Michigan v. Villanova Basketball tonight 6:30 FS1

I think a PSA may be in order about this game.  Never has a National Championship game rematch garnered less attention from a fan base than this one.  I was kind of thinking there would be a preview today or something, a mention, a faint whisper, a fading memory, something, maybe?

Anyway, I get it, there is a lot of football still to be played.  And frankly, if this year follows the same path as, like, every Beilein team except for that one we will lose this game in howling fashion.  But it is a thing that is occurring so just a reminder to check in on it tonight.  Revenge tour continues?  Maybe?  No?

Go Blue.

I'll take this TO to ask whether Nova is actually good, like they're current ranking says they are, or if their just living off last years success?  I don't know...

But UM looks pretty good in the first half, here...

we can't let their defensive pressure in the second half effect them like the Ohio State game last year.

Sometimes intermission comes at the worst time.

Keep up the energy and take care of the ball! Go Blue!

I don't care how raw 'nova is - they're national champs, have a bunch of good players and a tough home court.

Michigan played an incredible half of basketball!

Amazing, suffocating defense, aggressive rebounding the likes of which we haven't seen from a Beilein team, and smart offense.

With Mathews, Iggy, Livers and Teske, we're gonna be able to swarm the basket; if we can generate just enough outside shooting, we're gonna be damn tough.

So, I counted 30 first half possessions for Michigan and 29 for Villanova.  Michigan, despite throwing up two air balls from 3 and missing the front end of a 1 and 1, managed a stunning 1.47 ppp in the first half.  Villanova?  0.59.  That's... I don't even.

Michigan is shooting 14/20 on 2s; 'nova is 4/15.

Michigan with 1 turnover for a 3.3% turnover rate; Villanova has 10, for a 34.5% rate.

The only place where Michigan is trailing a bit is on the offensive glass; Michigan is rebounding 31.3% of their misses whereas Villanova is getting 40%.

Even if you assume the pace picks up a bit in the second half, and you figure Villanova might get 1.25 ppp at the top end -- 61 points might win this game.  Basically, if Michigan can score 0.5 ppp in the second half, they've got a good chance to win, and if they can manage 0.8 ppp, it's almost a foregone conclusion.

Go Blue!

This just makes me laugh thinking about all the people calling the season after the first two games.

College basketball is fickle, and I bet this game sort of finds a mean in the second half but it's nice to see the team gel more and more every game this year.
