Tate Martell in Transfer Protal

per TV on twitter. This does not mean he is transferring but can be contacted by other programs.

I am guessing that he feels that Day is not going to give him a real shot at the starting position if Fields is ruled eligible to play next year. Further, Day must or had to have told Fields he would be the starter if cleared to play. It would make no sense for him to transfer to a school that he would have to sit behind a QB for two years, that is the exact reason he left Georgia. Probably a lot of backroom talk/deals being made and Tate is doing what he feels is best for himself.

The optics of Urban sitting court side on a nationally televised bball game with Fields and Haskins, while Tate was 50 rows up, just adds to it. And lastly, this may be his big FU to OSU, he is gone and now Fields does not get his waiver....

Sort of sucks for Tate Martell.  You have to admire Brandon Peters for sticking around this year.  Having Shea come in sucked for Brandon.    Even though Michigan benefitted from Ruddock and Patterson, I don't like the whole NCAA free agency thing for players or coaches.   It makes college football less special.

Good point about Peters. He'll probably transfer with his degree, and more power to him. He got annihilated at Wisconsin, struggled in the bowl game, and got passed both by Shea and by DMac, and while he was above Milton in the rotation, Milton got some redshirt "let's see what he can do" snaps that Peters never did.

Drama coming from Peters over this: Zero.

With Peters what is the benefit of transferring? Stick (or read as stuck) around one more year at Michigan and get your degree. With your degree in hand, you can transfer to any school and not have to sit. Peters has what two more years?

Last season he was still being coached by a top coach. There was always the chance that injuries would happen and if you believe in yourself, you might get the chance to play your way right back into the starters discussion.

With your degree in hand, you can shop for the right situation without sitting. I don't look at the Peters situation as team sacrifice. I feel bad for the kid but I think he was looking at the situation and doing what was best for his personal situation not the Team, the Team, the Team. As I alluded to, that doesn't make him a bad kid, just not the selfless saint.

It seems unlikely that Hurts would want to go to a contested qb situation with only one year of eligibility left. I read today that Miami was also a very likely stop for him. Hadn't heard about Auburn, which would really make his transfer a slap in the face to Alabama.

I can see Ohio State recruiting Hurts though as a way to ensure continuity and immediate playoff contention with Fields transfer and immediate availability a question mark. I mean if they would go after two Michigan defensive coaches simply to damage Michigan recruiting effort and staff, they would clearly do that. The thing is, though, if Fields gets immediate eligibility, they have created an unnecessary backlog and new problem. Still, look for them to make a run at Hurts.

Patterson's transfer to UM wasn't exactly on the up and up either guys. His brother was on staff but he knew NOTHING about the sanctions coming to them? I've got a bridge to sell you if you believe that.

This kid is such a bitch. I was hoping he would stay at OSU so we could beat him.

People that were saying Justin Fields "isn't that good" last week are going to be in for a rude awakening over the next few years.

Tathan is a bitch solely because of his attitude, tweeting history, and the comments he made once the possibility of Fields became apparent. Do you not agree? Take a look at these comments:

“Why would I leave for someone who hasn’t put a single second into this program?” Martell told the Athletic’s Ari Wasserman. “I have put two years of literally working my ass off into something that I’ve been waiting for and a dream I’ve had my whole life. To just run away from somebody who hasn’t put a single second in at winter workouts and doesn’t know what the program is all about? There’s not a chance.”

This is the biggest non secret that’s been out there even before the Fields thing. Funny how is backup in high school for 3 years has already started 5-6 games in college.

Sometimes this site makes me laugh.  Of course fields will get to play, he's got a better case than Patterson.  Both should be eligible immediately.

How does Fields have a better case than Shea? Shea was lied to by his coach in texts to coax him to coming to Ole Miss

Fields was called something racist, one time, by a baseball player who was immediately kicked off campus. Fields continued to play the season. And Fields wouldn't be transferring if he was the starter

Fields will be granted immediate eligibility though because the NCAA wont want to fight this in todays political climate

Highly rated QB transferring, hires retread DC (Mattison), loses coveted DC (Grinch, and yes, Day wanted to keep him regardless of how OSU spins it), has Day already lost his team? What's going on in Columbus?......Hope everyone gets the sarcasm and the perspective at same time.

"Don't swing and miss. Especially not your second time"

Martells famous last words as a Buckeye before transferring in fear of losing the job to Fields

Its BS that Fields is going to be granted immediate eligibility based on that UGA baseball player who said one racist thing to Fields like a year ago and was kicked off campus right away

It would be glorious if Fields was denied and Tate transferred

Pls god let it happen

Funny story about Tate.

Being in the coaching field (HS in Georgia), I'm in contact with quite a few of the scout guys that cover the talent down here.  One guy in particular told me a story of Tate at the Army All American bowl his senior year.

During their check in process, right before they get their gear (and they get a nice hook up), they do a full height, weight, wing span, hand size and all that similar to the NFL combine.  When Tate found out what they were doing he freaked out.  In a total panic, he started MF'ing the staff about the process.  Come to find out, he's a super Dbag and obviously self-conscious about his height (he's only 5' 9-10) and hand size.

Here's to hoping he stays at OSU!

Give me Justin Fields in a brand new conference, a brand new playbook, and no real game experience over a guy who has been coached by Urban Meyer and had time to understand the playbook any day.

But if a first year head coach and first year qb manage to get by our team next year, we're going to have to reevaluate.

Seems to be a forgone conclusion that Martell will transfer from O-State.  A lot of it has to do with all signs pointing toward Fields gaining immediate eligibility.  Martell has already taken down Buckeye stuff on his Twitter, and changed his location from the shithole known as Columbus, to Vegas (where he is from).  Pretty sure he ends up at WVU, or Miami.  Bubba Bolden just committed to Miami, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of lobbying to get Martell down there.
