For us that in the last 2 days after complete silence since Hoke was let go we have heard.

Miles contacted
Cutcliffe contacted
Jay Gruden contacted

Hackett sounds off on a lot of interest from other coaches. Just seems weird

Lost to Saban in another MNC...monster winning percentage in the ESS EEE CEE...held his own against Urbs

I like Harbaugh first but who thinks Miles is not elite is delusional.

Don't be that guy WD...we hire Les you should order a Dominos in celebration.

Not only Saban's players.  It was his third year there, so lots of contributors were his recruits.  And he still had to coach them.  Does Urban not get credit for his first BCS title because they were Zook's players?

Muschamp had Urban's players.  Kiffin had Carroll's players.  Just because you follow a great coach with good players doesn't mean you win a national championship.

R-E-L-A-X. Why wouldn't Hackett go chat with Les? Are we really going to disrespect him and not let him know what's going on?

Hackett is a boss. He's handling this as classy as can be. We're still getting Harbaugh.

Meh, they're reaching out to a lot of guys.  It makes sense to talk to Miles - and then leak it - because as more of the "Michigan reached out to __" stories come out, you don't want Miles to look like a Plan Z if he eventually becomes the coach.

Plus, Miles isn't Harbaugh, but we could do much, much worse.

Like others, I don't think we should withdraw on the possibility that Harbaugh is legitimately interested merely because we reached out to Les. It is entirely possible that the initial net cast was rather wide and they still have a primary target who may still be at least interested. The idea that we may have reached out to a fair number of coaches (the search firm would probably do this, no work in some serial order down a list) doesn't really mean much towards the relative odds of landing Harbaugh.

I mean, like in two hours it has gone from Harbaugh is interested in Michigan, to Michigan is reaching out to Cutcliffe and Miles.

I am 100% ok with this.  Maybe this is a coded ultimatum.  Have to believe JH knows Les would come.  Either way, 10 years of Les would be just fine for UM.  Hackett would make it quite clear that the SEC ways stay in Baton Rouge if he comes.

Were you guys expecting us not to contact anybody for 21 days? If Hackett doesn't go out and say "Hey Les, what's your interest in coaching Michigan?" now then the search will end around New Years. Also, todays reports say that we think there's a good enough chance with it to wait on Harbaugh.

A bunch of us would be happy with Miles as a plan B (maybe distant plan B) in the event we whiff on Harbaugh. Don't you think we should reach out to him in building this backup plan, just in case?
Why would we freak out that we reached out to him as if Harbaugh said no, but not when Cut or any of the other candidates are reportedly reached out too?
Do you think it would be better to appear to have courted JH and all these other coaches and then Miles, seemingly, as a last ditch candidate?
That would seem foolish to me.

Maybe... Just maybe... Hackett hasn't hit the trails hard yet aside from Harbaugh out of respect for Hoke and the Banquet that occurred yesterday. Now that the banquet is over Hackett can officially move forward creating a whirlwind of news as each candidate's interest is gauged.

Just thoughts...

If your choices are Michigan for just about as long as you please and unknown but almost certain NFL opportunities/dollar amounts/conditions, why wouldn't you wait as your hand is likely to get stronger.

If you are Hackett and waiting for a decision, you'd want to put a little pressure on Harbaugh, of course applied with the right touch.

No. It's harbaughs job if he wants it. No need to put any kind pressure on him until after the NFL season. We don't have a coach yet. There has been nothing in regards to any sort of emerging candidates. Just looking into interest levels. Very slow moving process. That obviously points to Michigan waiting until the end of the NFL season to make a decision.

I honestly wish we didn't announce the Hoke firing. We still have another three weeks of this shit.

Can you imagine the stress of not knowing whether or not you were going to ultimately get fired by your boss for weeks?  That's cruel and that's what somebody like Dave Brandon would do.

If he's up to it, Hoke can polish up his resume and look for other jobs right now.  He won't have to sit out another year until the end of the 2015 season to look for a job.  Plus, if the contract was not renegotiated, he got to keep an extra $1 million dollars.

You can all take this one of two ways. The people making these decisions, Hackett, are covering all of their bases because as of now they are unsure a to what Jim will do in the near future. The negative outlook, yes this is the negative, is that Jim has made it known that he is no longer interested so Hackett is seeking out other more viable candidates that he is sure will have more than a passing interest.
