When was our last upset?

Submitted by Real and Spectacular on
Honest question. I can't think of the last time we went into a game as an underdog and came out with a win. I don't know if there's such a thing as being "due", but man does it feel like we are way beyond due at this point. Anyway, just curious if anyone knows the answer to this. I was thinking maybe one of the ND games with Denard but I wasn't even sure about that.

OSU was consensus #1 and three loss Michigan was a 20 point dog.  Brian Griese came in for injured Scott Dreisbach to lead the Wolverine squad to a 13-9 victory.

1995 three loss Michigan hosted undefeated and #1 OSU and beat them 31-23.

Prior to that, was 1993 when four loss Michigan hosted #1 OSU and beat the living shit out of them to the tune of 28-0.

I went back and looked at the past ten years, and their were some significant upsets as well as some minor upsets.

2006: At no. 2/3 Notre Dame

2007: Capital One Bowl, upset Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow's no.9 ranked Florida Gators. Probabally the biggest upset on this list.

2008: Upset then no. 9 Wisconsin. The 20 point comeback was the second largest comeback in Michigan history

2009: Upset then no. 18 Notre Dame. The game where Tate Forcier peaked.

2011: Upset then no. 17 Nebraska (we were ranked no. 20). A small "upset" but people forget that Nebraska was ranked as high as 8 that year, and we blew Nebraska out that game. Probabaly among Brady Hoke's top two coached games during his Michigan tenure.

2013: Again, "upset" then no. 14 Notre Dame (Michigan was ranked no. 17). The game where Devin Gardner peaked :(

2015: The entire year. While technically upsetting no. 22 BYU and no. 13 Northwestern (Michigan was ranked 18 for that game), I'm not sure if anyone here would consider those upsets. That being said, we were not supposed to be a ten win team that year, nor relevent.

I really thought Gardner's peak was playing the second half vs OSU that year on a broken foot. Yes, a one point loss -- but Gardner was the only reason it was that close... and I still can't get it out of my head that he should have taken that ball into the endzone himself. That last play call was utterly stupid.   They couldn't stop him  from running and borges (or hoke) decides to stop doing what's working on the play that decides the entire game.

I wish he would have gotten to play under Harbaugh instead of having his body destroyed via hoke's terrible coaching.

If Michigan wins it will be considered an upset, but it really shouldn't be. Michigan has clearly been the better team most of the year. Michigan has a much more veteran roster and Ohio State is still making rookie mistakes every week. It baffles me that Ohio State is favored this week. Ohio State still can't pass beyond 10 yards and their interior D-line has been consistently pushed around by good teams. Any pudits that think OSU is a top 4 team don't know how challenged they are on offense when they play an average or better team. Vegas has overestimated the abilities of this OSU squad all year. The line should be even.

So sick of hearing all the whiners

We beat wisconsin by 7, OSU beat them by 7.

We beat Penn State, they lost to Penn state

We beat sparty at home, OSU only avoided overtime because Dantonio is a fucking jackwad. His team was at home, had the momentum, and was winning the war in the trenches. They even fell for a Dantonio fake.

Even Hoke managed to keep most of the games close, and lost by ONE POINT  the year gardner played with a broken foot because why not do basically the same thing the seahawks did vs the pats in the superbowl.. You let devin take that ball and he would have moved a mountain to win that fucking game.

Be pragmatic all you want...  Stop with the self-pity shit over a game that hasn't even happened.  Have some faith.  ....and please stop acting like the sky is falling because okorn was lackluster...  There aren't many QB's that would have been anything but lackluster in that weather.   (CITATION: The game played in east lansing on the same day in the same conditions)
