Injury Timelines (Positive News)

Lorenz on 247 said that essentially if Taco is out more than a week it'll be purely precautionary. All around good injury news.

But anyone know what the actual injuries are for Mone and Charlton? I figured I'd respond to the first post so it can be towards the top of the thread.

I love your info! Especially when it's all good news!
Thanks!

Penn State is not a world beating team but we don't have enough of a sample size from this team to be declaring that we won't "need" two starting defensive lineman for that game. They have talent on that team.

By someone who lets talent go to waste.

PJ Fleck is looking pretty solid now eh?? Just kidding, giving you a hard time.
Yeah I dunno about them. They have been 30-24 since 2011, basically the poster child for average. If Michigan can beat them on the road in a somewhat comfortable fashion last year, I don't really see the massive threat with an improved Michigan team at home and PSU traveling for their first Big 10 road game.

issue is that many people on this blog have never seen "success" at the level that we are primed to have it, and don't understand that you still lose games even when you are a really high caliber team. There is going to be a big target on our back going forward. To say we should beat Penn State(true) is not the same as saying we don't "need" two of our best players on the field against them. If they are hurt and they can't go, so beat it, but after next week we need all hands on deck for the forseeable future after that. We do not have elite depth at this point to have such a luxury.

The D line was where they had the most depth, and is supposed to be one of the strongest in the entire country?

have more depth than we had but we don't have Alabama/FSU/OSU depth. Not yet. It looks to us like we do because we have had basically 4 warm bodies on the D-line in all years between 2011 and 2015, but we are down two players right now and really have about 5 left that would be solid contributors. It's not particularly a problem yet but it is not truly elite depth.
September 6th, 2016 at 10:57 AM ^
I just don't see Penn State, even with Michigan short 2, 3 guys on the D-line being good enough to win this football game. I have confidence in the backups and the rotation that Don Brown would implement to make it work.
And you can't really compare PSU to Indiana (Bismol). Indiana has this ridiculous offense that keeps teams off their flow. Penn State, even if it's faster this year, runs a methodical offense. As long as Franklin is at the helm, that team just doesn't scare me as a fan.

Michigan will face up to that point in the season. Certainly, Michigan can't look past them and the starters will have to work harder than the previous 3 games. But, I still see us winning by at least 3 TD's.
September 6th, 2016 at 11:21 AM ^
But we've seen first-hand how it works when you take a traditional power offense and turn them into spread overnight. There are always MASSIVE growing pains. I did not know they switched their entire scheme over, I apologize for that.
September 6th, 2016 at 11:44 AM ^
And I agree. We saw how that works. To their credit, their QB McSorley is a dual-threat guy, so they've at least been recruiting to run this type of offense, which Michigan definitely did not. I still think there are bumps in that road, and we get them early enough to take advantage. Their lines are their weak spot, which is why I'm not afraid. But it's Penn State. They recruit the crap out of Pennsylvania and have plenty of athletes. My general point is that this forum seems to be lumping them in with Rutgers and the like, which I feel is vastly underrating their talent.
I feel like we beat them comfortably last year in Happy Valley, but it was a 1-score game mid-way through the 4th quarter. And they were an offensive disaster. Any upgrade there and I'm at least paying attention.

Injuries were really the only negative from the game.

would be nice to have the whole cast and crew back by Wisconsin at the latest. It is very, very important that Gasglow stays healthy now.
September 6th, 2016 at 9:57 AM ^
They did everything in their power to lose that game. Houston does not look to be much of a QB threat. Corey Clement did OK. I still don't think they are all that special.
It was a couple of rusty teams without any form of solid offense trying to let the other team win. I see Michigan's D just completely swarming and shutting down the Wisconsin O.

Reminds me a lot of when Rich Rod somehow managed to beat Wisconsin at home in his first season. It did a ton to temporarily mask how bad Michigan was.
Not saying Wisconsin is that level of crappiness, but I'm really hesitant about crowning them the dark horse this season.

which was that they did a good job on Fournette (relatively, until that long run), the best RB in the country, and LSU has a strong line I believe too. That tells me running room should be tight for us. Though hopefully our passing game will be far better than LSU's

(i'm sure the first round part is but that doesn't necessarily equal a "trash" line) but the fact remains he has had great success against good teams not named Alabama.
September 6th, 2016 at 12:33 PM ^
Do you feel like Les is being passed by the game? I think too often coaches at big schools with big time recruits and loads of success get complacent. Les is no spring chicken, so i wonder if he isn't able to keep up with the rigors of the game? Seems last few years LSU has been there, but not BEEN THERE.
Maybe the constant Fire talk has finally wore him down and it is bleeding over to the team.
September 6th, 2016 at 10:34 AM ^
Remember 2 years ago when Joel Stave forgot how to throw, and they had to find a QB to sub in for him for a while while he figured it out?
Houston did not win that competition. The guy who beat him for the spot was moved to safety (and occasional wildcat QB) after that year (and actually made the Seahawks roster this year as a WR). Houston is not a good QB. They're an injury or two on the OL from being pretty much DOA on offense.

Sucks they're hurt but glad it's not season ending. Silver lining in it is Gary will be getting a lot more playing time than he would otherwise, which will bode well come later in the season.

not tell during that game whether Wisconsin was any good or if LSU simply does not play for Miles anymore. There were some serious effort lapses with LSU. In an opener! At Lambeau Field! That does not bode well for that program going forward with Miles.

About that. As I said above, it was a couple of offenses that struggled to establish any type of rhythm.
I don't think LSU is very good. They'll get popped another 3, 4 times this season.

somebody please tell me what possible benefit LSU gets from doing their "straight pitch" dive plays? If you are running a sweep or some else to the outside a pitch makes all of the sense in the world, but what possible benefit is derived from turning a straight hand-off up the middle into a "mini-pitch" where the running back gets the ball at the exact same place at the exact same time as he otherwise would? Why make that any more complicated than it is? That is a really odd play and from what I have seen LSU is the only team that runs that does that garbage (and it never, ever works).

stand corrected. (Partially, I still have not seen it really work).
