For the life of me I can't understand what the 49'er's tactic is right now. They can't talk to another NFL team right now. They can wait until the season's over and try to talk to an NFL team, but there is a risk that he will veto. They don't know what he's thinking. They can talk to Michigan now and negotiate to get something in return. If they don't, they will risk getting nothing in return because Harbaugh will have the upper hand, thereby forcing them to fire him. It makes no sense unless they really think that he will for sure accept a trade. Given his disdain for them, I am sure they know less than us about what's on his mind. If I were them, not knowing where he stands, but knowing he hates them, I would negotiate now and get something.

Sorry about that - here's my point:  the 49ers certainly have a strategy but I cannot figure out what it could be.

- They don't know what is on his mind but they know he hates them and that Michigan seems to be standing on and holding course silently as if they at least know something.

- If they talk to Michigan now, they stand to gain something in return.

- If they wait until season end thinking that they can negotiate an NFL trade, they risk getting nothing because Harbaugh can decline and still have his option to go to Michigan without any form of compensation to the 49ers.

Am I completely missing something here?  The only think that I can think of is that they are going to wait until the Seattle game is over to make a move.  To wait any longer is not in their favor unless they are willing to bet several million that is staying pro no matter what.

Headed to Charlevoix tomorrow morning for the wedding of my nephew and a lovely young woman whom he conned into marrying him. (Just kidding - they're a great couple.) Here's hoping for good weather, clear roads, a great time, a lifetime of happiness, and good liquor at the reception.

And since he's a huge UM fan, I think the announcement of Jim Harbaugh as head coach would make the ideal wedding gift. (Too bad they couldn't register for THAT at Bed, Bath & Beyond!)
