Glasow Combine Results

Submitted by michclub19 on

Offensive Lineman testing at the combine today and Graham Glasgow turning in some solid results.  Ran a 5.13 40 which is one of the better times posted.  Also put in 23 reps on the bench which skimming through the results appears to be right around the average.  Don't see any reason this should hurt his projected 2-4 round projections.

His measurables yesterday were 6'6", 307 lbs.

Some of the top times, for the board's information:

1) Jason Spriggs, Indiana - 4.94

2) Joe Thuney, NC State, - 4.95

3) Caleb Benenuch, UCLA - 4.98

4) Jack Conklin, Mich. St. - 5.00

5) Jake Brendel, UCLA - 5.01

Graham Glasgow was in the top 10 at #8 among the best times. Solid indeed.

Indiana's Jason Spriggs has got to be one of the top performers of the day.  31 reps, sub-5.0, as you said and putting up among the best numbers in broad jump.  Would not mind one bit if the Packers grabbed him late in the first round to protect Rodgers.

Most places I looked at had him between the 4-7th for his position which projected late first into the 2nd round.  Tackle rankings typically looked like:

Tunsil
Stanley
Conklin
Decker
Clark
Spriggs
Ifedi

You can move any of those guys up/down two spots but before today this is what I was seeing.  I think Spriggs is a mid-first round talent which is why I'd love for the Packers to get him at 27

You have to consider that this is just one year's worth of churn-and-burn recruits for the NFL.  The regulars are a spread-out mix of a decade's worth of Combines.  Being in the Top 10 in anything at the Combine isn't particularly impressive to the guys he'll be working to replace.

Athletically, Glasgow is "average" by NFL standards.  To be clear, that makes him one of the top athletes in the world.  As for his employment prospects, it's certainly not a bad thing.  The biggest worry -- especially if you're a former walk-on -- is whether or not you flat-out lack the athleticism to make it in the NFL.  If you're "average", great, you've cleared that hurdle, and frankly it's not like he needs to do much better.  Having great Combine results would raise his draft stock but doesn't say much about his chances of sticking around.  From there it comes down to his ability, versatility and consistency, and there's where he's arguably as good as any of the guys he's competing with for a job (tho I admit I'm biased).

So he projects to be. . . a mid-round pick with potential to be a rotation starter, which is pretty much where everyone expected him to wind up all along.

At my max as a 19 year old, I could do 225 4 times.

I thought I was a god. I cannot even imagine what a real weight-lifting program is like.

Those people are just freaks.

These numbers shouldn't hurt him, but they won't help him. 23 is a little on the low side for an guard, but not enough to hurt him.

Better indicator is broad jump, in my opinion. He has the 14th best in that right now.

Yeah yeah combine data helps but these teams are going scour these kids' game tape and see how they compete. That should help him along with what Jim has to say.

While none of these drills are end-all, be-all, broad jump shows off lower body explosive strength. The broad jump is similar strength (and doesn't include enduracne as the bench drill does) that is applied with the lower legs when blocking. Bench press isn't unimportant (though the number of reps becomes enduranced based rather than straight strength based), but with the upper body you are essentially bench pressing players when you block them.

So both tests help scouts, they aren't doing them for no reason*

We need more freakish/gym rat types on our OLine a la David Molk and his 41 reps. (Something tells me Onwenu and Bredeson will be freaks). Really hoping Cole hits the weights hard this offseason considering he looks to be the projected starter at center.

Really happy for Glasgow.  I think he'll make a solid NFL player as long as he gets those funky presnap penalties fixed.  Not sure if he's projected at center or guard in the NFL, and still not sure why/what he did to get so many penalties this year (or was that just me remembering it being an overly noticeable trend.  i.e. selective memory)

Guy did amazing job organizing the line pre-snap, and  was really good at get getting to the second level to get a block on the LB.  I don't  think he has any issue making an NFL roster, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him start depending on where he lands.
