I don't know how coaches vote in CBB but in CFB I remember Tom Herman being asked about the coaches poll and he said the coaches don't watch other teams close enough to be able to properly rank them. Theyre focused on their own team and their teams opponents.

Coaches poll is a joke

Correct. I simply don't understand why there is a coach poll. Tom is right. How anyone can believe the coaches have any idea how good teams (other than their own and opponents) are is strange to me.

ESPN matchup predictor gives Wisconsin 57% chance to beat us. Which is weird given how mediocre they have looked outside of a road win at Iowa

Yeah, I'm not sure why ESPN's BPI metric is lower on M than most other systems, but Wisconsin has some other impressive wins.

Crushed Oklahoma by 20, beat NC State and just two games ago won by 19 at PSU, which is better than MSU and M did recently against PSU.

That said, Trice was playing out of his mind earlier in the season, he's come down to earth and I think Wisconsin is solid but not the top 20 team the metrics think they are.  Even still, Torvik has M a 3 point favorite.  I don't think the Vegas line is out yet but my guess is it'll be around 5.

Tennessee's SoS for example is 26 where Michigan's is 75.

I'm guessing that's where the difference in rankings comes from.

But FUCK Sparty.  They're ranked way to high -- floor slapping is not a metric.

MSU has 1 win over a ranked team #23 Iowa. They have 2 losses including one to unranked Louisville. Tell me why MSU is ranked ahead of Kansas, who beat MSU head to head. Izzo gets every benefit of the doubt, every year, even over Blue blood programs like Kansas.

Top 2, top 4, at this point what does it matter?  Miles to go down a long road through Wisconsin, Indiana, Maryland & the Landfill.  And that is before either tourney starts.  Many opportunities to prove worth.  Many.  If those lads keep doing what they do, the kudos (and the title) will be there.

Number 1 would be nice to have for some PR, but what really matters are the banners. Big Ten Regular Season. Big Ten Tournament. Final Four. There are lots of really good teams every year that don’t hang any banners. I like our chances to get one, but I won’t be shocked if we don’t.

Syracuse just knocked off Duke.  Tyus Battle poured in 32 points.  So it took 3 years, but he finally helped out UM.

The new rankings came out before, so UM will have to take care of business Saturday against Whisky to make the anticpated move up.
