Good News: MSU AD Says Mork Isn't Getting Fired

Mates,

As the MSU plane augers into the ground, it looks like the MSU AD won't be pulling the coaching parachute before impact.   Per his comments in a freep article, firing Mork 'is not even a discussion'.  While being wary of beating sparty next week, given the fairly apparent trajectory of their program this is good news.

Have a great weekend, beat bye and Go Blue!

Like I said on Twitter though, we're talking about an AD whose previous position involved decisions of no consequence to anyone other than the caterer, so let's not get TOO excited here. Dantonio might actually leave yet.....when they actually get an athletic department with a spine.

MSU had a run of real nice seasons that just happened to coincide with Michigan and Penn State imploding.  Now Spartan fans think those years are their baseline and something's wrong if they can't get back to them.  Good luck chasing that dragon.

Mork has 2x B1G division titles, 3x B1G championships and 1 playoff appearance.  Yes he is on the downside but that is one hell of a run.  I would take that in a heartbeat over the next five years.

One of my tests for the sensibility of certain sports decisions is the "enemy" test. Want to know if going for it on fourth down is a good idea? If the opponent things, "oh, no," then it's probably a good idea. If they think, "ha ha ha yes please," then maybe you should trot out the special teams unit. That sort of thing.

This works on the macro level, too, with larger program choices. Coach hiring, retention, and firing is one area where we can follow this metric. Nobody pointed and laughed when OSU hired Urban.

After how effective Dantonio was against us early in his tenure, the fact that this thread can be posted with this title and it's not ironic and it's not illogical? That says something about the MSU program under Dantonio right now.

Breaking news, water is wet. No shit Sherlock, unless he steps down they are stuck with him which should be good for teams across the league, and bad news for who ever does eventually have to follow him as his recruiting has been God awful and the cupboard will be bare.

Very few coaches are literally un-fireable, but given his record at MSU—winningest all-time and second in winning % only to Munn—Dantonio would have to string together several horrible seasons before he’d be tossed. He’ll retire before things get to that point.

When the discussion is real enough that the AD has to chime in publicly and say "we aren't even having a discussion", it's on everyones mind.

Hopefully state continues to implode and they all hug each other and vow to never fire anyone, as the ship sinks.
