Thank you Dave for...
at least having the courtesy to step down. It's hard to say now whether this was a "forced" resignation or if he willingly offered his resignation, but if it was willingly, I do want to thank him for that courtesy. This gives the school time to get the new AD in and, subequent to that, time to find a coach who won't have just a week or two to re-inforce the recruiting class.
Thanks, Dave...now get the hell out...just kidding. I don't want to stomp on someone who is down. This was the right thing to do. Good luck to you.

Well he had to do something destructive before he left..
October 31st, 2014 at 3:46 PM ^
How about taking a 80% pay cut to become AD, making a $2M personal donation to Mott's, and doing a lot of good work for our athletic department in facilities and competitiveness.
Now back to your regularly scheduled, uninformed bashing...

Dave,
Thank you for making two terrible coaching decisions consecutively.
You're a douche and have wasted nearly a decade of our loyal fandom.
Sincerely,
The person who should have been hired if you werent here.
October 31st, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
I am pretty sure Dave Brandon had nothing to do with the 2008 hire of Rich Rodriguez. Bill Martin was the AD at the time.
October 31st, 2014 at 3:32 PM ^
...RichRod, in this case
...also qualifies as a coaching decision.
October 31st, 2014 at 3:48 PM ^
I read it again, and that is correct.
I still wouldn't necessarily call terminating Rich Rod as a "terrible decision." I mean sure know it's easy to compare how Hoke is doing compared to Rich Rod at this time, but I would say a majority of our fanbase did want Rich Rod gone after the Miss St bowl game. That season did not end pretty...

he left $3M on the table unless he negotiated a severance.
October 31st, 2014 at 2:14 PM ^
For me, and hopefully for a least a few others, that's a big deal. No matter what he did, if he leaves that 3 million behind that deserves to be recognized.

it made me angry driving by his house to take my little girl to see her grandma.

Surely you can understand some of the wonderful things Dave has done with his money. The $2M for the NICU alone is enough to give the "grave dancing" a rest.
Was he a crappy AD with poor tact toward the fan base and did he have bad ideas for advancing M athletics? Yes. But he has done some amazing things for our athletes, and has shared a great deal of his wealth. I know, as a father of two little ones, I would be very grateful for what Dave has done if my family ever needed the care his generosity has provided.
October 31st, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
has worked in peds cardiac surgery for over 30 years at mott. what dave has given to them is great. to downplay any donation of any sort that contributes to the greater good of the community is wrong. however, for him to take the attitude that he was jesus christ and we were his disciples is also wrong. this man is no lloyd carr. lloyd is not in it to puff out his chest. he quietly raises millions of dollars for the hospital and university through various fundraisers and you dont hear a word about it.

Few people are the man Lloyd Carr is. And tell your mother thank you. I am sure that job has had some gut-wrenching moments.

Your mom may very well be helping to take care of my great-nephew right now. Thank her for me. He's a tough little guy with some more fight ahead of him.

Schlissel said further details will be provided on the resignation, which may include a measure of severance.

As with anything else with Brandon, this is about ego. He wants some face-saving measure. You could argue that he earned it. (I would disagree, but I am constitutionally unable to not consider the other side's position.)
October 31st, 2014 at 2:32 PM ^
... will be available today per the President.
I'm sure he's getting some sort of buy out. i didn't realize he personally donated $2M to the new NICU at Mott. +1 to that!
October 31st, 2014 at 2:32 PM ^
I guarantee that he negotiated severance as part of his agreement to resign this year. I suspect he received almost the same exact deal that he would have received had he been canned.

Yes. While it wasn't the most appropriate response for a man in his position, the "Quit drinking and go to bed" line made me genuinely LOL.

Thank you for not participating in the Schlissel press conference regarding your "resignation". And thanks, most of all, for leaving rather than allowing your presence - rightly or wrongly - to cause any further damage to an institution we all love.

I appreciate all the kind words here, everyone. Since my services are no longer needed at the University of Michigan, I will be spending more time learning how to read blogs. I'm new at this, so go easy on me.
Just as my job and personality are, my comments will also be to the best of my ability.
