One Foot Down (ND) Podcast
So this is not what I was expecting. These guys are absolutely sick of Brian Kelly and basically spend the entire hour dumping on everything ND related (the coaching staff, the uniformz, the lack of success over the last decade...) Anyway, interesting to hear a voice from the opposition that isn't a complete homer.

I do think he will get fired this year. Half the fanbase is sick of him and he'll go 7-5 and Purdue will go 8-4 and they'll jump on Brohm.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:16 PM ^
I don't expect this...
But it wouldn't shock me.
Especially if Michigan's tackles can block and Shea is as good as advertised. Because...
Well, it wouldn't result in a happy ND fanbase next week.

I agree. IF our OL comes together and is anywhere better than average, and IF Shea is as advertised, it's going to be far worse for ND than their Georgia game last year.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:52 PM ^
They don't even have to be better than average. I forget who said it on their podcast (maybe it was Jon Jansen on his), something to the effect of: if the OL can be just below average (which would be a huge improvement) and Patterson is as advertised, the team will be a ton better.
August 29th, 2018 at 8:35 PM ^
I may have missed that line, but based on the what I remember from the Jansen podcasts, I have a hard time seeing him saying anything like that, especially given how much he focuses on the importance of a dominant O-line. That sounds more like a mgoblog WTKA roundtable comment to me

Dude, you could be right. All I do is listen to these podcasts all day while I'm at work and they're starting to blend together, haha. It needs to be Saturday already!!
August 29th, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
Well, let’s hope it’s worse for ND. They only lost by 1 point to UGA.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:20 PM ^
Yeah, my score prediction has been 31-14, and if we do win that comfortably, Kelly's seat will be burning. One can easily envision additional losses to Stanford, VA Tech, and USC. Northwestern and Navy have played ND close recently as well, and Wake Forest is no joke. Even if Kelly can get to 8-4, but three of those four losses are to us, Stanford, and USC, I think he's gone.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:47 PM ^
I had a very similar feeling/score prediction of my own....and then I read the offensive tackles preview and got that sick to my gut feeling and that M way lose this game
August 29th, 2018 at 5:52 PM ^
That sounds like a personal problem. The OTs will do fine.
August 29th, 2018 at 8:36 PM ^
Do you prescribe what you’re having? Because I’m buying it and want some more!

I see them potentially losing 6 games this year. I think Michigan will destroy them, contrary to the spread. The spread gives Shea no cred.
By Sunday, the torch gathering will begin. By the FSU game, if he has not already been fired, he probably will be.
Personally, I hope that after Michigans win, they do great up to FSU, and they finish with 2 losses, then a close loss in a bowl game. That might keep him around one more year, maybe not.
I'd love to see Michigan beat him one last time at home.

I would love to see Notre Dame lose 6 games this year - especially in regards to the best win percentage race that Domers refuse to subtract that vacated wins from. However, their schedule is sort of easy - at least not difficult. FPI has them favored in every game and is projecting 9.9 wins and 2.1 losses. Per the FPI they play ZERO top 10 teams and 5 top 25 teams. I just don't see them losing 6 unless they have a lot of bad luck and the bottom drops out like MSU 2016.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:30 PM ^
I don't see Brian Kelly being in the hot seat a year after going 10-3 where they crushed USC and MSU, only lost to Georgia by 1 point because of a late lost fumble and won their bowl game over LSU.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:37 PM ^
I forgot they were 4-8 the year before that. Ouch.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
If I've learned anything the past 10 years, it's that if you have a coach who can win 10 games in a season, you might be foolish to fire him over a couple bad years. We've been through 2 coaches since we wanted to get rid of Carr, Florida has been a disappointment since Meyer left, Texas can't seem to get it going, USC always seems to underperform, LSU looks like they took a step back.
Unless you've got a sure thing lined up, I think ND would be foolish to fire Kelly. He went 12-1 the year they made the BCS, 10 wins in 2017 and 2015. I'm not sure you can ask much more than that. Not every team can be Alabama.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
Part of the issue is that that season reads 0-0 in the record books, and the next season reads 0-4. Not only has he only average 8 wins in the last four seasons (32-19), but he's had a major scandal and survived that.
If they don't win 9 games this year (and I am projecting them to not), then I think he's gone. Like Nebraska with Pelini, Notre Dame will simply be tired of winning 8 games per year. I think that's justifiable given their prestige, they should be able to do better.
August 29th, 2018 at 5:44 PM ^
I tried to listen to it but couldn't get past the opening song.
"Across 110th Street" it is not.
Neither is it "We Are ND," but still.
August 29th, 2018 at 6:13 PM ^
Wow. They sound like they are deep into the Dave Brandon years.
August 29th, 2018 at 6:43 PM ^
This podcast actually isn't half bad. They hate a lot of the same stuff we do, they have a similar amount of self-doubt that we have, and they swear more than all the family-friendly Michigan podcasts out there (kind of jealous about that actually).
EDIT: They do mention out-of-hand that Harbaugh is "on the ropes."

"They do mention out-of-hand that Harbaugh is "on the ropes."
Not sure that anybody who seriously believes this has credibility when it comes to evaluating ND football.

Notre Dame fan message board meltdowns are pretty popcorn munch-worthy
August 29th, 2018 at 8:34 PM ^
Thank-you so much for the recomendation These guys are great.
August 29th, 2018 at 9:19 PM ^
I am in no hurry to see him leave. He's beatable. The next guy they get--and there are plenty of coaches that would still jump at that job--just might be even better. I also think it is good that ND and OSU have head coaches that are both recruiting for spread-type offenses, while Michigan under Harbaugh is pursuing something different.
For that matter, I want to see ND beat Stanford and USC and FSU as well. While ND might be closer rivals for recruits and national attention, the more relevant midwestern football is perceived to be, the better for Michigan ultimately.
August 29th, 2018 at 10:57 PM ^
I don’t see how most ND fans are not sick of Brian Kelly. He is an asshole and not exciting. I am glad we have an exciting coach.
August 29th, 2018 at 11:11 PM ^
I was guilty of a lil chuckle when they talked about how Dane Crist often peed down his leg. Back inn2nd grade
August 30th, 2018 at 2:28 AM ^
They seem like reasonable fans, but in case anyone is reading the comments before listening, they really don't talk about the Michigan game from what I heard though I did skip through parts a few minutes at a time. It's more about crapping on the state of the program.
