I completely understand this but I also recognize that I’ve never walked in their shoes.  I played sports and was part of teams until the day I walked out of high school.  Great memories and some of the lessons I learned about being part of team I still apply in my career.  However, I was never asked to lace them up for an exhibition game when I knew I was about to get paid to play.  And with coaches proving over and over again that college sports are a business I just can’t grt upset with the kids for treating it like one too.

Worst case, DB leaves and we find a new guy. I love DB as much as the next guy, but this is, at the very least, the best time for him to leave. We just brought in a new recruiting class, so it wouldn't immediately hurt our recruiting. Plus, his D has just been completely exposed against top-flight teams.

Not saying I welcome him leaving or want him to leave at all, but, if he were to leave, this would be an opportunity to transition to a more "sustainable" D, one that can work well against both worse teams and top programs without needing major adjustments (more Cover 2/Cover 3) and/or All-American players (Bush, Gary) to function. We've seen that a talented DC running a more vanilla scheme (Durkin) can still have a similar level of success.

If I am a college and hire a new coach, no way do I even let him leave for anything unless he’s horrible. This buy out shit is ridiculous now adays.

That’s really unAmerican of you. Who should not have the chance to switch jobs? And because some teens may have signed up for a free college degree for playing football?

For one, new recruits usually are let out of their LOIs in these cases. Two, there are clear rules and processes for the possibility of such scenarios, so these emotional pleas for students being screwed is just that—emotion. How many kids signed with Temple think they had better program offers? If they signed with Temple, it was likely over smaller, less successful programs. If not, see #1: they can ask for a release from LOI andextremely likely  still have chance to play freshman year somewhere else.

I'm not sure Miami will go with an in-house hire after Richt. There are other names I'd keep an eye out for; Mario Cristobal, Lane Kiffin, maybe even Butch Davis who is currently coaching at FIU.

SB Nation’s Steven Godfrey reports that the two finalists Diaz beat out initially at Temple were Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko and Michigan DC Don Brown.

Please Note Mike ELKO TURNED DOWN TEMPLE He was the first one offered the job... Later that same Day Diaz was hired.

With both out of the picture Don Brown appears he would be the sole focus of them to start unless they start looking at other candidates. Maybe Major Applewhite or such but Don Brown could leaving....

At this point, I assume Temple is going to look beyond their original options.  Elko passed, Diaz passed, I sort of doubt Brown falls in love going to a place where you are clearly their 3rd choice after two other DCs.  Now, going after Applewhite would make more sense; he's a young guy who previously wasn't available and might not mind a change.  Or maybe you try to poach a guy from ND or some other team that might have been focused on a bowl game but are now free to look around a bit more.  I wouldn't be shocked if Brown left, but if I'm Temple I'm not sure your third choice is an inspiring one for anyone involved.

TU alum/donor

Not a chance they chase Applewhite.

Fanbase wanting one of Temple legend Todd Bowles, former coach Al Golden or former coach Bruce Arians

They might go younger guy like Josh Gattis but this would make the fanbase (even more) unhappy given the recent experience with Al Golden (went to Miami), Steve Addazio (went to BC), Matt Rhule (went to Baylor) and Geoff Collins (went to Georgia Tech). Fans looking for a Temple guy and some stability (despite all these coaches averaging decent to good success in North Philly).

Why on earth, other than his Philly ties, would Temple hire Todd Bowles?  The guy hasn't coached a single DOWN at the FBS level. His last college experience was 20 years ago at Grambling. He didn't exactly cover himself in glory at the Jets either.

I don't understand how administrators and alumni can so vastly underrate the recruiting process and the experience of recruiting. It just takes time to learn and frankly most pro coaches don't want to do it anyway. Those that do don't understand that it's a constant, all the time thing. So they put together a decent first class off name and excitement and then slowly taper off until they are fired leaving the program nowhere.

Two reasons:

a) Bowles is an unabashed lover of all things North Philly and Temple and the presumption is he would not leave for greener pastures. This would be unlike Golden, Addazio, Rhule (whose wife actually worked F/T at Temple during his time at the school and with the Giants) and more recently Collins the guy would actually *want* to be there (assuming he's interested in coaching at all, of course, given his recent firing by the Jets);

b) The perception is that Bowles would be able to recruit in Pennsylvania/NJ given he played at Temple etc. This is probably pretty accurate, actually.

Now, I personally would prefer Temple to re-hire Golden (who did an exceptional job at 10th and Diamond) but that's me.

Anybody wishing Brown gone is not allowed to complain about 2020 recruiting. Brown would no doubt take Patridge to be his DC and our best recruiter, Al Washington, as well (Brown has been his career mentor). Recruiting trail gets tough losing 3 of your best recruiters after they’ve been building 2020 inroads for a year.

Please Temple, back up the Brinks truck for DB, I know he is considered fantastic by most around here, but his last three games to close out seasons; '17 South Carolina, '18 OSU and Florida says he is no longer the elite we need.

Pep can go to Detroit and Partridge can be the new DC and PLEASE find a young and creative new OC.  The comparisons to the last years of the Les Miles/LSU marriage are getting too familiar with Harbaugh and this staff.

DJ Durkin. Does he get a chance back here? I know peppers was critical of him, but defensive coordinator may be a step back in for him. Kind of similar To Greg Schiano, who interesting was rumored to be a candidate at Miami today before Manny ran back.

People almost always get second chances. And third and fourth chances. OJ Simpson. Bobby Knight. Robert Downey Jr. DJ Durkin or Art Briles is not that extremely far fetched. I’m not saying I want them. I’m saying someone may hire them someday. Rich Rod was kicked out of Arizona cause they were mediocre and cause of his affairs, etc. and now will get a OC position. It happens. Be realistic. The only way it doesn’t is because society stopped forgiving people, some deservingly so.

Such extreme failures do not get second chances at Michigan. Nobody stated that folks don’t get second chances, nationwide.

Any Michigan fan should understand that “Leaders and best” is serious in considering ethics—they are not hiring someone with current ethical questions that outweigh their skills. Hoke blew on the field and was still 50/50 until he let Morris go back in. Gary Moeller was forced out despite being a great coach.

Michigan would not entertain hiring a questionable character with a recent huge public reputation problem. Hell, Harbaugh still gets rightfully criticized for a DUI from when he was just starting his coaching rise to fame at USD. If he were not a descendant of Bo and so far removed from USD as a NFL hot shot, he is not UM’s coach. If it were any issue with sexual assault or players death/culture, he never gets job here.
