Noon games open thread

Submitted by Avant's Hands on

Some pretty decent games going on at noon finally. TCU-OSU (NTOSU) should be a good one on FOX. And TT-WV features the last undefeated team in the Big XII. South Car-Tenn and UGa-Vandy could be interesting. Florida-Mizzou is suddenly a big game that starts at 12:30. And if you really hate yourself you can watch Sparty beat up on Purdue or see NW-Minny.

TT already up on WV

I'll throw this in that USC (NTUSC) is also playing pretty poorly.  I know Tenn is on the rise, but I'm not seeing why the Gamecocks are #11 right now.

Purdue pins State and then gets a facemask that gets them back out to normal field position. Good job, boys.

Also, Minny is suddenly up on NW and is trying to effectively end their season.

Our bye coming before Sparty, I know we have played inconsistent this year and state's reason for existence is beating us, I say the bye week is perfect and we will beat Sparty, their offense just isn't good.

Don't use the transitive theory.  Cook cant hit anything today - that happens from time to time.  Same kid who threw 70% last week.  His OL protects him extremely well - big difference from 2012 when MSU OL was a sieve.  He is a sophomore - they will have ups and downs.  UM is their super bowl, so they will have emotion and if Cook hits 55% of his throws they will have a competent offense as they have a few good RBs (Langford and their freshman).    I dont know if Purdue plays a press coverage either - I have watched about 15 minutes of this monster of a game only, but we certainly don't so WRs will be open.  MSU defense will keep them in any game save for Oregon and a few teams like that.  There are none of those teams in the Big 10. None.

MSU punter is damn good - so many times he pinned Purdue inside the 10 when our punter could not execute a pooch punt once.  Special teams makes a difference in close games and we have been severely lacking this year.  For all the dumb things Sparty does they have had 2-3 top end punters back to back, and of course now play a level of defense that essentially won games against 2 poop teams in games 1-2 and has the only points today.  But I am envious of that punter, who booms it 60 yards when necessary but still has placement skills for the pooches.  Effects field position all day, every game.

I feel like the gap between pro and college quarterback play has never been so apparent. It just really seems like a lot of quarterbacks can't pass at all this year.

I was just talking with a friend. How many Big Ten programs are better today than they were 10 years ago?

I could only realisitically make an argument for Indiana. That was it. Everyone else was either about the same or worse. How sad is that?

Arguably, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Nebraska, Michigan State and Indiana are better than they were ten years ago.

It's close, but these teams have been a little more consistent.

Hard to say with OSU until they play more elite teams, but it's hard to argue with undefeated.
