Would a basketball national championship be just as satisfying as a football national championship?
Irrespective of how we might feel about the state and direction of our football program, few would disagree that the basketball program has given us more to celebrate in the past few years and is closer to the top of the mountain than its gridiron counterpart. This season is shaping up to be special and it looks like there's no limit to what this team can achieve if it's firing on all cylinders.
And yet, Michigan has always been perceived, internally and externally, as a football-first school. So my question for my fellow MGoBloggers is this: would you find a basketball national championship as satisfying as a football national championship?
I consider the NCAA Tournament to be the most exciting event in all of American sports, and as a lifelong Michigan fan who came of age in the late 80's and early 90's during the Steve Fisher/Fab Five era, I personally would find it every bit as satisfying. Having said that, historically I've followed college football more closely than college basketball. But I'm curious about what the board thinks. What say you?

I was a freshman in 1989. I would trade that basketball championship for JT Barrett to have been called down short of the first down just to beat OSU one time, and never think twice about it.
Not even close.

I was a senior in ‘89 and I can’t understand that view. Have you forgotten what a thrill ride that was? Frieder quiting 2 days b/f the tourney? Rice averaging 30/game, a record that still stands and may never be broken? The blood battle with the Flyin Illini in the semi? OT thriller in the final?
Dude. I love football too but man, I wouldn’t trade the ‘89 title experience for anything

Basketball championship would be cool, football championship would make me wake up with a smile for about a month thereafter. (So no).

I was around for 1989 and 1997. Football was far more enjoyable to me.

No, but I would like to win the championship in both please. (As long as we are being hypothetical.)
I can name most of the past national football champions but not too many of the past basketball champions.

No.
As much as I would celebrate another Basketball (or Hockey) National Championship, I'd go absolutely NUCKING FUTTS over a CFP National Championship!

I enjoy watching bball. They continue to exceed expectations and win big games. $ spent worthwhile with zero hype. Football not so much. Notta

Sorry but no, not even close.

Let’s win one of each and find out!?

It would be for me. Ohio State fans wont even mention basketball. If we would win a championship in basketball, it would keep Michigan athletics in a positive light and end a streak that the B1G has of not winning a championship in basketball since 2000.

Basketball is great, but my main love is Michigan football.

For me, it would be very satisfying. Beilein deserves a title. It would also make an irrefutable case that our basketball program is elite and approaching blue blood territory. We are close to that point now, but not quite. Football may be slightly more satisfying, but only slightly.

Yes the basketball team actually deserves a national championship. The football team does not.

While Harbaugh will be running the 30 iteration of the Waggle next year, Beilein is studying Zavier Simpsons shot trajectory
