I signed up for the online masochism class.

You're getting OSU ads for the same reason FauxMo always gets ads for tentacle porn
November 27th, 2018 at 11:46 AM ^
If you click that ad you're costing OSU money, so there's that.
I'm more annoyed by the flood of troll accounts since Sat.
November 27th, 2018 at 11:48 AM ^
Just downvote and scroll past any account created on or after Saturday. Most of what they say is stupid and the purpose is to inflame.

I have no idea what the hell that thing is but I like its taste!
November 27th, 2018 at 1:06 PM ^
I can't believe he ate the whole thing!
edit: After a second look, I can believe it.

This is a Google interest related ad. Has been discussed on the Board multiple times as I was reminded when I brought it up. The arrow and the X in the upper right corner are the tell. Based on your browsing history. Close it and Notre Dame or MSU may come up.
November 27th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
I believe the ads you see are placed based on your internet browsing history. So, if you have visited 11 warriors or the ozone recently that may be why you see OSU ads.
November 27th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
I get these a lot because I am working on an online MA at Iowa and did a lot of research into online grads programs beforehand.
November 27th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
Oh phew - I thought the ad might be for "how to defend a crossing route - only $99"
November 27th, 2018 at 12:04 PM ^
I already bought that for the coaches for Christmas. Shhhh...
November 27th, 2018 at 11:49 AM ^
You'd think people would know how internet ads work these days. Stop going to OSU sites brah!
November 27th, 2018 at 12:03 PM ^
Yea, silly me. I would have though a 1000 visits to MGOBLOG and other UMich sites might trump a single visit to an Eleven Warriors article in that all-knowing, all-logical algorithm.
So, no, I don't understand how internet ads work these days.
November 27th, 2018 at 11:50 AM ^
BTW I've given up completely trying to educate Google on my ad preference. You can close the same ad repeatedly and tell Google why you hate the ad and it will reappear immediately.
November 27th, 2018 at 11:55 AM ^
Not worse than my 4 year old telling me yesterday he should get an Ohio State shirt to wear so that he can root from them in all of the games they play, except maybe Michigan.
He's at that developmental stage where handling losing is difficult... Now that I think of it, many of us here are still in that stage.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
"... except maybe Michigan."
That was to placate you, man. He'll be cheering for OSU silently for that one.
November 27th, 2018 at 5:22 PM ^
My 3 year old equates any football to "Go Blue". She would never consider rooting for anyone else, and if she did it would be because Go Blue is football, and football is Go Blue. Daddy, is "Go Blue" on? Daddy, I don't wanna watch "Go Blue", I want Paw Patrol. Daddy(with devilish look) why do you yell at the t.v.?
Hangs head in shame......
November 27th, 2018 at 11:56 AM ^
You DO know how online adverts work, right? You're getting this ad because of your own volition. Not because the Blog put it there...
November 27th, 2018 at 12:13 PM ^
You DO know the definition of volition, right? I don't recall Google asking me to decide if I want to see an OSU ad.
Definition of volition
1 : the power of choosing or determining : will
2 : an act of making a choice or decision also : a choice or decision made
November 27th, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
Yea well it was your choice to visit OSU sites ... so yeah I do know what volition means.
November 27th, 2018 at 1:33 PM ^
Look, I just don't appreciate the condescending response and responded accordingly.
Stating it was of my own volition when you don't even know what actions actually caused the ad to pop up is a bit presumptuous.
Consider the following actions...
1. Read a non-OSU sports news article from a source frequently visited that never results in such ads.
2. Article about Michigan game discusses Haskins that had an interesting stat with a link (doesn't state the source).
3. Click on said link, takes you to Eleven Warriors.
4. Exit article. No other visits to OSU related sites of any kind.
5. Next day log into MGOBLOG and see OSU ad.
I would argue that to be "of my own volition" implies that I took actions 1-4 knowing full well that the outcome would likely be #5.
If you think that's the case, then fine. We disagree.
I didn't blame MGOBLOG for the ad. I just found some irony that the Google algorithm in it's infinite wisdom decided to show me that ad, given recent events.
November 27th, 2018 at 12:06 PM ^
Mgoblog has no control over what ads you get. It's based off your browsing history for the eleventy billionth time.
November 27th, 2018 at 12:27 PM ^
Cool. Hook 'Em.
Looks like you got negged for every one of those eleventy billion responses.
November 27th, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
Also, I didn't say MGOBLOG put the ad there so there is no need to be condescending.
What I said was that it wasn't cool that it popped up. I made a post because I found some irony that Google's algorithm chose to kick me in the nuts at this very point in time, instead of the many other times I've visited various sites that didn't result in an ads beyond the ones that I see on the site all the time.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:58 PM ^
There is a need to be condescending because it's a stupid post. Stupid people deserve shame so they will either better themselves or get out of the way. I believe in you to better yourself. So do that.
November 27th, 2018 at 4:29 PM ^
It's OK. There is no need to say that you deserve shame and that I should be condescending to you.
I didn't like your post, but I wouldn't call you stupid over it.
Thanks for believing in me though!

I’m actually disappointed that this thread isn’t about Gene Smith creating an MGoBlog account to troll us.
November 27th, 2018 at 2:30 PM ^
We sent them to the playoffs probably, put Haskins back in Heisman contention, & are getting torched in the media now - might as well have ads for them as well ....
November 27th, 2018 at 7:41 PM ^
Effing Beavers!
November 27th, 2018 at 10:14 PM ^
And while we’re at it, can someone please make the ads concerning “How to get your parents to love you” and “John Cleese shirtless” GO AWAY?
