of things I could do with 4 thousand dollars that would make my families life a lot better. We just welcomed a new baby into the world on 12/12, is it cool if I start a gofundme and post it here and ask for 4k to pay some of the hospital bills? Where do we draw the line?

All that being said, Good Luck with the dog Rob, I hope that you find the money to help Udo, I'd want to help my dog if he was in need too.

Not judging anyone for pouring $$$ into a very sick dog (I wouldn't- I have a dog that I love dearly, but she's a dog)

Also not judging anyone for asking for other people's money for said expenses. I wouldn't have that kind of nerve, but whatever.

Also not judging anyone for donating their $ to said dog saving fund.

But there is no freaking way this belongs here. I mean seriously, people. Can I sell my car on here? What if my mom's dog needs insulin? For god's sake, this isn't Facebook, thank the lord. Can we please keep it that way?!?
