Congrats to you and your wife VABlue and all other Caps fans!
Hell yeah!! So satisfying!!!
Congrats, CAPS!!!!
If they want to skip the White House, they're always welcome at the Kremlin!
Congrats to the Caps and Alex O.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Crowd boos Bettman. Bettman: "Once again, you've proven this is an NHL city!"
Awesome. 100% awesome.
LOL!! I caught that, too! It was perfect, and he didn't even know what he said!!
I think Bettman is awful, but I will credit him here: I think he knew exactly what he was saying. He even paused for the boos.

There's no doubt - Bettman knew exactly what he was doing there. I'll (begrudgingly) give him credit: it was a good line.
I'm also growing more convinced that Bettman is a vampire. He FEEDS off of the boos. They energize him.
(tangent: a few weeks ago I was watching the 1994 Cup Presentation and it was weird, the New York fans actually modestly cheered for Bettman. Then again, New York fans were ecstatic since 1940 wasn't really a thing any longer. The next year, the New Jersey fans booed Bettman like crazy. It seemed to have all started then)
That was pre-lockout, when the NHL was rising enough to merit that infamous "Hot and Not" SI cover that contrasted the NHL positively with the direction of the NBA.
Then came the lockout that summer. The the trap, continued southern expansion, an entire season wiped out... Bettman's bad days were in front of him.
He's gotten so used to the booing that for a while, he wouldn't even say anything other than "The winner is..." for the Conn Smythe. This may be the longest he's talked in years.
It's well deserved, he's the worst commissioner in professional sports.
100% agree.
They gave the Conn Smyth to Ovi - the sentimental favorite for it. Not sure he earned it on eat ice as much as either Kuznetsov or Holtby, but its a tough argument either way. Congrats, Ovi!!!
That woman in the gold dress near Bettman's head... oh man!
So do they just add another level to the Stanley Cup when they inevitably run out space for the names of the teams on the bottom?
They replace the oldest band and retire it to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Yes, and no. The top band comes off, and they add a new band to the bottom. They can fit 13 Cup winners onto each band, and the band stays on the Cup for 7 years. That's a good, long time with your name on it...
Yes. They "retire" the oldest one when they do that, and it goes on display at the HHOF.
Good God! Looks like all the Vegas fans changed shirts into a CAPS color!!
Seeing the Stanley Cup presented, passed around and lifted... best in all of sports!
Anybody else notice the 'Remember the Titans' music in the background during the cup presentation? Hahahahaha

Didn't realize it was that, but I did hear the theme park music. Felt like Kings Dominion (or Cedar Point) was hosting the game.
Great Hockey. finally caps.
not a hockey fan, but that was an amazing game to watch

CAPS! CAPS! CAPS!

Happy to see the Caps and especially Ovi finally get to raise the cup.
I live here in DC (well Arlington, VA - but hey, historically part of DC) and have for nearly 30 years. Been going to Caps games ever since I've been here - it's hard to convey just how much this win means to folks here. The city is ebullient. Great to see Ovi, Backstrom and the Caps get the Stanley Cup - really good for this area. It did suck to get up at 5 am to get my son to hockey though...
Finally! I loved how the Caps played this whole series - they played balls-out and it paid off. First championship (other than MLS) for my hometown since the 'Skins won the Super Bowl after the '91 season. The only thing that would have made this more satisfying is if the Caps had beaten the rags during the playoffs. #ALLCAPS
Congrats Ovi and the Caps, they definitely took the hard road but that made it that much sweeter.
Best finals in a long time, mostly because of the uncertainty:
the "all-choke" team vs the "has no idea how the fuck they got there team" = totally unpredictable!
Caps fans enjoy a well deserved ship party and I'm sure the Vegas fans didn't leave too disappointed or just went and partied.
