Didn't want to editorialize in the original post, but this is pretty terrible. Thoughts and prayers to the victim. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery.
I hear that he was suspended 4 years by the NCAA for underage drinking. The assault and battery could be worked off with stadium stairs.
This isn't it.
I don't feel that what I wrote was bad at all. I never said anything bad about the victim and I hope he recovers and is out of the hospital soon.
According to the Minneapolois ABC affiliate's report, Kolstad has a family himself too, so thoughts and hope for a full recovery to him, his wife and children and the whole of his family and freinds really. I sincerely hope that they not only find the other person they are looking for, but that both Nelson and the other person get to go away for a good long time. Adam Thielen of the Vikings, who played at Mankato as well, said there will be a candlelight vigil at the school's stadium on his Twitter feed too.
Philip Nelson doesn't deserve the privilege of having a college scholarship or to play Big Ten football. I hope Rutgers responds to this appropriately.
Rutgers just can't seem to get any good news lately.
This was messed up, I witnessed this first hand and I hope they do nail him for it.
Wait? You were there? Why did he do it?
If you actually witnessed it first hand, you can probably HELP them nail him for it.
Yeah, I was there I go to school in Mankato. I have no clue how the fight started but it was a pretty bad sucker punch that knocked Kolstad out, then Nelson kicked him while he was out cold, before the cops got there. My roomate gave an eyewitness report to the cops but there literally was 100 or more people in that area as it was at bar close and everyone was on there way home.
He took the cowardly way! If you want to fight someone, be a man and go toe to toe. That sucker punh stuff is B.S. Then to kick someone that is already incapacitated is down right disturbing. Hopefully his actions land him in jail, he will learn a lesson or two there.
The sad thing is a lot of kids seriously don't have the maturity to realize what they're doing, or that there are real life consequences to their actions. I hope the victim recovers.
Yeah, this isn't good for anyone involved. Ugh.
I feel terrible for the victim and his family.
I hope, if what is reported is true, that Phillip Nelson does some time.
This is really sad. I sure hope Kolstad fully recovers.
I almost went to Mankato, crazy
lol.
Dumbass. Maybe will grow up or learn sometime.
A plausible defense and or sentance for this crime?
On a serious note, wow. Don't drink so much, and fighting is never worth it unless you're defending your life.
Unfortunately, the latest news is not good for the victim of this assault. His father posted on a CaringBridge page that Isaac Kolstad suffered permanent brain damage and is fighting for his lfe:

Very sad. Keep him and his family in your thoughts today.
