Week 7: Best thing you saw...

Submitted by mi93 on

What nearly ended up with being the fans of the clear #2 team in the land didn't end up quite so, but a very entertaining week.

- Tennesse (and Ole Miss) finally gets the door shut on them as pretender

- NC State and Wisc nearly pulled off upsets (as did Indiana)

- Sparty goes down again

- Ohio looks mortal, as does Clemson

The best things for me this week, though, are:

- the safety by Northwestern - one of the best, cleanest hits on a QB you'll ever see, and with tremendous authority as MSU's QB was horizontal immediately after the hit - the definition of a 'de-cleater'

- this article... http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/16/sports/ncaafootball/houston-cougars-t… ... coaching, like leadership, at every level is about teaching and caring; winning is only a result, of good teaching and building believers amongst the team, the team, the team...the article struck an interesting chord with me

MSU switched QB only to find out O'Connor is the best option they have. Their RB had the most rushing yards. They found out that they don't have a QB this year and next. Their D is pathetic. MSU fans are calling out their best player - Malik. The best... ND getting gashed in the second half when the opponent didn't even have their best player, was second. OSU needing an OT to beat Wisconsin is beautiful. It is hard to see them not playing well against M in their own house, but this will be a toss up game. If Speight makes the improvement Rudock made last year, I am taking M by two scores. Best of all, there are three teams and the rest. That is what I saw. AL, M and OSU. Washington still has to prove. Everyone else is still not at that level of those three and AL is looking like the real deal.

Stats was misleading. O'Connor came in second half and threw two bombs to make that stat respectable. One of them should have been picked off. When NW is just scoring at will they had plenty of opportunities to throw the ball. Someone asked in the game thread. It looked like WAC game where neither team played defense.

MSU had some nice completions, but NU's secondary is atrocious and O'Conner has two turnovers as well.

Against a good secondary MSU is not going to have those throws. Their passing attack was feast or famine yesterday. As long as UM does not let Shelton or Corley get behind them I do not see MSU moving the ball consistently on Michigan.

After MSU fell behind by multiple scores, O'Connor just started heaving it downfield on every other play.  They had some success; they scored on TDs of 86 and 59 yards.  But it's probably not too sustainable an option against better defenses than Northwestern's.

Best thing I saw ... Standing with some friends at a bar in Grand Rapids. We are watching the Wiscy game and lightly cheering for them. My friend is wearing his Michigan hat. Then some Spartan bro walks up talking shit to him for no reason looking for a fight. We tell him to go sit down and think about Northwestern. He spends the rest of the night at the table next to us loudly cheering for Ohio St obnoxiously with his girlfriend. I guess when you only have two wins you root for Ohio St because you don't have a chance against Michigan.

David Shaw celebrating after his calling a pitch sweep with a jumbo package in a goal line situation and watching his running back giggle his way into the endzone since there was not an ND defender within about 15 yards of him.  Shaw looked like a little kid who just pulled off his first prank ever running up and down the sideline.

BTW...is it just me or did Brian Kelly look exceptionally caucasion in facial color all game long?  I was admittedly flipping from game to game, but I never did see that purple hue of his that I have come to enjoy more than a grown ass man should.  I started to think that the dude was medicated.  Either that or he has given up.

Saddest thing I saw came from the same game.  Can't help but feel sorry for the ND center.  After his missile launch of a snap to some chick in the 5th row started the floodgates of defeat for ND the broadcast kept showing closeups of the kid.  It was clear he did not want to play anymore.  I am sure coach Kelly will cheer him up.

My best/worst thing is the OSU-Wisco game. Best: OSU definitely looks beatable if you have a great defense. Worst: Come on UW, how could you blow a 16-6 lead? By not being able to cash it in for 6 when the red zone. That's how.

Apparently the average CFB offense would not score against us? I didn't even know your Defensive S&P+ could be 0.

Saw a new Michigan Tom Brady jersey at the Las Vegas Nike Store this weekend.

http://store.nike.com/us/en_us/pd/player-michigan-brady-mens-football-j…

Lots of Maize and Blue in Vegas in general but was pretty cool to see the new jersey since #10 is now an option as opposed to just #1 and #4.

My size was sold out so I had to order from Nike.com but figured others here might also be interested since it only seems to be sold through Nike.
