Where do you tailgate?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Am curious where most MGoBlog posters tailgate when going to games.

I'm going to guess a majority of the answers will be on the golf course.

Every single Michigan game that I have gone to, I have tailgated at Jack's lot. It's across the street from the West side of The Big House on South Main and is the second empty lot on Potter Ave.

As I am an itinerant drinking person with no particular attachments save for a family and employment and no vehicle which could hope to suit a sizeable tailgate, I will tailgate wherever people will take me in. Typically though, I will make my weekly homage to the tailgate of my next door neighbor growing up, the man who introduced a little LSA to the magic of Michigan.

That was the picture John U Bacon used in his "Sellouts to Handouts" article he wrote last year.  That's my brother Charlie in the white shirt and the beard facing the camera and the guy to his left who is standing by the M flag is the host David.  And everybody there are Michigan Dentists.

I'm not in the picture because it was taken last year.  Had it been taken from 1988 to 2013 I would've been the tall drunk guy festooned in M gear from head to toe.

But then I move to about 3 aisles to the left of this picture. The second tailgate is on the wall in Schembechler Hall museum. Unfortunately, I am not in the picture, or you would never hear the end of it. Could you imagine saying you were in the Michigan Hall Of Fame for tailgating? Now that I know, I will come over and make it one more DDS.

Ann Arbor Golf & Outing. The closer of the two golf courses to the stadium. The U of M course is tempting because the price is lower.

Wow, reading these comments I am shocked to hear there's a no booze rule at AAP. Honestly had no idea. Anyways, AAGO is my go to. No specific spot but enjoy being on the grass only a stones throw from the stadium.

Really miss the Blue Lot. Get there early enough and you could grab a nice spot by the track. We were moved during stadium construction to Pioneer. Got priced out so we moved to a church down Main for $20.

My family has been tailgating in the Blue Lot since something like 1978. No matter what Athletics tries to do to smoke us out, we have a letter from Don Lund and the Victors Club telling us we have a spot there as long as my parents are alive.

AAGO.  Love it there.  Parked at Pioneer for years, but moved to AAGO a few years back and havnt parked anywhere else since.  Lots more room to tailgate over there.  Pioneer seems to pack em in like sardines anymore.  Still have to make a walk over to Pioneer for a Beer 30 shotgun each gameday though.  Regardless of where you tailgate, you're in Ann Arbor on a fall Saturday.  What could be better than that?  Nothing!

Before Dave Brandon changed the way tickets are sold with the priority shit, we used to tailgate right outside the student gate in the handicap parking lot at the top of the hill. Now we tailgate the closest you can be to the stadium off the golf course. We have for screens on the back of the truck and a nice little set up

Golf Course ...if closed due to rain/weather, we go to Scio Church or somewhere in the neighborhood just West of M Stadium.

Took over 2hrs to get from our spot back home (normally a 7min drive) after UTL #1

I always tailgate in a parking lot that is about a 10 minute walk away from the stadium. if you get off on the Ann Arbor Saline exit and head towards the stadium it's before the high school on the left side of the road. It's a big open expanse that goes down to a bigger lot way in the back that's all grass and trees. i'm always under a willow tree near the front and it's about the best tailgating spot possible. They even have porta-potties for fans. You are all welcome to come; I cook some really good food and always have plenty of booze the offer! (Across the street from Quiznos, I believe)

Since I graduated in 1990, I'd always tailgated at the "Victory Lane" Self-service car wash at the corner of Stimson and State Street.... but that just shows how long it's been since I've been to a game in person because my understanding is that place has been gone for years.
