Saturday Night Drinking, Sports, Best Christmas Present Ever Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

It is a pretty good Saturday night for sports right now, with a decent IU v Duke football game on and Nebraska v. UCLA coming on later.  Additionally, both the Wings and the Pistons will be on the tele tonight and our house still has television for another couple of weeks so I will probably watch some of all of these games.

EDIT:  Oops, forgot NFL game, Wash v. Philly

Also, a question for the board:   What is/was the best or most memorable Christmas gift you ever got, even if it was when you were a youngster?

I hope you are still with loved ones and coming out of your food-coma from yesterday's dinner.   Merry-day-after-Christmas and Happy New Year.

XM

UPDATE:  IU lost a heartbreaker, Pistons lost, Wings won 3-2, Nebraska looking good v. UCLA, tied at the 1/2 despite a couple of total horse scat calls, and Wash lost points due to their sparty QB, Cousins.

was one I received when I must have been about 7 yrs old or so:  an Erector Set.

It wasn't until a few years later that I found out a totally different connotation to that word.

My favorite Christmas present ever was the year the Nintendo came out and I got one for Christmas and it isn't even close. I was like 13 so just at the right age and I still look back on that Christmas with fondness.

My brother and I got Tecmo Super Bowl for Christmas too. Probalby the same year as you did. I hounded and hounded my mom for Tecmo Bowl, and when I unwrapped the the paper and saw Super Tec, I was a little disappointed, and thought my mom got the wrong game.

She told me that the guy at the store told her that this was leaps and bounds better than Tecmo Bowl (which it is), and that it had all 28 NFL teams. The Super Tec battles me, my brother, my cousins and uncles had that Christmas afternoon all the way into the wee hours of the 26th will stay with me forever. Still one of my all time favorite games.

I have a 7 month old. Being the first baby on either side of the family in 15 years, she got every toy this year.  All the toys, literally. And the books. Seriously, Dave Brandon will retire rich now thanks to my family. (Sorry.)

Also, it must suck to live somewhere that TV just disappears in January. Really roughin' it!

it must be the holiday season.  TV doesn't just 'disappear' like they might in your country.   its that for the last decade we unplug it and it stays that way until football season rolls around again in the fall.

and congrats on the 7 month old.   time for another....

from the Lord.   Happy is the man whose quiver is full, he shall not be afraid, but shall speak with the enemies (read: ohio) at the gate.

the corollary is that debt is a curse.  maybe if we weren't so quick to apply for debt and instead looked to be blessed, we might be better off.

we keep track of the tigers via the newspaper and sometimes on 'gamecast' via espn.  that suffices.

you pay for cable the rest of the year? So, every year at football season you "get TV," and then you have it disconnected? Do you have to return the TV stuff or do you just will the TV to work until the end of the season.

so when we turn it 'off', that means no payments.   we do own the box though, i think it cost me ~$150 years ago, but i made that back in 2 months of not having to make payments.

actually had a glass of red, merlot to be exact.   the grapes were grown at a business partner's farm and he has them bottle some of it for him to give out as gifts.   pretty good stuff.

have thought of growing some grapes at the farm.  we have the right soil and sun exposure, but we are elevated and miles from the lake so our temperature wouldn't be as moderate, higher highs and lower lows.  plus, to really do it right takes time to tend to the vines and we are more of a livestock and row crop farm and that takes up enough time as it is.

Drinking Guennis Blonde (don't waste your time, it's extremely uninspiring). Watching Indiana in OT, best Christmas present was my wife ordering stationary cards with my name embossed on them.

Haven't started drinking yet but some Bulleit is in my future.

Best ever present was probably the original Nintendo I got when I was 6...still have it and it still works.
