OT: woman pulled over because OHIO sticker looks like drug symbol
Jonas-Boggioni and her husband, Giorgio Boggioni, 66, of Plano, Texas, were driving home through Tennessee from Columbus, Ohio, where they had attended a funeral for Jonas-Boggioni's mother.
The two were pulled over a few miles east of Memphis, along I-40, and were greeted by a pair of black SUVs containing officers wearing "body armor and guns," Jonas-Boggioni told Joe Blundo of The Columbus Dispatch.
"What are you doing with a marijuana sticker on your bumper?" one of the officers asked.

OHIO is the bobcats. Ohio is the Buckeyes.
February 16th, 2013 at 1:15 AM ^
Don't be like that.
JK you're all right. But forget the whole state, man. Ain't no good come from Ohio.

But I am referring to the lyrics of a song by Talking Heads. Given that your avatar is a Grateful Dead logo, you are forgiven.

Since when is it illegal in ANY state to display a picture of a leaf of marijuana with no other associated paraphenalia? I'm pretty sure many of my gradeschool science textbooks had photos of various drug plants like marijuana and poppies. #DrugsInOurSchools?
For what it's worth, at least this mixup is funny. WHen people mix up a wolverine with a badger, I get pissed.
February 15th, 2013 at 9:41 PM ^
A lot of better options to display than a Buckeye if you were pro marijuana, FWIW.
February 15th, 2013 at 10:19 PM ^
Yeah, a bumper sticker is NOT probable cause. I'd be surprised if this doesn't turn into a freedom of speech issue.
February 16th, 2013 at 1:17 AM ^
I too get regularly mistaken for a Badger when in fact I am a Wolverine. KNOW YOUR MUSTELIDS.

Exactly.

This war on drugs is getting pretty sophisticated. Guess it's time to take that "Trunk full of heroin!" sticker off my bumper.
February 15th, 2013 at 9:32 PM ^
You leave it there. Then, when the cops pop the trunk...
What? You DON'T own the car from Repo Man? Aw heck...
February 15th, 2013 at 9:29 PM ^
who cares if they did have a weed sticker? hell if the rednecks here in southern ohio can have plastic balls hanging off their trucks whats the big deal about weed stickers? those cops are fools lol

Exhibit A.
Exhibit B.
I don't see the difference...

...there once was a time when people immigrated to the US in order to avoid harrassement by government sponsored thugs.
This story reminds of the recent one in Texas where a couple of women fingered roadside on suspicion of marijuana.
#policestate indeed
February 16th, 2013 at 12:41 PM ^
Yeah, it's a complete joke to watch our rights evaporate, and watch those that are there to protect and serve the people, only protect and serve the system.I see too much of this nonsense , from the LAPD shooting up cars with no provocation to catch a cop killer, to citizens in Illinois that film police officers are being charged with eavesdropping charges. Police officers were never intended to be revenue generators, but now, I think that is their main purpose. Policestate is exactly right.
February 15th, 2013 at 10:05 PM ^
The police would have pulled him over for something completely legal. They search the car and find a fat sack of Humbolts finest. Isn't that Uncontitutional? I guess the fourth amendment does count as much as the second.
February 15th, 2013 at 10:14 PM ^
I hope they could get that overturned. If police can support any search and siezure by claiming that ignorance led them to believe something in plain sight was illegal when it was not, that'd give them legal justification to search anything at any time.

Sounds like I had better stay out of Tennessee with my vehicle with Colorado plates.
And keep a low profile everywhere else.
February 15th, 2013 at 11:08 PM ^
you did this while chock full of Heineken. That's truly amazing.
February 15th, 2013 at 11:57 PM ^
Guilty as charged. This was a fairly easy shop job though; the "color picker" tool on gimp made it easy enough to match the background red and the outline yellow, and then it's just a question of finding the right font on Powerpoint. Also a question of finding my freaking Heineken glass so I don't have to drink out of the dang can.

Is that really a reason to get pulled over? I think it was for being an OHIO fan

February 16th, 2013 at 10:41 AM ^
They're pissed about Derrick Green too. So don't drive thru Tenn. with a Michigan sticker on your car either.
February 16th, 2013 at 8:18 AM ^
drive thru the state of Tennessee with weed. Only moonshine or meth.
February 16th, 2013 at 8:51 AM ^
are pulling over old ladies with buckeye stickers instead of those law-abiding pill pushers traveling along I-75, aka the Oxycontin Highway.
February 16th, 2013 at 9:27 AM ^
Being a Buckeye fan is probable cause for police search..... hmmmm.... I like it.
February 16th, 2013 at 10:48 AM ^
I guess I can see how the mixup could happen. When I was a kid, I rooted for Ohio State because I thought it was cool that they had marijuana stickers on their helmets.
Of course, I was 10 and was not a professional law enforcement officer.
February 16th, 2013 at 12:55 PM ^
with the story, otherwise the officer just opened himself and his department up to a 42 USC 1983 suit, albeit for small damages. i do think it's rather unusual that a 66 yr old lady was apparently able to so specifically cite the MJ leaf characteristics. i'm guessing there's some paul harvey 'rest of the story' info out there somewhere.
