OT: G.O.A.T Home Amenities

Submitted by MichiganFan1984 on

Ok... I believe this is part 5. What are your top 3 GOAT Home Amenities?

For me... 1. Gas grill line hose, not having to refill a tank is priceless.

2. Hotub, living in Michigan sucks for 6 months out of the year and this is a way to be outside when the weather sucks.

3. Basketball hoop on driveway, it always gives kids something to do and only has an initial cost.

These are based on the following criteria, the amenity is realistically affordable, it makes your life better/nicer and it is not something that is basic in most houses (like a/c or furnace, although I grew up without a/c and damn that’s a nice thing to have lol) anyways give me your top 3 based on that criteria.

I have an induction cooktop in my apartment and cant stand it. Almost none of my old pans worked with the stove, and the ones I did buy that were 'induction ready' had about a 50% hit rate for working correctly.

Definitely easy to clean, but I would rather cook with gas any day

Gas grill? Step 1, look into Black Diamond Charwood. Pure carbon Birch charcoal that burns clean and is reuseable. I had a box last me nearly two summers.

We remodeled our master bathroom a few years ago and rearranged the floor plan so we now have big shower with a huge showerhead and 3 large body sprays.  I get a nice warm back massage every morning.

Good post for OT season!

1) Wired, self-starting generator.  Virginia gets the occasional hurricane remnants, and I've gone without power (and well water) many times.

2) Fiber runs throughout the house.  Cat 6 is good, but, if you can, go with fiber.  Initially expensive, but the world is trending that way and you can get the best of internet/TV clarity without ever worrying about bandwidth forever more.

3) Heat/AC ducting and control that's actually designed for the living spaces (vs standard ducting).  My heat pumps can't keep the upstairs cool during the summer heat because they're undersized (thanks, standard home construction).  I have ceiling fans in every room, but its not enough.  I need a mini-split in a couple of rooms...

Honorable mention would be a gas grill line, but I'm seriously looking at a pellet grill as my next.
