What's your favorite Little Brown Jug Moment

Submitted by M Gulo Gulo on

As the annual battle for the Little Brown Jug renews this Saturday I thought it would be interesting to see what everyones favorite game and or memory is from the rivarly with the Finest Piece of Football Crockery in America!

My personal fav in my lifetime is the 2003 game what a come back!

I look forward to the jugs return to its home in Schembechler Hall

I thought we had no chance to win, but ended up playing the best game of the year with Nick Sheridan leading the way. It was also our final game at the Metrodome and the win helped keep our perfect record at the place.

Not really sure since winning the jug has always felt like a foregone conclusion in this rivalry. I mean hell, even the '08 team put a whoopin' on Minnesota to keep the jug.

I will that say my favorite memory will probably be this Saturday when the team grinds Minnesota into a fine powder and takes back what is rightfully theirs. This team got outplayed and embarrassed by Minnesota last year. By Minne-freaking-sota. They won't forget that.

For the sheer thrill, I would probable have to go with 2003 as well. I still remember sitting there in my apartment at the time feeling like I probably should have done something other than make my then-fiancee sit at home on a Friday evening and watch that game. Then, of course, we come alive - Perry scores, Jacob Stewart takes an INT back for a TD, Braylon scores, Perry scores again....Rivas punctuates it with an FG at 0:40 or something like that. Yeah, after that, I then felt like going out and celebrating.

Prolly on the train ride back from the 03 game when Fielding remembered he'd left the damn thing back in Minnesota.  I think we were just outside of Chicago and he got madder than an wet hen!  And then when Curtis got wind of it he ribbed Fielding the rest of the trip which made him even madder!  Oh the highjinks we had ribbing old Fielding on that one.

Land o Goshen those are good memories.

Just moved up here and was with the wife.

We were getting some wicked harassment from a couple of drunk gophers.  About halftime, I had enough and got in their face and was nearly thrown out.  To my great appreciation, the rest of the fans, almost all Gopher fans, correctly identified the other guy as the asshole that needed to discuss somethings with security.

After that, I really enjoyed the comeback, but had no urge to gloat more than a knowing smile on the way out of the stadium.  Except to that one guy. . .  I may have made some comment to him on the way out.

2003 is far an away the top highlight; Minnesota just hasn't been competitive enough for there to be many more.

In fairness, though, 2004 was actually a very good game as well; they were actually ranked one spot above Michigan in the polls at the time. Michigan was a bit less incompetent at defending Minnie's zone running, but Minnesota still ran well, and Michigan needed a 31-hard TD pass from Henne to Ecker with 1:31 to go to win.

I just happened to be in Vegas for that game in 2003. We were watching on the big screen at one of the casinos on the strip. I remember being so frustrated during the first half that during halftime I bet a lot of money on Michigan to outscore Minnesota in the second half. I didn't know if we were going to win, but I definitely knew that we weren’t going to be outscored. THAT was a great night!

The Buffalo Stampede and the huge comeback in 2003 was fantastic.  And wasn't the game on Halloween?

I seem to recall a game when I was an undergrad and Wheatley was our RB.  I think it was 1992.  He was spectactular.  My foggy memory seems to suggest that every time he went off-tackle he got 10+ yards.  And I think he had a TD run where he hurdled a tackler that had been blocked to the ground and ripped off a long TD.  But what made this memorable was reading the post-game quotes in the Daily on Monday.  I think Glenn Mason was quoted as saying he wanted to see if Wheatley had an "S" on his chest instead of a "6" or something like that.

The results from the three Wheatley years while I was an undergrad: (some serious curb stomping)

1991   Minneapolis, MN      Michigan 52–6
1992   Ann Arbor, MI            Michigan 63–13
1993   Minneapolis, MN      Michigan 58–7

2003 or 2004. Was at my grandmas for the 2003 game and we turned it off when it got to 28-7. Turned it back on when it was tied.

2004 was there. Go ahead TD to Ecker late.

2005...first loss I ever saw at Michigan Stadium...that was brutal.

Being from South Dakota, my first ever Michigan game was 2006 in the MetroDome. I was 9 at the time, and I remember Mike Hart went on a tear. He ended with like 200 yards, Chad Henne played a great game, we had Manningham, Breaston, Jake Long. I'll be going back to Minneapolis this weekend for the game, and I'm expecting an even better showing from Mich. Hopefully Rudock can gain some confidence on a poor Minnesota secondary.

Will JH bring out the old transcontinental Saturday. I see a throw back to Jake from peppers. I mean who's going to be worried about our qb if jabrill has the ball

I've only been to a few Little Brown Jug Games but my favorite moment (since these games are somehow snoozefest in the student section compared to otehr games) was weirdly last year becase it was homecoming and after losing. I frustratedly yelled "Now we can't beat Minny?!?!? What the.fuck is happening" and a group of Minnesota fans walked up to me and asked said "I was wondering the same thing" funniest moment I've had with opposing fans

It was 1978, give or take, and the Michigan cheerleaders gave Goldy the Gopher the goal post treatment. Poor Goldy had to be helped off the field. I don't think they do that to visiting mascots anymore.

...in the 1964 Homecoming Game to preserve the win 19-12 and bring the Jug back home after four straight losses in the series ( three by shutout!)

After jumping out to a 19-0 lead, the defense thwarted two Minnesota 2-point conversion attempts in the fourth quarter and then stopped a late Gopher drive at the 3-yd line to perserve the win.
