Bama Flips Texas A&M DB Tonight as well

Submitted by CincyBlue on December 8th, 2018 at 11:02 PM

Ranked in the top 40 on ESPN, Alabama also flips Texas A&M commit 4 star CB Jeffery Carter.   That is quite a coincidence in the same night.

And to be even more honest, the National Championship under Lloyd Carr in 1997 was the Charles Woodson show. Without him Michigan may have lost to Ohio St that year too. Lloyd Carr had a losing record in Bowl Games, 6-7. Bo Shembechler had a losing record in Bowl Games, 5-12.

I want Michigan to be a perennial top 4 program. It is close to it now. But it is not.

to say we’re osu’s little brother is one of the dumbest takes of all time. their football program is better than ours, and has been for some time, but we are better than them at literally everything else: basketball, hockey, academics - pretty much across the board, ethics, basic human decency, etc., etc.

would it be nice to win football games against them? without a doubt, but i (and i’m guessing just about every other um alum on the planet), wouldn’t trade places with that discrace of a school for anything

I agree with your point, but I think the combination of how recently the decommittment happened and that it was our highest ranked recruit in a position of need is what's causing the sting, coupled with a frustrating loss to OSU.  I guarantee a committment from Harrison would completely change our perceptions.

Yep, this^^^^.  By utilizing the “we lost to Ohio” logic,  Logan Brown should be clamoring to come to Michigan-Wisconsin is 1-2 against Harbaugh. And why wouldn’t the 29 point loss to Purdue ruin Ohio State’s recruiting?  Franklin is 1-3 against Harbaugh, yet they are getting Micah Parsons type recruits.  Having two DBs switch commitments in one evening stinks to high heaven.  If only we could subpoena their phone records, there might be a common number in there...

As someone who grew up in CA, and is old enough to remember George Wallace on the steps of of the University of Alabama preventing the admission of Vivian Malone and James Hood, the admission of California kid Najee Harris to Alabama also raised my eyebrows.  California culture and Alabama culture are as divergent as French from German.  This whole thing is so pernicious because it becomes a positive feedback loop.  He gets the best players because of his “support”, which leads to victories, which leads to the best players wanting to go there, which leads to....   Why has Kirby Smart been such a better recruiter than Mark Richt?

Just venting because I’m  frustrated this Sunday morning, but.... the loss to OSU hurt, no doubt, but I think other factors are in play, and the dual flips of defensive backs raises that level of suspicion to 11. And, there is no academic standard by which University of Alabama compares to University of Michigan.  Not...a....single....one.

This is all correct.

It seems like many want to believe in CFB as a more or less clean and legitimate enterprise.

But, just like the FBI showed in CBB, CFB is riven with cheating.

No way Alabama gets rolling and then sustains for such a long period the greatest run in the history of CFB without systematic and institutionalized extra benefits.

Its not the only factor (Ole Miss was never going to become Alabama by cheating, in part becasue many of the schools in their conference are also cheating), but it is a necessary ingredient.

Georgia puts up 450 yards on Alabama’s defense and a week later they have flipped 2 of the best DB’s in the county on the same night.   Yea, that’s legit!

Look on the bright side - Harbaugh will now offer some generic 3 star from SE Michigan and the MGoBlog slappies will drool all over the kids tape as he runs all over Division 7 competition.

What's crazy is both of these kids run a 4.3 40. That kind of speed is exactly what we need. Fckin dax.. Maybe he might flip back to us before February???

I would love for the equivalent of A&M’s Mgoblog and us to have one long discussion thread of how much we hate Bama and how to topple their empire. The rage in both fan bases must be outrageous at the moment.

Saban broke down the tape from the SEC Championship, identified his biggest weaknesses, then hit the road to address them. That's what champions do.

It's hard to find fault with Carter and Dax. When the king knocks, you answer.

As for Harbaugh and Michigan, let's just hope they're taking notes.

And yet anyone who spent time thinking about it would realize that they spent a lot of time preparing for it, thinking about it, planning for it... and OSU also spent such time and did better. And there's not much prep that can make up for zero pressure on the QB.

Well, insofar as allowing a very good quarterback to have all the time he needs to pick apart a defense is hard to overcome, yes. But I was responding to the idea that the coaches just didn't prepare for the game, which is absurd. They may have made an error in that preparation, or failed to install compensation for something that OSU wound up doing. Perhaps there were things that could have been found; asserting that they didn't work or try, particularly given copious evidence of the extensive preparation they've done in other parts of the season, is ludicrous.

It is more useful to inquire about why, given that they did do this work, they were unable to execute. The answer starts with the shocking failure of the defensive line, a failure that was fundamental to the events on the field but is so perplexingly uncharacteristic that most fans have simply blacked it out and pretended that it didn't happen. Because it's not like the people responsible for the D-Line have done a poor job, so there's nobody to fire. And yes, it is that important to all types of defenses.

Beyond that, looking at defensive philosophies, the play calls, etc, can be productive. But it doesn't do any good to pretend that Don Brown spent the week playing Candy Crush instead of studying film and building a gameplan. The useful question is: Why, given that he's an excellent D coordinator, did his preparations get exposed so badly?

Run a soft zone. Slow them down. Bend dont break. It’s not like osu was unstoppable. The idea that there’s absolutely nothing Michigan could have done to stop osu from scoring a record number of points is silly. The coaches screwed up. It’s ok to admit it.

AGREE!

It’s silly to think that our defense cannot defend simple crossing routes.

Like you said, bend don’t fuckin break. In many games, OSU offense stalled in the red zone as the field contracted.

What in the world are Harbaugh and Brown were doing during the preparation week? Unbelievable!!

The power 5 conferences should adopt a salary cap. Would create more parity. If a school thinks they can't afford it then okay bye, join the group of 5. Otherwise nothing will ever stop bama.

Here's something that will never happen: Nick Saban flips Pep Hamilton to Bama. Because Nick Saban would never want Pep Hamilton. He likes winning the big games.
