Super Bowl Prediction, Winter Storm Watch, BBQ and Beverage Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on January 26th, 2019 at 8:11 PM

Mates

We are just about a week out from the Super Bowl.  It'll be indoors in Atlanta with the NE Bradys playing the LA Rams.  The Bradys are favored by 2 1/2 points. The over/under is 57 1/2 points.  I saw some of the other things people can bet on such as MVP, who scores first TD, half time predictions, and many others.  Rather creative.  They say 80% of the folks are picking the Bradys.

Saturday night BBQ and beverage thread is not to be forgotten.  BBQ is lit and we have burgers, lamb loins and peppers going.

Winter storm headed our way, maybe yours too.  Looking like a foot and a half of snow or more starting tomorrow.  Sons split and stacked wood and the wood stove is stoked.

3 Questions tonight:

1.  Whose your pick in Super Bowl 53?  What other predictions do you have about it?

2.  What is on the grill tonight?  In your cup?

3.  Storm coming your way?  Prepared for it?

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend despite the hockey team's first period.

Subscribed to the channel. He posts some good instrumentals "stoner" bands aka my cooking music from all over the world. Obviously, not all that he posts tend to be my cup of tea but there are some dandies. Those I like I put into my music folder on Youtube.

1.  Pats.  Just hard to bet against them.

2.  Nothing on grill.  Just crushed some homemade shepherds pie and it was the bomb.  Founders Porter in my pint glass.

3.  Major part of storm is gonna miss us but we’re still getting a good bit of snow over the next week.

As for the snow, I am sure even here in Metro Detroit, where they are currently saying 3-6 inches as opposed to Friday morning's doomsday forecast, the kids will likely be off on Monday.

Come to think of it, if the roads look like they suck, I might be off Monday too. We shall see.

I am NOT prepared for bitter cold. Even though I have all the gear for it, I am not mentally prepared for "it's a dire mistake to go outside" weather.

1) Pats, Goodell cries.

2) grilled chicken, shrimp and pepper, skewers (turned into tacos).  Idiom imperial porter by Griffin Claw.

3) Hail yea, bring it on, I’m ready to build a snowman or two and take my kid sledding!

We're not getting the foot-plus you're getting, XM, alas. We're getting the cold, though. And it looks like we might get some lake enhancement, so more than just a dusting that would otherwise occur.

I don't usually go to a lot of effort for dinner on Saturday nights, my effort being focused on "cooking" for Sunday.

I think the Rams train grinds to a halt. They were kinda lucky to get out of New Orleans, and while they made some plays and moved the ball, they weren't spectacular. Bill Belichick, given two weeks, is going to find flaws in their offense (especially the QB) and wreck them.

The only chance they have is if Donald and Suh demolish the Pats O-Line and Brady finds himself struggling to get time. A Giants-type situation. It's not impossible. But the game the Rams win is a game where the winning team probably doesn't score 30.

Patriots win. Brady will continue to show why he is the GOAT.

Nothing on the grill. I heated some Lasagna in the microwave though. I usually don’t drink from a cup, usually a bottle for me boys.

Storm doesn’t seem that bad. No preparation needed as far as I can see.

Patriots for sure, thinking Tom retires after they win.                                              My wonderful wife made boneless loin pork chops in the crock pot. Sipping on a Johnnie Walker White now.                    Calling for snow and the polar vortex here in GR area.?

1. Brady wins, mass butthurt from pretty much everyone but Wolverines and Pats fans, and it's going to be AWESOME

2. Goose in the crockpot

3. Hell no. I hate this weather. However, if I end up getting snowed in, I've got damn near endless meat and vegetables, a home gym, and a bottle of 100 proof Southern Comfort

I just throw it in a crock pot and season it with rosemary, oregano, bay leaves, salt, pepper, garlic, and a little onion powder. I put some onions and mushrooms in there with it and let it cook on the low setting all day.

I'm no master chef, but this seems to work for me. Every other method I've tried resulted in extremely tough meat, but this gets it nice and tender. It tastes almost like roast beef.

1. Not the Rams (I say, hopefully). My other prediction is that I won't be watching -- unless my  97-year old father would like me to join him, in which case I will, but I'll bring a good book.

2. My MGoMrs set out shrimp cocktail, which we are enjoying by the fire with Four Roses Single Barrel (me) and Macallan 12 (her). Then she's going to make Moroccan poached fish from the Prittikin collection of recipes from my cardiac rehab program. She's never made it before, but I am sure it'll be delicious.

3. No storm here, thankfully.

1.  The Brady Bunch

2. Tonight: brisket and the chopped chicken from Arkins (Southfield).

3.  My foot is broken.  Wife is in charge of the upcoming weather.  Bless her.

1: Pats by a TD.

2: Went our for dinner, but made the wife a white chocolate fondue tonight, which was kinda fun.  Alternating Hopslam and some Hill Farmstead Edward.

3: Ready for snow on Tuesday.  75 days til the Masters.

1.  I'll take the Patriots.  My other prediction is that I'm probably wrong after going 0-2 last week, but I hope not.

2.  We ordered wings and pizza from Barro's after my son's basketball game.

3.  Still no storm in the Phoenix area...just great weather.

1. Pats because I root for Tom Brady and LA sucks.

2. Nothing in the grill but Founders Backwoods Bastard 2017 followed by Goose Island Bourbon County Barleywine 2016 in my cup (glass)! That’s harder to beat than Tom Brady!

3. Not prepared. Just too snow blower to shop today for repairs. Shoveling out Tuesday am is going to suck like the Rams...

St Joe Blues

January 26th, 2019 at 9:37 PM ^

1. Pats win again and even more jealousy of Tom Brady surfaces: QB, GQ man, Super Bowl champion, again, married to a super model...

2. Had homemade chicken nuggets (my wife is the best).

3. We're only expecting 4" of snow in St Joe at this time. I hate the cold that's coming after it, although it's only for a couple days. When i lived in Minnesota, we once went 23 days without getting above 0*.

Pats in a methodical win.

Still recovering from jaw surgery. Had pancakes that I squished up against the roof of my mouth and then a bowl of salsa that I ate like effing soup (getting desperate).

Meh. Bring it on. We’ll see the same, tired, recycled stories about snow and cold and people at the Kroger near my house will flip out and hoard stuff.

Let me be the FIRST to say this. I haven't seen anyone else mention this so if you steal it and you most likely will, you can fuck off because you cant come up with your own ideas. This is Tom's last game and he wins it. He grew up a Niner's fan in the 80's. The Rams had some damn good teams then. He remembers that and the ass whooping the Niner's gave them and all of their Super Bowls. They owned the 80's. Tom has a mental edge over the Ram's going into this game. Book it...

Can't say that I care who wins the Super Bowl.  I know too many dickish Pats fans to root for them despite Brady.  No reason to care about the Rams.  Will watch anyway because football.

No grilling, went with a pizza.  No booze either, just LaCroix.

They're saying up to 15" by Tuesday along the Lake Michigan shore, driving for work on Monday is going to suck.

I think this year’s Super Bowl is somewhat of a snoozer. Not a blowout, but a game where the Pats are consistently ahead by 10-17 points, the game always feels just out of reach, and the Rams can’t seem to break through with enough big plays to really turn the tide.

If Goff didn’t have a big second half slump to his season I may feel differently, but I have a hard time seeing him beat Brady unless LA’s DL has an otherworldly NY Giants-esque performance.

If if was NE and New Orleans, I would’ve probably picked New Orleans to win it all. But LA doesn’t really deserve to be there, and I feel like Brady is going to show us all why. McVay is a great coach and he’ll get a ring or two before his time is done, but methinks Belichek is going to be his daddy next Sunday night.

Final score prediction: NE - 38, LA - 21

Patriots win. squirt in a glass bottle from mexico so real sugar and homemade deep dish pizza in a cast iron pan. I'm in LA and it was hot today. A winter storm would be awesome but pretty sure it would kill all the LA drivers.

1.  Patriots, because obviously.

2.  No grilling.  Leftover spinach pie.  I am not a vegetarian but I love that stuff.  Need to clear the fridge.

3.  It was 52F in Durham today.  Probably the same tomorrow.  Stay warm up there and make sure the snowblower starts.  I have fond memories of those cold, snowy days growing up in Michigan.

1. Feel like the Patriots are going to win this one with ease.  TB has been surgical in the playoffs and I expect that to continue.

2. Couple Rib Eye’s on the Kamodo & sipping on some Orin Swift - Machete

3. Beautiful night in AZ, stay warm east coasters.

I do root for ex wolverines, but I care more about the team I root for than where the guys went to school. I'm a colts fan, so I will be rooting against the Patriots.

I think the Rams win 38-34 in a shootout. The Rams have an all pro D line, which is the recipe to beat the Patriots.

The Patriots basically have Tom's clutchness, and Bill's brain. But this Pats team is probably the worst out of all of the ones to make a SB. I'm going to take the Rams because they have the better players, and a coach that is trying to stake a claim as the new Bellichik

Pulling for the Pats.  Assume they will win by 7.  LA’s offense should keep it close.

Went to our favorite burger joint for dinner tonight, so my grill was idle as it usually is during winter in Chicago.

Looks like we’ll get another 3-4 inches starting Sunday night.  Got another 3 inches today after 2 yesterday.  Not looking forward to the bone chilling cold coming on Tues through Thu.

Ive got some limited release Dungeons IPA from Half Acre that I’ll be breaking open soon.  Picked up a bunch of local beer yesterday, so guess I’ll be busy this week.

1. Go Pats.

2. Marinating some prime rib burgers w/ homemade steak sauce/louisiana hot sauce/ weber Chicago steak rub for tomorrow. Sippin' on a vodka/soda mix right now. Might switch to an Avery IPA later tonight.

3. Weather is supposed to be in mid 50's tomorrow here in Colorado (Boulder Co.) so the plan is to grill those burgers that are marinating right now. Cold spell and snow hits on Monday so going to take prime advantage of the grill tomorrow!

1. Rams win. Too much pressure up the gut from Donald and Suh. But I think it will be surprisingly low-scoring, maybe 21-17.

2. Little Caesars deep dish Saturday

3. We'll get 6-9 tomorrow, and Wednesday should peak at -15. Poor kids waiting at the bus stop might freeze.
