This will be the thread for hot takes and snowflakes regarding the overall coaching in this game versus Ohio State.

First drive.

Higdon runs for 8 yards on 1st down.

Oh ok let's take him out and run bullshit.

So fucking dumb.

I knew it was a loss at that point.

Getting cute

Don't really give a shit what JH did at other stops. Look at the 1-2-3 list above. High level coaches shouldn't be doing that.

Go for 2 before half?? Then forced to go for two on the next one, almost got Patterson killed. Both fails.

Everyone needs to just stop with the "fire the coaches" "Jim Harbaugh sucks" hot takes!  It's getting ridiculous, at this point.  As disappointing as today's loss was....we wouldn't have been in the position (#4 ranking and playing for the chance to play in the conference or possibly the national championship) without Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh wasn't hired to just win championships.  He was hired to return Michigan to a place of respectability.  He has done just that!

Lloyd Carr was 1-6 vs Jim Tressel.  Lloyd Carr gave us the most humiliating loss in the history of Michigan football (App State).  Lloyd Carr took over a good team and his coaching record goes as follows:

9-4, 8-4, 12-0, 10-3, 10-2, 9-3, 8-4, 10-3, 10-3, 9-3, 7-5, 11-2, and 9-4.

Other than the one amazing season (with Charles Woodson), look at his season records.  He also had a 6-7 bowl record!  Yet, we as fans look at Lloyd Carr as great coach....because of the results of ONE SEASON!

Michigan still had a ridiculously long bowl streak, never lost to a Mac team, had a winning steak against MSU, and had never been shut out.

The next two coaches promptly fixed that.  They accomplished the humiliation of not only several LOSING seasons but they threw in the joy of fighting tooth and nail with the UCONNs of the world.

Boy, it sure was fun losing almost every year against Jim Tressel, thinking that a record above 500 was "progress", losing to App State, Losing to Mac teams, losing to RUTGERS, and getting SHUT OUT against Notre Dame!  Sure did enjoy our only win against Ohio State was with a 7-5 team, in an interm head coaching season, but being humiliated by Michigan State and Ohio State EVERY YEAR!  Watching Michigan State turn into a national powerhouse.

Forgive me for not bringing out the pitchforks against a guy that IMMEDIATELY took us from a national Joke, to a team that has national respect.  A guy that that completely flipped the Michigan vs MSU rivalry (Two dominant wins and two losses that everyone knows Michigan is still the better team).  A guy that makes going into the OSU game seem winnable.... Even with their decade recruiting head start.

Yes, he is 0-4 against OSU.  Urban Meyer is a great coach, with a VERY good team....year in and year out.  Even Saban's record against Meyer isn't very shiny.

Harbaugh took over a team that was a laughing stock.  A team that was looking up to the eventual NATIONAL CHAMPION OSU, and (the next season) a final 4 team MSU.

Yeah....I think he's doing a great job with this program.  Our luck will change soon.  Being a fan isn't about when things are going well, but how they act in the downtime and in the time of ascension.

Harbaugh is 2-7 against rivals, has won literally nothing in his career as a coach, and michigan just got stomped by the worst OSU team they've played against with the best squad they've had. Whatever stupid shit you're telling yourself to justify these losses are just that. Stupid shit to justify being a loser.

Oh, but they beat up a bunch of mediocre teams.... yay.....

Dude, why are you talking about Lloyd Carr?  That was a long time ago.  So what if Carr let Tressel eat his lunch?  What relevance does that have today?

Anyway, I do not want JH fired.

But I do want him to get rid of Pep.  That offensive approach is a liability in today's CFB.

JH needs to find a true OC that can bring some modern offensive concepts, blend it with JH concepts, but mostly let the new OC have autonomy.

Pep and Jim go back a long time.  But sometimes new faces bring new ideas.  That is needed.

It would be interesting to compare how OSU prepares for The Game compared to Michigan. I read somewhere that Haskins was quoted as saying he watched a little bit of film on Michigan every week whereas Shea said he focused solely on the next opponent. OSU always looks more "up" and prepared for this game than Michigan. The fans even act the same way as evidenced by the amount of red we see in the stadium when Michigan is the home team.

Fucking fire Jim already. Guy is a complete loser who has never been able to win the big game going back to Stanford.

We can pay so many other coaches 7M a year for 9-10 wins and a blowout loss to OSU. Plus, then we'll never have to put up with his bullshit press conferences where he looks even more terrified than he did today.

What a pathetic performance by a so-called "Michigan Man." You're not Bo. Get over it.

I didn’t get to watch the game today as I was at work however I have the fortune of living in Cleveland so, everyone was making lots of noise. Needless to say it appears that the DL got whipped today and against Haskins that = death.

I don’t know when if ever a win can be expected against osu. Extremely depressing.

Maybe the coaches should let the players coach themselves in whatever bowl game. Bet they would do a better job prepping themselves than what this staff did. Absolutely inexcusable what was presented today. The whole country is laughing at this. There might be some truth to the "overrated" comments about UM. Nothing is being done to disprove it as far as I can see.

People who say fire harbaugh are nuts.

michigan has already had two seasons under harbaugh, in which the game was damned important.

Yes, urban is a better coollege coach, but I think he’s the second best behind Saban.

on offense, Michigan needs to use their receivers more. I don’t see a guy like black sticking around for twenty snaps and two targets a game. Michigan needs to be using DPJ, black and Collins because they are the strength of this team and the team going forward. They run too much and it hurt them when they couldn’t get a stop.

DB needs to mix in way more two high and zones. Yes, they did that more this year, but they got taken apart today, and it didn’t seem like they had any answer.

No firing, but they need to be a hell of a lot better if they want to match OSU.

Agree. The thing that sucks is M has all the resources, coaching staff, S&C etc. and still can’t beat this team. I am 37 yrs old M has not beaten osu in Columbus since I was a Fr in undergrad and I am starting to come to grips w/ the real possibility the M will never beat osu again in my lifetime. It is uncanny how M finds new ways each and every year to lose this game.

Not rocket science what Meyer did today - for all who's bragging him up.

Find mismatches & exploit them. Put players in that have the best chance & make in game adjustments as needed.

That's what we expect our staff to do also. But they shit the bed ...& a lot of players choked.

JH doesn't seem to get how much momentum impacts cfb also. 3 & out on first drive of second half - by super conservative calls was a killer. Had a chance to take the lead & get the team going there.

What we witnessed today was in part due to stubbornness, plain and simple.  Stubbornness on the offensive side of the ball to stick to the "identity" of the team and run the ball in predictable fashion, and the refusal or inability to scheme match-ups against an opponents weaknesses... like Ohio State exploited against Michigan today.

Stubbornness on the defensive side of the ball to start the game in press man coverage despite the lessons from the Indiana game that any sane person would've expected Ohio state to capitalize on.  Love Don Brown, but there's no excuse for what happened today coming off the heels of the Indiana game.

Coach Harbaugh has to diversify the offense more when playing teams like Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc..  Like Howard Griffiths said on BTN, when you run 2-3 tight-end sets and don't stretch a defense out, the defense can effectively play you in a box, especially when they don't feel they have to worry about your athletes in space.

100% agree. It will never happen though because of.......stubbornness. JH should absolutely be ashamed of himself and his staff for how bad they were outcoached today. Totally embarrassing for him and the university. Most points in history of the game under his watch. Maybe not as bad next year but it will be the same result no doubt. I say that in full confidence to!!!!!!

I agree. It seems like some programs only (or mostly) focus on what they are doing on offense regardless of what the defense does, with the thinking that if we execute properly, they aren’t going to stop us. Only we can stop us. I remember Jimmy Johnson said this when he was winning Super Bowls in Dallas, but he had great talent on those teams.  It seems like Michigan does the same thing, which can work if they have a talent advantage, but doesn’t when they are at a talent disadvantage, like today.

Psu knocked Haskins around all day & had him rattled. We let him have all day to pick us apart.

Don't understand why Peters wasn't put back in?? Was a long shot- but we still had a chance at that point.

Bottom line is we are left hoping Urban Meyer retires, because we are not beating them until he does.

The OSU staff out schemed us all game long, they knew everything we were throwing at them on both sides of the ball.

Love Don Brown, but let's not kid ourselves, the Big Ten was hot garbage this season, some horrendous offenses.  This defense was overrated because of competition.  Still a top 10 unit, but in any other Power 5 conference not top 5.

OSU saw some stuff on film with our defense and they exploited it all day long.  The key IMO was they called our blitzes successfully and gave the QB time to pick us apart.  They have 3 elite WRs on the field at all times and at least 1 of them was constantly in a mismatch

Today’s game was a HUGE disappointment, but the program has progressed a lot since last year. We completely dominated Wisconsin, MSU and PSU this year. One of the best things about Jim Harbaugh is his relentless commitment to winning (with integrity).  I believe he will continue to make adjustments until he wins at the highest level.

Jimmyisgod

November 24th, 2018 at 8:38 PM ^

Minnesota and BYU completely dominated Wisconsin too.  Wisky sucked this year.  MSU sucked too, they barely beat Rutgers.  Penn State was barely competent this season too.

This was a big step back year for the Big Ten.  A terribly down year after a stellar bowl record last season.  OSU wasn't even that good and will not make the playoffs.

"Bottom line is we are left hoping Urban Meyer retires, because we are not beating them until he does."

UM isn't beating them when he does retire. Sad but true. As I said previously Harbaugh gives UM the best chance to finish in the 2nd to 4th place in the B1G East.
