MSU: Latest they'll wait to announce kick?

Submitted by kawter on
Seems like there may be some kind of battle between the TV folks and the people that want to protect our humanity by not having STAEE burning our couches after the game..

That said.. Does anyone know if there is a required timeframe to announce a kick? I'm looking to book travel and may fly back night of the game if possible, but if I keep waiting airfare will skyrocket soon.

Any thoughts on game time? Any insight into when they have to make a decision? (Or when to expect one?)

I answered...

The thousands who attend and much of the college football nation who watch on TV...lots of people care.

Sorry if that busts your bubble. But if you haven't noticed, it's a very popular show and part of college football Saturday.

...should've raised your hand.

I'm actually curious about this because this isn't the first time I've seen this on here. I remember 2010 #17 vs 18 UM vs MSU and the streets of Ann Arbor were blackout city with drunk people. That was a 330 start though. What 5pm start don't I remember?

Penn State v Ohio State is scheduled for 8 pm on ABC or ESPN,  M/MSU will not be a night game as Hackett said months ago.   Also that night is USC at ND on NBC.   ABC/ESPN is not going to put a 3rd Midwest game of interest on at the same time slot.  Night game is out.

Its going to be Noon or 3:30

other B1G games that day

Iowa at NW --Noon

Purdue at Wisconsin-- Noon

Rutgers at Indiana  3:30

These games have time slots but no station as of now.

Michigan St at Michigan

Nebraska at Minnesota

These games have no time slot.

I guarantee you Rutgers/Indiana is not getting the 3:30 ABC slot, which means that game is getting the 3:30 BTN slot.

This leaves ABC the Minn/Neb or M/MSU game for 3:30 (unless they move potential unbeaten Iowa v potential unbeaten NW to 3:30)

Minn/Neb has severly less appeal as a national game right now, so ABC will choose Michigan/MSU for 3:30, unless they move the Iowa/NW game which I doubt

for the picking. I can only hope 1. Rutgers doesn't knock them off. 2. The voters keep them at #2 untill they get to AA. They can't get out of their own way... Please voters let UM knock them out of #2 then there will be no damn doubt that this peticular MSU team is OVER RATED ( the chant I am looking forward to scream) and barely making a case for the top 20...

Good God, No.  Just, no.  Everything about this is wrong.

1 - Rutgers defeating Staee is always a good thing. Just because.

2 - The "Overrated" chant is awful.  You are denigrating your own team when you tell the opposition they were overrated.  "Ha, ha, you guys aren't that good.  Even our lousy team can beat you!"  There have got to be 100 better things to say.  Hell, even "Little Sister" would be a better chant than this (and that's a terrible chant too).

Just off of the top of my head, here are a few.  I'm sure there are other wordsmiths out there who can do better.  But, please, no "Overrated."

a debate about what time the game starts... What I don't undrerstand is Why is it a problem what time the game goes off for someone flying in. You know what day to fly in. You get the earliest flight available and get your ass over here. Problem solved. So you have to wait for a late game? spend your day in lovely AA and enjoy yourself, till you get to the tailgate. If its early like 12:00, no sweat your flight gets in early. So whatever time the game goes off it don't matter get here early. and be loud and Go Blue!

The OP stated that he wanted to fly home after the game if possible.  Some people would rather spend Sunday back at home rather than on a plane.  Obviously, the chances of making a Saturday night flight are much better for a 12 PM kick than a 3:30 or 8 PM kick.

If Southwest airlines is a reasonable option for your airport, and you don't mind their seating practice, you could purchase tickets for multiple flights. Then when you know which flight is best based on the game time (and potential traffic on I-94), cancel the other flights without penalty. Worst case you end up with credit instead of an actual refund.
