Open Thread: USA vs. Russia

Hello out there, we're on the air, it's hockey...morning today

Should be a good one as two medal favorites face off - USA vs the host Russians.  Datsyuk is not playing at 100% for Russia, but of course they still have a ton of scoring talent on the team.  

USA vs. Russia - 7:30 EST, NBCSN

 

For anyone in Chicago, the Michigan bar "Diag" is open for the game.

Lot of criticism of shootout but how else are you supposed to decide a prelim? Are you really going to have them play sudden death for 15 more minutes, 2 OT's, 3 OT's? It's preliminary. When the medals are on the line, get rid of it. But this is just a preliminary game.

Does the shootout loser still get a point or whatever?  I'm assuming so but not positive with olympic rules.  I'm guessing they get more credit than a straight up loss.
