Afternoon Games Open Thread
Don't expect to see an upset bid here but you never know with Clemson involved.
Baylor(15) @ KSU
Baylor puts up ridiculous offensive numbers always interesting to watch.
Florida(17) @ LSU(10)
Terrible offense against a suspect defense.
Oregon(2) @ Washington(16)
This one will show if Washington is for real
NW(19) @ Wisco
This game has already seen back to back turnovers. Should be an exciting game.

So I assume we want Wisconsin to win over NW? I see two good reasons:
1. It helps us in our division race
2. It keeps UW alive in its division - if they win out and we and someone else beats Ohio, UW finishes first. (Granted, I have no idea who the "someone else" would be - Illinois? PSU?)
October 12th, 2013 at 3:51 PM ^
As I said previously, I would think that's correct. I'm rooting for Northwestern becaues I like them better, but I think it's always in our best interst for any Leader to beat any Legend.
October 12th, 2013 at 3:54 PM ^
I agree in general, except that I'll root for anyone to beat Ohio, because 1) it's Ohio and 2) I'd hate to have to play them two straight weeks.

If NW loses today they are 0-2 and most likely out of the division title chance. At best they'd probably tie for first, and it would require a faultless stint against MSU, Neb, and UM. So I am rooting for Wiscy - this makes NW basically a spoiler the rest of the way. They just have a brutal schedule.
October 12th, 2013 at 3:55 PM ^
For whatever reason, I want to see Northwestern do well. Not better than us, but just well.
October 12th, 2013 at 3:58 PM ^
I know what you mean - I kind of like them as well. if we can't win the division, I definitely want them to. But Michigan's interests come first.
October 12th, 2013 at 4:04 PM ^
Did a Northwestern fan holding a sign reading "We think you can! We think you can!" at the Ohio State game sway you? I guess it's cute that they've comanded some of the spotlight for an offseason given their history of being terrible.

I am bummed all these games are on at once. I know most teams now dont want to put premier games on at noon EST but Oregon-Washington, NW-Wiscy, LSU-Florida all interesting and of course overlap with our game. Plus I'd like to watch 20 minutes of Baylor just for kicks.

What channel is the Oregon game on?

October 12th, 2013 at 4:00 PM ^
The new Fox sports channel. No idea why that game is on Fox Sports and Baylor v Kansas State is on the main Fox. Should be switched.

Just found it on FS1

The ALCS/Nascar are to blame. No games on ABC or Fox tonight. Also no league would schedule a marquee conference game opposit the red river shootout.
October 12th, 2013 at 3:52 PM ^
the NW loss would be nice....however with all that said the Legends will be decided in November. Until then don't giveaway a winnable game.

ABC is using a very low angle for the NW-Wiscy game, similar to what CBS does with SEC games. I wonder if this is in response to complaints

Bubble screens or not, our YPA is pretty good as it is. We don't exactly run the Mike DeBord offense.

Regardless, I think watching other teams play and agonizing over why Michigan doesn't do everything they do is a little silly. We do things that other teams probably wish they could do, also.

That FG drive by Northwestern, incidentally, went like this:
+4 (rush), +7 (pass), +9 (rush), +9 (rush), +7 (rush), -1 (rush), -6 (sack).
Wisconsin has six rush attempts thus far for -1 yard.

Does anyone else notice that cbs college football games are always longer? It's not an sec thing because sec games on espn don't often end as late as cbs.

Can someone explain to me why a team does the OL shift on PATs? (line up nowhere near the ball than shift back over it) I always wondered. Not being on a football team in HS I thought maybe it was something obvious than I never understood.

Wow that camera following Abbrederis shows the sad state of affairs in the NW back 7. He might as well have been invisible.

I just stumbled upon this video of nittanyville (student campout the week before football games). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSDN_uTv5Yk It seems like a cool concept and as a student, I would campout before big games like Nebraska, little brother, and Ohio.

There's been such great feedback about waiting in lines thus far, I don't see why more waiting wouldn't work.
October 12th, 2013 at 4:19 PM ^
Those who don't want to wait in lines still wouldn't have to, but for those of us who don't mind as much I think it would make it a more enjoyable experience.
October 12th, 2013 at 4:23 PM ^
If you already like waiting in lines why would they change anything for you? The only changes the AD will make is ones targeted at getting kids into seats in time for kick off.
October 12th, 2013 at 4:15 PM ^
It might be important to note at this point that the Unstoppable Throw God is 3 of 8 for 25 yards at the moment. Mind you, it is early yet. Something oddly Big Ten about this quarter in that eight third downs have been attempted, but only one has been successful.
October 12th, 2013 at 4:20 PM ^
Well the Big 10 DOES have 6 of the top 19 defenses in the country per total defense stats. /Drink
There is just so much team speed out there on defense it is difficult for offenses to get going

As UW-NW goes on, I've decided I want UW to win big. Make NW look like a fraud and Ohio's win over them meaningless.
October 12th, 2013 at 4:35 PM ^
Ohio beat both of them
