And to be even more honest, the National Championship under Lloyd Carr in 1997 was the Charles Woodson show. Without him Michigan may have lost to Ohio St that year too. Lloyd Carr had a losing record in Bowl Games, 6-7. Bo Shembechler had a losing record in Bowl Games, 5-12.
I want Michigan to be a perennial top 4 program. It is close to it now. But it is not.
December 9th, 2018 at 11:46 AM ^
to say we’re osu’s little brother is one of the dumbest takes of all time. their football program is better than ours, and has been for some time, but we are better than them at literally everything else: basketball, hockey, academics - pretty much across the board, ethics, basic human decency, etc., etc.
would it be nice to win football games against them? without a doubt, but i (and i’m guessing just about every other um alum on the planet), wouldn’t trade places with that discrace of a school for anything
December 9th, 2018 at 1:59 PM ^
I agree with your point, but I think the combination of how recently the decommittment happened and that it was our highest ranked recruit in a position of need is what's causing the sting, coupled with a frustrating loss to OSU. I guarantee a committment from Harrison would completely change our perceptions.
December 9th, 2018 at 6:34 AM ^
Using that logic then we should be able to flip any PSU or Wisconsin commit.
December 9th, 2018 at 8:54 AM ^
Yep, this^^^^. By utilizing the “we lost to Ohio” logic, Logan Brown should be clamoring to come to Michigan-Wisconsin is 1-2 against Harbaugh. And why wouldn’t the 29 point loss to Purdue ruin Ohio State’s recruiting? Franklin is 1-3 against Harbaugh, yet they are getting Micah Parsons type recruits. Having two DBs switch commitments in one evening stinks to high heaven. If only we could subpoena their phone records, there might be a common number in there...
As someone who grew up in CA, and is old enough to remember George Wallace on the steps of of the University of Alabama preventing the admission of Vivian Malone and James Hood, the admission of California kid Najee Harris to Alabama also raised my eyebrows. California culture and Alabama culture are as divergent as French from German. This whole thing is so pernicious because it becomes a positive feedback loop. He gets the best players because of his “support”, which leads to victories, which leads to the best players wanting to go there, which leads to.... Why has Kirby Smart been such a better recruiter than Mark Richt?
Just venting because I’m frustrated this Sunday morning, but.... the loss to OSU hurt, no doubt, but I think other factors are in play, and the dual flips of defensive backs raises that level of suspicion to 11. And, there is no academic standard by which University of Alabama compares to University of Michigan. Not...a....single....one.
December 9th, 2018 at 9:35 AM ^
This is all correct.
It seems like many want to believe in CFB as a more or less clean and legitimate enterprise.
But, just like the FBI showed in CBB, CFB is riven with cheating.
No way Alabama gets rolling and then sustains for such a long period the greatest run in the history of CFB without systematic and institutionalized extra benefits.
Its not the only factor (Ole Miss was never going to become Alabama by cheating, in part becasue many of the schools in their conference are also cheating), but it is a necessary ingredient.
December 9th, 2018 at 9:42 AM ^
The fact that the defensive backfield is an area of relative weakness (compared to the rest of the Alabama team) further heightens suspicion....

Does the license plate on the back say 62-39?
December 9th, 2018 at 5:40 AM ^
No, it reads $62390,
December 8th, 2018 at 11:13 PM ^
Georgia puts up 450 yards on Alabama’s defense and a week later they have flipped 2 of the best DB’s in the county on the same night. Yea, that’s legit!
December 8th, 2018 at 11:41 PM ^
Yeah but Bama won the game, and they’re 13-0, and they’re in the Playoff yet again.
December 8th, 2018 at 11:15 PM ^
Someone dumped more $$ into the signing bonus pool at Bama.
December 8th, 2018 at 11:20 PM ^
Look on the bright side - Harbaugh will now offer some generic 3 star from SE Michigan and the MGoBlog slappies will drool all over the kids tape as he runs all over Division 7 competition.
December 9th, 2018 at 12:11 AM ^
Can there be a resurrected troll account that doesn't say "slappies"
December 8th, 2018 at 11:26 PM ^
What's crazy is both of these kids run a 4.3 40. That kind of speed is exactly what we need. Fckin dax.. Maybe he might flip back to us before February???
December 8th, 2018 at 11:39 PM ^
Ask Santa to make it happen on behalf of all Michigan fans
December 9th, 2018 at 12:46 AM ^
He will sign with Bama next week.
December 9th, 2018 at 2:00 AM ^
This would be the "Denial Phase."
December 9th, 2018 at 3:41 AM ^
Damn this hurts. Was it something we did?
Fuck you for leaving us... unless you want to come back.
This is just too much, I cant take it anymore
Were ok, were ok, we can get through this
Ok lets move on whats done is done a new day awaits!
December 8th, 2018 at 11:44 PM ^
I would love for the equivalent of A&M’s Mgoblog and us to have one long discussion thread of how much we hate Bama and how to topple their empire. The rage in both fan bases must be outrageous at the moment.
December 8th, 2018 at 11:58 PM ^
Saban broke down the tape from the SEC Championship, identified his biggest weaknesses, then hit the road to address them. That's what champions do.
It's hard to find fault with Carter and Dax. When the king knocks, you answer.
As for Harbaugh and Michigan, let's just hope they're taking notes.
December 9th, 2018 at 12:02 AM ^
That’s the most damning thing. They don’t seem to be. How could they have not prepared for OSU’s base offense? It’s crazy.
December 9th, 2018 at 12:17 AM ^
And yet anyone who spent time thinking about it would realize that they spent a lot of time preparing for it, thinking about it, planning for it... and OSU also spent such time and did better. And there's not much prep that can make up for zero pressure on the QB.
December 9th, 2018 at 12:35 AM ^
so i'm not understanding your comment. We spent all this time preparing, and planning, and yet no matter what we did we would have been screwed because additional prep would not have mattered?
December 9th, 2018 at 1:58 AM ^
Well, insofar as allowing a very good quarterback to have all the time he needs to pick apart a defense is hard to overcome, yes. But I was responding to the idea that the coaches just didn't prepare for the game, which is absurd. They may have made an error in that preparation, or failed to install compensation for something that OSU wound up doing. Perhaps there were things that could have been found; asserting that they didn't work or try, particularly given copious evidence of the extensive preparation they've done in other parts of the season, is ludicrous.
It is more useful to inquire about why, given that they did do this work, they were unable to execute. The answer starts with the shocking failure of the defensive line, a failure that was fundamental to the events on the field but is so perplexingly uncharacteristic that most fans have simply blacked it out and pretended that it didn't happen. Because it's not like the people responsible for the D-Line have done a poor job, so there's nobody to fire. And yes, it is that important to all types of defenses.
Beyond that, looking at defensive philosophies, the play calls, etc, can be productive. But it doesn't do any good to pretend that Don Brown spent the week playing Candy Crush instead of studying film and building a gameplan. The useful question is: Why, given that he's an excellent D coordinator, did his preparations get exposed so badly?
December 9th, 2018 at 12:41 AM ^
Run a soft zone. Slow them down. Bend dont break. It’s not like osu was unstoppable. The idea that there’s absolutely nothing Michigan could have done to stop osu from scoring a record number of points is silly. The coaches screwed up. It’s ok to admit it.
December 9th, 2018 at 1:05 AM ^
Maybe we should bring back the bend, but don't break philosophy. It does not help us in the long run when we seem to be able to suffocate most inferior opponents and let the good ones have their way with us.
December 9th, 2018 at 2:00 AM ^
Michigan ran a decent amount of zone against OSU and generally got eviscerated; of course, that happened with everything they ran.
December 9th, 2018 at 9:18 AM ^
They clearly weren’t prepared to run it. Good players didn’t have a clue what they should have been doing. That’s 100% on the coaches.
Players also couldn’t deal with OSU’s hurry up - another huge failure by the staff.
December 9th, 2018 at 5:01 AM ^
AGREE!
It’s silly to think that our defense cannot defend simple crossing routes.
Like you said, bend don’t fuckin break. In many games, OSU offense stalled in the red zone as the field contracted.
What in the world are Harbaugh and Brown were doing during the preparation week? Unbelievable!!
December 9th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
When the king knocks, you answer.
Except the king already knocked, and Hill didn't answer the door the first time. Something major changed
December 9th, 2018 at 12:06 AM ^
very curious to know how long this Bama train is going to keep going. It’s like the longest rerun ever
man, just a constant kick in the jibblets around M football right now.
December 9th, 2018 at 12:20 AM ^
will continues as long as their engineering school remains tops in the country. Maybe Michigan should poach some of their top engineering profs?
December 9th, 2018 at 1:06 AM ^
....no, the engineering dean, remember he is a football guy!
Wonder what engineering degree da'shawn hand got???
December 9th, 2018 at 1:13 AM ^
I just want to see Michigan beat OSU and win 1, just 1, championship in my lifetime. The Bama, OSU, and Clemson trains just keep rolling, running over my fandom in the process and winning titles like crazy.
It seems like a losing battle. And it's really beyond fucking boring at this point.
December 9th, 2018 at 2:06 AM ^
Saban is old and will probably die in office like Paterno. He should stop dying his hair it looks ridiculous.
December 9th, 2018 at 5:52 AM ^
Saban is 67. They don’t appear to have a coach in waiting (unless it’s Urban Meyer.....wow that’s a scary thought). So maybe another 3-5 years.
December 9th, 2018 at 12:26 AM ^
don't want Michigan to be Alabama.

December 9th, 2018 at 2:03 AM ^
The power 5 conferences should adopt a salary cap. Would create more parity. If a school thinks they can't afford it then okay bye, join the group of 5. Otherwise nothing will ever stop bama.

December 9th, 2018 at 3:35 AM ^
Don't these kids have any fucking imagination?
It's pathetic.
December 9th, 2018 at 3:59 AM ^
also, don’t believe Hill came from an impoverished home or difficult situation. Think this had more to do with perceiving Bama as the better option after time to observe
December 9th, 2018 at 5:28 AM ^
Yeah, I think after 62-39 everyone perceives Alabama as the better option. Well, everyone but the "bagman" commenters here at MGoBoard.
December 9th, 2018 at 5:17 AM ^
Here's something that will never happen: Nick Saban flips Pep Hamilton to Bama. Because Nick Saban would never want Pep Hamilton. He likes winning the big games.
