This is precisely what Brandon got wrong, he thought and said that high school athletes that we recruit, and the players on the team, were the most important audience for decisions he made. That is COMPLETELY WRONG. Everyone that ever played, everyone that ever attended, everyone that ever worked there, and everyone that is working there and going there now, are WAY more important to michigan and the michigan brand than current or prospective players. And it's not even close.

This is ONE team, out of 135 or whatever we are up to now. and Michigan belongs to everyone that ever went there, or ever worked there, not one group of players. Uniforms don't just reprsent the current team they represent all of us--if you don't understand that, it's not just another opinion--you are wrong.

I work on some very famous brands and collectively, no one cares about appealing to the loyal consumer. You're going to buy the product of you love it. It's about getting new folks interested in the brand. Dave Brandon didn't fuck up the idea, just the execution, response and management.

I work in branding marketing and advertising as a career as well, and have run some large brands (I agree with your Brandon statement) but my point is not that I or anyone is more important than the current players, my point is that the current players represent me, they represent you, they represent Michigan and everyone that has ever gone there. So I'm making the opposite point than you state--that we are all part iof Michigan, together, and that the players themselves, counter to the point the previous poster made, are NOT superior to anyone else. Yes, the players have an important voice, and yes, appealing to young players is important, but it is only one important thing. If the players voted to change the winged helmet would you be good with that? After all, gotta appeal to the kids right?

We can definitely agree that the ad business sucks.

And even with that...recruiting is vital to the future of every program so if this is seen as a plus with recruits..then why not? Hell, its apparently seen as a plus by at least one UM legend, the one most revered by fans over the last couple of decades, C Woodson.

all ages. They have no idea who the fuck MJ is. They only know him as a crying meme. They just see him as an old man

they associate Jumpman brand as the best. They don't know much about MJ as a basketball player.
August 14th, 2015 at 10:05 AM ^
The BRAND is what we're talking about! MJ isn't coming to play for us, it's the brand we're wearing. So what if they didn't grow up watching him? They know he was the greatest basketball player and that it's a powerful brand. That's the point of this discussion.

I've also interacted with kids of all ages, I was legally a kid not too long ago and I still have friends who are kids. I have siblings and cousins who are kids and I play basketball at a park that kids of all ages visit. There are still songs made about Jordan and not just his brand. I don't know where you live, but it must be under a rock if high school kids don't know who MJ is and I'm sure no one is recruiting out of that school. You're wrong on this one.

I know, this is a VERY small matter, but I hope we get Retro Jordan cleats, and not the more generic Jordan Brand cleats.
Retro Jordan cleats would be an excellent, albeit perhaps minor, selling point to recruits.

Did you not watch the video/read the other posts? Jordan welcomed Michigan as the first football program in the Jordan family.

Hell no.
A Michigan player must never wear anything red. Ever. Like, never ever.
Unless by "wear" one means "carry in teeth" and by red one means "a rose"

Put on the normal home jerseys and simple whites (no piping) and win some damned games so I can blow the whole thing off and go back to not caring about extraneous nonsense like this.

Honestly if this bothers you, it's most likely you have no idea what's going on. We'll let you know when the all white new balances go on sale.

It's stupid. That is a basketball logo. It has nothing to do wth whether it's new or not. It doesn't make sense, that is what is wrong with it. New is great if it is an improvement--Harbaugh is new, that is an improvement.

I'd be fine with it on cleats, hats, t-shirts, etc......but I draw the line on the Jersey. Just would look too weird to me.
But no asked me, so, what the hell?!?

I'm 21 and the prospect of the logo on the jerseys bothers me a lot. This isn't necessarily an age thing.
