says that beilein has left players with 2 fouls in the game for a total of 88 minutes of first-half play in the last seven seasons. i can't honestly say i can remember too many of them.

Dawkins played with 2 at the end of the first half against PSU in NY last year. I think 2 other wing players (maybe Robinson and Irvin) were already on the bench with 2 each...

EDIT: Now I see that there is a full list with the link, and that Tubby Smith and Fran McCaffery supposedly use autobench even more rigidly than Beilein.

Also of note: Izzo at #294, and Archie Miller (Dayton) at #304, so it's not as if Beilein is on his own here among other very good coaches.
are penalized by it more as they foul much less, than at least Izzo teams. In other words, witht he way Izzo teams play defense I can see the rationale for the auto bench more than I can with Belein teams.

Izzo's style of play leads to many more autobenches that Beilein's, so his teams are affected by it more.
Greg Marshall is actually below Beilein at #311, although given the more aggressive style of D Wichita State plays, it makes more sense for Marshall to institute that policy.

Would love to see a post that details effect on winning percentage of removing starters with 2 fouls. It would have to be correlated to the importance of the player, etc.. Seth to the rescue?
I'm not a fan of rigid adherence, but I suspect one reason behind the autobench policy is to discourage players from picking up that 2nd foul in the 1st half. I'm not sure how you'd analyze the indirect effect autobench has on discouraging fouls.
Even a static analysis would seem to be very difficult, but then again, I'm not a statistician.
Noticed that Scott Nagy has taken Billy Donlon's place in the data for Wright State. Is that 11.5% actually Donlon's?
