And how many times must we point out that rankings don't matter if the recruits aren't still around?

Here are U-M's 4 and 5 stars (Rivals) in the '05 class: Kevin Grady, Bass, Germany, Harrison, Manningham, McKinney, Moosman, Schifano, Slocum, Taylor, Zirbel. How many of them were on RR's first roster?

is that you rich rod? the defensive scheme under GERG was so atrocious that it didn't matter who was on the field and it didn't help that ryan mallet was run off and not to mention RR and hoke actually recruited well, they just couldn't coach worth a damn. How many years later do you intend to blame carr for all this? If anything, hoke *really* left the cupboards bare when all the recruits bailed and shane morris was granted a no-compete guarantee, to the point we had to pick up a bunch of grad transfers.

where the villains seem to have triumphed and are basking in their glory and the good guy is in the dumps but all that's really needed to turn things around is hard, really hard, work and a little help from some friends which is ideally all presented in a kickass montage.

polls should be where you are now and not where you could be.

My top 5.

1. Ole Miss

2. ND

3. Georgia

4. LSU

4. MSU, tad bit less than LSU though.

We got the raw deal out of the #1, #2 B1G teams last time it happened. This time, we will get the best of it. Go Blue!

It's a conspiracy to get better ratings for when they play each other. Just like how Michigan will mysteriously be ranked for only the weeks before they play MSU and Ohio.

Seriously though, if the CFP comittee was starting today, Ole Miss would be #1. It would probably go:

1. Ole Miss

2. MSU

3. LSU

4. Ohio State

First 2 out:

5. Notre Dame

6. TCU

And ESPN would rave about how strong the SEC is.

It's clear that college football fans will take some time to get used to rankings being as irrelevant as the college basketball poll now that we are in the era of the playoff commitee.

MSU has given up an average of over 400 yards in every game so far and lots of points. The loss of Narduzzi is a factor. how can the second best team be mediocre at best on one side of the ball? How long will that last?

Well, they played western michigan who has a passing game of legend. Western Michigan is easily the seventh best team in the Mac. They also played Oregon. Oregon had a quarterback with a broken hand and three weeks of time with the playbook, but he's beyond amazing. I doubt Oregon finishes the season ranked as their defense is the worst it's been in ten years. They also played Air Force and well, Air Force is hard to prepare for even though the SPARTAN players and staff said they've been preparing for them since summer camp. Well keep an eye on Air Force. This is the Spartans year and they really don't play anyone good until they play Ohio State. That's just the general view from East Lansing.

this sets up well. Michigan will get to play four ranked teams. this should set up an epic battle the week after thanksgiving.

I just can't understand MSU at 2. Yes I'm a hater, but damn AF had them inside their 5 what 2, 3 times and came away with nothing. And they have not blown me away in their other two games, that's for sure. Top 10, absolutely. 2? Hell no. I don't want to hear mork say jack shit about being disrespected again.

MSU has played like a joke so far. Also with OSU's struggle against NIU I'm surprised they're still #1. Not surprised the pollsters are riding these two though, they always get it wrong ...see no rematch for 2006 but a rematch just a few short seasons ago.

The SEC can't just sit back and have their entire conference voted into the top 10 for free anymore.

I don't really agree that OSU/MSU should be #1/#2, but this is the result of OSU winning the playoff last year.

Probably too early to call it "bad." They're 108th in the nation in yards allowed per passing attempt. But they've played Oregon, Western Michigan, and Air Force who were 1st, 3rd, and 4th in the nation in passing yards per attempt last season. Plus MSU had backups in against both WMU and AF for a good 80 percent of those passing attempts.

Right now I would say they're about average. The MSU D-Line is unbelievably good and generates pressure from multiple fronts on every single passing down so it's hard to tell when the secondary is actually playing well as opposed to when the front line is just dominating and making it impossible for the opposing QB to make a play.
