Wisconsin Commit Jake Pickard offered by Michigan
He's a 3 star TE/DE out of NJ. Interesting to see Harbaugh and Co going after committed players. Not sure his interest level but he seems like a solid Jake Butt less than Jake Butt type player.
247 Has changed Michigan to the "Warm" interest level for what it's worth.
Hoke offerred him after his Junior year and has a pretty nice offer sheet from the likes of Oregon, BC, and Syracuse.

Well yeah, he's on the carpet. He's a gentlemen.

Look closer. It's tile, bruh.
January 21st, 2015 at 11:15 AM ^
I'm not your bruh, guy.
January 21st, 2015 at 11:21 AM ^
Well, I'm not your guy, pal.

A true gentleman - or a bro or bruh - would offer to take off his shoes, regardless of the nature of the flooring surface.
Think of the myriad of substances that your shoes encounter on an average day; that's what you're leaving on the floor of your home if you don't take off your shoes.

some people like their guests taking off their shoes (Liberty coach did not, point Michigan!)

The Jackhammer has manners. Whoever the Liberty coach is does not.

Also note the full wardrobe change by Dalton.
January 21st, 2015 at 10:24 AM ^
...so I noticed the same thing right away. Coach Harbaugh would be welcomed with open arms at the 1989 UM GRAD home!
I'd be interested to know if he offers to take off his shoes at all in-home visits. It's a nice touch that would surely be appreciated and create an immediate positive impression.

I'm a shoes-off kind of guy too. I would love it if we adopted the custom of having slippers available for guests to wear in one's house. (But I'd let Harbaugh come to my house even if he kept his shoes on.)
January 21st, 2015 at 12:31 PM ^
I respect the action but it's really a moot point for Jim as it is well known he generally hovers an inch or so above all surfaces, especially water.
January 21st, 2015 at 10:24 AM ^
Yup. In home visit looks like he left them at the door.
Liberty coach walking around the house in his shoes like he owns the damn place!

So when was the last time Liberty gave Michigan a run for a recruit?
January 21st, 2015 at 10:38 AM ^
even comprehend this idea. I mean, I know what you're saying, but the very idea of Michigan being thought of in the same context as Liberty makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
January 21st, 2015 at 10:10 AM ^
Wait...are you comparing Michigan to Liberty???
January 21st, 2015 at 11:44 AM ^
hes a pretty big DB

I don't think it's interesting that Harbaugh is going after committed players, I think it's normal/ expected, especially when the kid is committed to a school with a new coaching staff.

Is it only because we're late to the party (with regarding to picking up commits, given the necessary changes in staff, etc) that it seems like so many commited kids are flipping or taking official visits to other schools? Maybe it happens every year and we just don't notice, but no one seems safe anymore.

I like what Jimmy is doing with the TE/DE recruits. We need both positions so get them on campus and figure out what they play better. Good Move
January 21st, 2015 at 10:19 AM ^
Good. I don't believe that it's bad when coaches go after guys who are verbally committed to another team. Until they're signed, everyone is fair game.

I think Jones is headed here. Reading the Neb boards they seem like he is gone and his last public quote I saw 2 days ago is something like "I am still committed to Nebraska but we'll see how long that lasts."
I'm told #Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh had a "great" visit with #Nebraska DE commit Reuben Jones this morning: http://t.co/K3S0yxsErF @SamWebb77

I think Jones is headed somewhere other than Nebraska.
Not necessarily here.
He has also taken visits to Michigan State and Louisville. He hasn't been to Michigan yet, and I think it might be jumping the gun to say he's coming to Michigan. It could happen, but I think you're just guessing at this point.
January 21st, 2015 at 10:49 AM ^
Yes that is a better way to word it - he doesn't seem like he will be a Cornhusker. He seemed very high on Louisville after last weekend.
January 21st, 2015 at 10:52 AM ^
Yeah I don't think Nebraska should be counting him yet.
January 21st, 2015 at 10:37 AM ^
I like any player type that brings toughness to our team, he could be a Beyer type player, Beyer was a TE in highschool as well. BRING ON TOUGHNESS
January 21st, 2015 at 10:40 AM ^
He's going after a hand full of Wisconsin (and Nebraska) commits. Targeting the coaching change... "Blood in the Water"
January 21st, 2015 at 10:40 AM ^
Anyone else just waiting for that first commit? I feel like once we get one it will cause a few more. A part of me really wants the top guys to wait until signing day and then decide for Michigan on NSD. How awesome would that look?!
January 21st, 2015 at 10:51 AM ^
I have to imagine some will drop this weekend after/during officials, specifically the CBs. We have so many coming in, and if there are only 6 spots I cant imagine more than 2 going to CBs so some pressure there if they want in.

Pickard's dad carpet-bombed the blogosphere earlier in the recruiting process with Jake's highlights. I remember getting a Tweet from him, looking at his account, and then realizing that he was sending links to anyone and everyone from every major program around the country. It was actually pretty impressive that he would be working that hard.
Anyway, I remember thinking that Pickard looked like a potential tackle at the time. I'm not sure I like him as a tight end, and I think his upside is limited as a defensive end. Maybe his best bet would be to pack on the pounds and become a lineman full-time.
January 21st, 2015 at 10:44 AM ^
Good thing there isn't an early signing period yet.
January 21st, 2015 at 11:04 AM ^
This is the young man who's father knew Hoke from way back. I live in his home town and can relate that the word on the street here has him as a high character young man and good student in a very competitive school system.
I'd love to see him in Maize & Blue.
With offers like this, I think 'The Pattern' meme is carrying over from the last staff to this one.

This is fine and dandy but we must snake oil a Boilermaker...... It's tradition!
January 21st, 2015 at 11:20 AM ^
There's an in-state DT named Eddy Wilson II who just flipped from BGSU to Purdue...
January 21st, 2015 at 11:57 AM ^
I haven't been paying that much attention but it seems to me that the coach is particularly going after commits where the school has had a coaching change. It makes sense since now the kid has just lost the relationship he has built up with the previous coaching staff and JH is on equal footing.
January 21st, 2015 at 12:12 PM ^
Went after our recruits during our transition.
January 21st, 2015 at 12:40 PM ^
I have no problem with it either. It just seems like a good strategy, especially for higher rated recruits, or those in a position of need. It appears to be a good way to make up for lost time by simply attacking those that are no longer ahead of you.

Whoa, this kid goes to the HS I graduated from many years ago! Never thought I'd see a kid from Millburn get offered by Michigan. To be honest, Millburn is a perennial bottom feeder in its division and doesn't play the greatest competition. I think we've had only one D1 level recruit in the past 10 years...another TE who went to Syracuse.
Football has never been a big deal in Millburn, but who cares. I'm excited to hear about the offer and hope Jake goes Blue!
