Any team that lost to Northwestern certainly does not deserve to be in the playoffs.

Yes you are correct, but that's only because they've already played the games and you know the result. It was not so self-obvious before then.
That's why you need an 8 team playoff - the 5 P5 Champions, the best Group of 5 team for political correctness reasons, and 2 at-larges.

They only go once in a blue moon and because of that they get themselves all geeked up and then freak out when the first thing goes wrong. Then they collapse.
They care too much.

They may have been asking the same question when Michigan played OSU. Some days the stars don't align in your favor.
The performances by Iowa, NW and MSU sure aren't doing much for the Big Ten's rep.

I don't know if they really shit the bed as much as I think MSU just isn't that good. They were unbelievably lucky all season and it finally ran out. No way were they really one of the four best teams in the country.

I don't know, but it would be nice if they could at least get in field goal range. I want State to be the only team to get shut out all bowl season.
January 1st, 2016 at 7:27 PM ^
As weak as MSU's schedule was Iowa's was even weaker. I've thought it all season that both teams have been highly overrated all year and their bowl performances or lack of pretty much proves that they are overrated.

I guess what I should have said is that of the three teams MSU played one beat them, one lost by an act of the football gods, and the other lost because their OC lost his mind and stopped handing the ball to Elliot.
My point is Iowa and MSU are way overrated.

They're bombing for sure. But cut them some slack. These bowls are all travel games for midwestern teams and sometimes they just show up flat.

True. Next year we go to iowa City in November and we'll be nervous as hell about it. We won't be facing the same disoriented Iowa team we are seeing today. It will be a totally different animal in the regular season at home.

May seem counterintuitive but sometimes that can be worse than getting there a day or two before. Travel and being away from home affects people differently.
The BIG has been dealing with this built-in disadvantage in bowl games forever and it makes what Michigan did today that much more impressive. This game was in Florida's backyard.

It was more of an issue in the 70s and 80s when the Big Ten was an AstroTurf conference and thus always had to deal with a totally different surface. But there's not as big a difference between synthetics and the real thing. The crowd yesterday was majority Hawkeyes. And it's not like you have to deal with altitude or a late West Coast starting time. They just got smoked.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2015 Big Ten division champions: MSU and Iowa.
Ouch.
January 1st, 2016 at 7:39 PM ^
I think everyone knows that the power lies with Michigan and Ohio State. Regardless of who lucked into the Big Ten Championship game.
The results on the field certainly proved it.
January 1st, 2016 at 7:36 PM ^
Mildly amazed that Iowa didn't punt from the 23 there.

Could you imagine if Iowa had beaten MSU and been placed in the playoff against Alabama?
January 1st, 2016 at 8:25 PM ^
They might have gotten blown out 38-0. That would have sucked.
Oh, wait . . .

Whoever is yelling behind McCaffrey during this post-game interview is the most annoying person in the world. Screaming "HEISMAN" while the kid is trying to conduct an interview isn't proving a point.
