Chicagoland MGoMeetup/Watch Party for MSU game (& Cubs!)
Hello to all Chicago area MGoBloggers. I am hosting a watch party for the MSU game with some friends of mine, and I wanted to extend an open invitation to those that may not have seen it discussed in this thread here on the boards a few weeks ago (LINK). I do not want to publish my address in a public forum so if you are interested in coming, you can either reach out to me on Twitter (@MikeCohodes) or on gmail[email protected] I live in Gilberts, which is a burb out northwest, about 15 miles west of Schaumburg off of I-90. Significant others and or kids are welcome. Please reach out to me if you are interested in coming and I'll give you my address. I already had an RSVP yes from Bronco648 and interest from StephenRKass (though Stephen you still need to email me for the address).
If you come, you'll be able to watch the game in HD on this (for size comparison my son is 40" tall):
EDIT: Depending on the start time for Game 1 of the NLCS, the party might be extended to include watching that game as well. We do have plans late Saturday night though, so it all depends on the start time. Might also be able to figure out the Picture in Picture mode also and do both at once if there's overlap. Go Cubs!

If we come, do we get to yell at your son "DOWN IN FRONT!!"?
October 13th, 2015 at 11:21 AM ^
He's well trained, normally he stays out of the way. I had to bribe him with a piece of candy to get him to stand there for that picture.
October 13th, 2015 at 12:23 PM ^
Wow (assuming he's your avatar) he's gotten so big so fast.
October 13th, 2015 at 1:29 PM ^
he'll be 4 this December. its amazing how fast the time goes once you have kids. at least he'll be growing up in a world where Michigan is good again.
October 13th, 2015 at 1:17 PM ^
I'll be bringing apple pie, for dessert. That should keep him out of the line-of-sight. =) Just me & Mike (and maybe SRK)? Cumong Chicago!
October 13th, 2015 at 1:51 PM ^
Got an RSVP from a mgoreader who doesnt have an account on the mgoboards, plus about a half dozen of my non mgoblog friends are coming (including one outnumbered sparty)
EDIT - and another RSVP just now on Twitter.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:29 PM ^
I am the un-named mgolurker who finally made an account after reading the blog since 2007. So get to watch the game with other UM fans and guilted into finally logging in. Its a good day.
October 13th, 2015 at 5:00 PM ^
but please be advised Cohodes is quite obviously gonna be showing his DVR'd collection of Chicago Cubs highlights.
What you see on the screen in the OP is what you get, because, as we all know, the Cubs have no prior highlights in all the days since video/film/moving pictures were invented.
:::ducks and runs:::
October 13th, 2015 at 6:10 PM ^
Since I'm from Pittsburgh I'll have to make sure to skip that part of the watching. Cubs highlights. Hmmm So I should have time to go get a new beer from the fridge, barely.
Kidding. I've adopted the Cubs as my Chicago team.
October 14th, 2015 at 9:17 AM ^
Although the time hasn't been announced yet, the Cubs will also be playing on Saturday. Depending on when the game starts for that, we might either extend the party to cover that game also, or do a picture in picture thing to show both at the same time. That is TBD though, because we do have plans late Saturday night, so its not set in stone yet.

If we win out, I'll probably be doing a big party again for the OSU game and any potential conference championship game & whatever bowl game we go to.

Section 8 or 9, or 7, I never remember where the Wife's family's seats are, Row 33.
Have a great time!

SO wish I could make it, but family stuff takes precedence (oh, I'll still be watching the game, just with non-Michigan related people over).

How did your son get in the Pirate's bullpen?
October 13th, 2015 at 11:52 AM ^
Hard work, and a 94-mph cutter.

I hadn't heard of it til I moved there either. Its directly west of Sleepy Hollow, north of Elgin. Basically, from Chicago take I-90 west to Randall Road, exit north & go about 2 miles to Higgins Road (72) and then go west on Higgins 2 miles and you're there. So, its only 4 miles off the tollway which is convenient.

I wish I still lived in Chicagoland so that I could take it in! I love the Michigan community. I'm out in the Bay Area now, and it's pretty difficult to find good places to watch Michigan in San Jose.

Surprised to see how many MGoBloggers are in the area. I lived just off Randall Road and County Line in HS, went to Jacobs and worked in the Potbelly at that corner as well.
Speaking of Jacobs, M signed High School Heisman winner Lauren Van Vlierbergen out of Jacobs. She's now a freshman competing in XC and Track.

I remember her competing in IL XC and Track. Very good runner. Glad she's with us!
October 13th, 2015 at 1:57 PM ^
I got to run with* Evan Jager for two years in my time there. It's crazy to see him being such a big deal, but nobody is particularly surprised. Great guy and extremely hard worker.
*Wear the same uniform as. Especially his senior year, nobody was running "with" him.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:55 PM ^
Ha...you're right. Nobody from any team was running with Evan.
Like you, I've enjoyed watching him compete at the highest level (Worlds, Olympics) in Track & Field.
Kind of interesting that two of our best Steeplechase athletes, Evan (Algonquin) and Dan Huling (Geneva, grew up fairly close together.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:11 PM ^
A little further away than Geneva, but he and Evan have been friends dating back to high school at least.
The Diamond League race in Paris and then the World's final heat were both tough to stomach. Hopefully Rio ends on a different note, because he definitely has gold medal ability.
October 14th, 2015 at 12:12 PM ^
Chris Derrick from down the road in Naperville and yes he's a beast as well.
Looking forward to Rio. Pulling for them all the way.

Hey Mike. Thanks for the invite to Chicago area MGoBloggers. Awesome of you!
I believe I'll make it but will send you an email.
Not too far from Gilberts as I'm in St. Charles. Always ran the Cross Country Challenge 8K in Gilberts every December. Shame that they moved it to a less desireable course.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:07 PM ^
We will be there in spirit. We'll be at the Big House.
But you are awesome for hosting the Chicago-based MGoBloggers.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:27 PM ^
I'm in a north suburb myself...let me think on this for a sec.

Dang, a lot of you out that way. I'm out in Long Grove, which is southern Lake County, I guess. If I can convince the family to make it out there, at least there is always the Huntley outlets nearby to keep the wife occupied during the game. Don't tell her I said that ;)
October 14th, 2015 at 9:14 AM ^
There's a back road shortcut that brings you right to those outlets, its about 3 miles or so. The mall isn't that good though, there's a number of vacancies at the moment.

Don't forget Algonquin Commons down the road!

Will there be Punch and Pie?
October 14th, 2015 at 10:36 AM ^
but there will be snacks and beer and pizza. I think Bronco is bringing an apple pie.
October 14th, 2015 at 10:42 AM ^
Pie for sure, you (NFG) are responsible for Punch. Thanks for volunteering!
October 14th, 2015 at 10:23 AM ^

October 14th, 2015 at 10:35 AM ^

October 14th, 2015 at 10:43 AM ^

We pretty much hung out inside Crisler until the last minute, we got to our seats just in time for "Band, take the field." My wife is from the Philippines, she can't handle anything below 60 without a heavy jacket, and that day was a very cold one. Next time I'm up there for a game for sure tho I'll drop by!
October 14th, 2015 at 12:18 PM ^
Mike, I'd love to come, but I am watching with another alum in Wheaton (who is not doing well and needs some cheering up). I'm a bit bummed, but that's life. Looking at the calendar, I'd love to meet up either for either Nov. 14 (Indiana), Nov. 28 (OSU) or Dec. 5 (Big 10 Championship, assuming Michigan is in the game). I'll be out of town Nov. 7 & 21, and Oct. 31 prob. isn't good for obv. reasons. If none of those dates work, I'd love to get together for Michigan basketball or for a game next Fall.
