Who stays and who goes early?

Submitted by TK on

Yes I know much can change by the end of the season, and it’s only opinion at this point, but I’d like to hear thoughts on which underclassmen we may lose after this season. My thoughts:

Patterson- Likely gone. The rumor has been that he is a one and done and has been in some first round mocks. However, I guess maybe it’s just me, but I don’t see first round talent yet. We will see.

Bredeson- Thinking he would stay. Gosh I hope at least.

Gary- gone.

Bush- Likely gone. Probably a first or second round  pick.

Hudson- No idea. Not really sure how the NFL views him a prospect. A return by him would be huge.

Long and Hill- Both guys are probably in the same boat. Leaning towards both will go and be top 3 round picks. Would be great if one returned.

I hope they all come back for my own selfish reasons but If this season turns for the worst they should all leave. I’m sick of all these players dating back to 2005 saying we’re coming back to win a championship those who stay blah blah... it’s getting old and ridiculous. Lamar woodley Leon hall chad henne mike hart Jake long Brandon graham mike Martin Maurice hurst Chris wormley Karan Higdon chase winovich.... all said the same crap and they all left with nothing. Feel so bad for these kids with such high hopes always getting shot down

I feel bad for a lot of these players, in particular Gary and the slew of WRs.  We need a foundation before we recruit the bells and whistles.  Not having a solid oline and not recruiting key positions have fucked us.

Just Guessing

Defense loses 12: Rashan Gary, Chase Winovich, Bryan Mone, Devin Bush, Khaleke Hudson, Tyree Kinnel, Lavert Hill, Brandon Watson, Lawrence Marshall, Noah Furbush, Casey Hughes, Reuben Jones

Offense loses 7: Shea Patterson, Karan Higdon, Grant Perry, Zach Gentry, Juwann Bushell-Beatty, Grant Newsome, Nolan Ulizio

Special Teams lose 3: Berkley Edwards (not on scholarship), Jared Wangler, Joe Hewlett (not on scholarship)

Not sure about Ben Bredeson and David Long.  There also might be some unexpected transfers.  Doubt that Reuben Jones and Nolan Ulizio will be offered another scholarship year.

Need to get a lot of reps for the 2nd strong defense. The 2017 defense didn’t take a step back because we heavily rotated our front in 2016. Losing all 4 D Line starters can only be mitigated if the he second 4 are getting big time quality snaps. LB I think we can be OK as although Bush probably leaves, I think Hudson stays. Seems like we can turn over DBs pretrt well and not lose much.

Gary and Bush gone in first round - Gary early and Bush late

Hill and Long depends on 2018 performance - likely Hill gone but Long stays

Hudson doesn't have a clear NFL spot, so likely stays.  Certain 5th year players like Gentry stays to develop further.

They should all come back, even Rashan. They don't owe shit to the university, but if UM is going to get back on track, we need the seniors to sacrifice so the gaps in recruiting can be addressed.

Its a lot to ask and of course won't happen, but without getting any lucky breaks in recruiting or on the field the past 3 years, we can only hope for some individual sacrifices to help right the ship.

I'd think the NFL isn't the likely pull for Patterson, baseball is.  That's potentially a bigger pull depending how the rest of the season goes.

Have to get a ton of snaps for our 3nd and 3rd stringers these next few weeks.  The 2016 defense was insanely deep and played a ton of guys, that's why the 2017 defense didn't drop off at all.

I think Hudson returns, I think Long is 50-50.  I think Gary and Bush leave for sure.  Hill is 75-25 gone.

So with graduations, we could only be returning 2-4 starters on defense.  Don Brown has shown that he can replace starters and not lose a step, but we really would need the next studs to make their marks this season.

I'm more curious about what is in those text messages.  What was Urban so worried about?  What could be more damaging that what was already released?

It’s still to early to tell, but at this point they all should stay except Gary and maybe Hill, the rest should stay at this point. But in 3-4 weeks things could change.
