Kudos to the Washington State flag guys.  But there shouldn't be three times as many WSC flags as Michigan flags AT GAME DAY IN ANN ARBOR.

Tom Rinaldi fluff piece alert...Tom Rinaldi fluff piece alert...Tom Rinaldi fluff piece alert....

FALSE ALARM...but it's coming, people, beware.

EDIT: This Tulane piece is acutally a good one, and touching; very sad.  I was referring to a Michigan-ND matchup cheese-fest segment.

Saw a sign that says "Calvin sucks."  Being a Calvin College alum myself, this must be a Hope fan that is really passioniate about the Calvin-Hope rivalry?!

A: What do you expect?  All of Ingall's Mall and the Diag to be full of people?

B: I was there for a bit and saw a lot of people pulling up just before 10.  Some people aren't aware that it starts at 9am.

C: Watching it on TV now, it was much bigger and louder in person.

I never realized until yesterday that Harmon is the *only* Wolverine to ever wear 98. Yeah, let's give it to a guy who's started six games and throws interceptions like it's his job. 98 should have been left on the shelf forever.

I guess my main point is that he has literally thrown a bad one at least once a game. Either way, we should wait until he has more success before giving him Tom effing Harmon's number. He hasn't even beaten a rival as a starter yet, unless you count Minnesota. It feels semi-Ron Powlus-esque

The point of giving these numbers out hasn't been to anoint these players as the next coming of or as good as the player who gave the number it's fame. It is to honor them by giving them to players who exemplify Michigan values and those players legend as Michigan men. I think Devin is a fine example, a guy who does whatever is needed to help the team. Move to wide receiver, sacrifice for the team without complaint. Then to move back to quarterback and he has become a true leader and appears to be an outstanding young man. I have no problem with him as the choice. Good for him and I truly believe he respects and understands who and what Tom Harmon means to Michigan so a wise choice again.

Does he still deserve 98 if two years from now he has an 0-3 record against OSU and no B1G titles? These numbers are legendary because of what those men accomplished on the field, straight up excellence, in addition to being great Michigan men. Michigan has had a lot of great men over the years, but they can't all get Legend status just because they were great guys or good teammates. This is Michigan, and you have to achieve great things on the field.

Devin is not getting "Legend status" as you put it. Why do you not understand that? He is getting the honor of wearing one of Michigan's Legends numbers. It is not saying he is a legend!!!

Yeah, totally a buckeye fan dude. How am I the only one who isn't excited about given a still relatively unproven quarterback getting 98? Does no one else realize what that number means? It doesn't mean that Devin isn't a good player or won't tear it up this year, but...98 man.

Pissing excellence on an hourly to hourly, day to day basis.

1st of some of the greatest Heisman Winners

Pitching a shutout on Ohio

/GOAT (Greatest Of All-Time, to the layman)

I love Devin Gardner.  98 he is not.  Then again, they're numbers on a shirt, who gives a sh*t I guess.

It means "The *only* guy to ever wear this number was so absurdly good that in addition to winning the Heisman playing both ways, he got a standing ovation in columbus. He is referred to more often by his number than his name. 'Ol' 98' since you seem to not know." Now his jersey number, which has sat idle since before WWII is being handed out to a very talented but still unproven player in what appears to be an increasingly contrived effort to promote Michigan's tradition with jersey numbers.

I guess no one else here grew up hearing stories about Tom Harmon from their grandfather, so whatever. Rawk music, matte helmetz, bumblebee uniforms, wooo.

I think Hoke would say that they have earned it.

crist, people. you're putting these numbers on such a high pedestal that no one would be worthy until they won the heisman. Now, maybe that's justified- but if so just say that you don't want ANYONE to have 98. don't bitch about DG getting it as a SR JR.

and I think Hoke would say that they have earned it. it's pretty clear that the criteria isn't completely starting experience, importance to the team, number of all conference seasons, etc. it has a lot more to do with character and demonstrated committment to the team. Now under this criteria, please name one player on the team who deserves 98 more than DG.

Count me in the don't-like-it crowd. Giving a Heisman winner's number to a QB with 6 starts to his name? And #98 at that. Stupid.

Of course, the Legends jerseys are dumb anyway. Still irritated that they changed the numbers on Kovacs, Funchess, and Ryan.

Wow, that was embarrassing. Just finished a segment about Gardner's skills, spent some time critiquing Denard's throwing ability. They were trying to get the crowd involved, and it was totally dead. Fowler with a dreaded "tough crowd" comment.
Michigan gets lots of Gameday but doesn't always show well for it.
