The halltime show was very interesting, different and enjoyable. I often casually watch halftime shows but this one I really paid attention to because of its uniqueness. The crowd response was one of sincere enthusiasm which was not surprising from those of us up there in years, but the younger set seemed to like it also.
The Michigan difference....this is not something one would experience at many other universities.
Was there some connection between the conductor and/or the NY Philharmonic to Michigan?

The New York Philharmonic and UMS created a residency program that brought the orchestra here the past week, and they're going to return in the 2017-18 and 2019-20 seasons. The musicians did master classes with SMTD students and gave a number of full and small ensemble performances.
As far as the NY Phil brass goes, one of the trombones is a Michigan alumnus. Two of their trumpets are Northwestern alumni...

They sounded great! I got chills when they kicked in for Verdi's Requiem.
I was in the Alumni Band, and it was a total thrill to be a small part of that performance.

What others have said ... I thought it was great and would like to see something similar more often.

It was excellent. For the first time in quite a while, everyone was focused on the band(s). They sounded great...it was really cool.

The people behind me were complaining that there wasn't pop music to entertain their two 5-7-year-old children. I gave them the ol' "real world downvote" (I glared at them).

You know UM is a world class institution but moments like this reaffirm it. I will never forget that show. Bravo UM and NY Philharmonic!
