OT: First Album You Ever Bought With Your Own Money
So, what was your first album you ever bought with cash you earned all by yourself? Mine was Led Zeppelin's first album. I bought it at a local record store when I was 15 years old and had my first job. My dad always talked about how great they were, so I found out myself. As it turns out, my dad was right, and I love to get the led out to this day.
Anthrax - State of Euphoria

By late 1962, all of the music I owned was on 45s (most of which disappeared after I went away to college and forgot to bring the 45s with me); but this was the fastest selling record in the history of the record industry after it was released in November 1962, and I had to buy it.
Just one year later, the album didn't seem very funny. After November 22, 1963, I don't think that I ever played it again.

My parents got a copy and there was much hilarity around the house when they played it. Just like with your experience, after Dallas it wasn't funny any more.

As Lenny Bruce so eloquently stated after JFK was assassinated, "Man is Vaughn Meader fucked!" Vaughn's career and whole life tailspun after November 22, 1963.

many of the best album covers were by Roger Dean. Dean did the album art for most of the albums by Uriah Heep, Yes, and Asia (besides many of the solo works by musicians from those groups), but also did album covers for numerous other artists.
My favorite Roger Dean album covers? Tough choice, with so many good ones, but Uriah Heep "Magician's Birthday" and Yes "Tales From Topographic Oceans"(double album=2x the artwork!) are my favorites.
Almost caught a buzz just thinking about them.
Talked my mom into letting me into the Columbia House Record club when I was about half my current height. This is the album I slipped in amongst 7 other innocuous albums you'd get for that first penny. We only had one record player in the entire house, right in the living room. Needless to say, It took about three tracks before it was confiscated. Got my hands back on it about four years later...

Ice Cubes AmeriKKKas Most Wanted. I was about 11 and had to have my mom with me to buy it.
It's funny because I'm all about the indie punk scene but I still have a soft spot in my heart for hardcore rap music.

The Cowsills - All Time Hits
Just hearing that name reminded me of how old the younger posters on this site are becoming. Cowsills did Indian Lake, right?
Yes, The Cowsills. It was around 1970, I was not quite 10. There became a time I was embarrassed that it was in my collection, but I am over that now. Indian Lake, Hair, Rain, Park and Other Things.

I bought it at an appliance store in Grand Haven. It was similar to the Patterson's Appliance store in the movie 'That Thing You Do'.
The first 45 I bought was the Beatles Rain/Paperback Writer. I still have both of them. I wonder how many folks here ever bought a 45?

I know vinyl is back but I did not know 45s were part of the revival. Thanks for bringing me into the 21st century. Plus one to you.
