There's no doubt - Bettman knew exactly what he was doing there.  I'll (begrudgingly) give him credit: it was a good line.

I'm also growing more convinced that Bettman is a vampire.  He FEEDS off of the boos.  They energize him.

(tangent: a few weeks ago I was watching the 1994 Cup Presentation and it was weird, the New York fans actually modestly cheered for Bettman.  Then again, New York fans were ecstatic since 1940 wasn't really a thing any longer.  The next year, the New Jersey fans booed Bettman like crazy.  It seemed to have all started then)

That was pre-lockout, when the NHL was rising enough to merit that infamous "Hot and Not" SI cover that contrasted the NHL positively with the direction of the NBA.

Then came the lockout that summer. The the trap, continued southern expansion, an entire season wiped out... Bettman's bad days were in front of him.

They gave the Conn Smyth to Ovi - the sentimental favorite for it.  Not sure he earned it on eat ice as much as either Kuznetsov or Holtby, but its a tough argument either way.  Congrats, Ovi!!!

I live here in DC (well Arlington, VA - but hey, historically part of DC) and have for nearly 30 years.  Been going to Caps games ever since I've been here - it's hard to convey just how much this win means to folks here.  The city is ebullient.  Great to see Ovi, Backstrom and the Caps get the Stanley Cup - really good for this area.  It did suck to get up at 5 am to get my son to hockey though...

Finally!  I loved how the Caps played this whole series - they played balls-out and it paid off.  First championship (other than MLS) for my hometown since the 'Skins won the Super Bowl after the '91 season.  The only thing that would have made this more satisfying is if the Caps had beaten the rags during the playoffs.  #ALLCAPS

Congrats Ovi and the Caps, they definitely took the hard road but that made it that much sweeter.

Best finals in a long time, mostly because of the uncertainty:

the "all-choke" team vs the "has no idea how the fuck they got there team" = totally unpredictable!

Caps fans enjoy a well deserved ship party and I'm sure the Vegas fans didn't leave too disappointed or just went and partied.
