OT: Car decals/emblems.
Slow Saturday afternoon, and I could use some advice.
I'm thinking about buying my first car this week, and I obviously need some sort of U-M decoration on it. I'd like something classy and understated, so "kid peeing on buckeye" decal is out. Any suggestions? I'm leaning toward a chrome emblem, something like this:
Or a front plate like this if it will fit on the car:
While we're on the topic, what decals, etc. do you have on your car?

I have a very similar decal as the one on top on the back of my car. I'm too lazy to get up and look right now, but its pretty close. I really like it, but honestly I think I like the license plate more. I don't know dude, just go with your heart.

Cars that you have to give back to your Mom and Dad don't count.

Yeah? Well I have many leather-bound books, and my appartment smells of rich mahogany.

Until I received it in the mail. It was plastic and had double sided tape to attach it to the vehicle. Didn't make it too far.
I now have a block M sticker on my back window about 4" tall on the lower left side with WOLVERINES centered along the bottom in about 3" letters.
Framing the license plate is the alumni frame from the alumni association.
If you see me rolling around Nashville feel free to honk.

Michigan Alumni license plate frame.

I got one of those for Christmas, it was the all silver one. It looks very nice. My son also found an internet store that lets you choose a Michigan window emblem in any color. I have one in silver for the Lincoln and Black for the Buick. I would reccomend matching it to your car.

Thanks, that's what I was worried about. I love the clean look, but if it's junk then it's not worth it.

An "I wish I was a Michigan Alum" License plate, I would rock it.
February 2nd, 2013 at 3:50 PM ^
Those would sell well in East Lansing.
February 2nd, 2013 at 7:35 PM ^
Shouldn't it be "I wish I were a Michigan Alum"?
Gotta use that subjunctive, brah.

Maize or White Block M. Keep it simple.

I haven't seen any plain maize/white, any idea where to find them? I don't mind the maize with small blue outline I've seen at the M Den.

When there was a huge online sale on some website. I forget the name but it was around the time when we went from Nike to Adidas. The decal on my back window had both a block M and wolverines. Kinda wish I had just centered the block M on the back with nothing else. It's white so no fading can be done. The previous license plate frame I had was blue but faded pretty bad from the summers down here. Even the better one I have now is taking a beating but still in better shape than the previous.
I'd just check online on site after site, there has to be a plain block M decal for your window.

When I bought a new car I went with the metal Michigan emblem on the back. It looks like it's suppose to be there. Plus my car is red and I live in Ohio, so I had to distinguish it from the other suckers thinking different. Go Blue

Make sure you get an actual crome one. No paint.
Hope this helps.

I have a metal split M emblem on the back. I had a custom blue Tach face made that says Go Blue (that was all a part of me changing the interior lighting from red to blue...odo has to stay red though) I got a custom leather shift boot with blue and yellow stitching. My ICE has a Michigan themed home screen. I painted my intake manifold cover blue and yellow. If they made Michigan themed performance parts, that is what I would have gotten. My car is my man cave.

I can't see the picture for some reason, but it sounds awesome. I prefer my stuff to be clean and decorations kept to a minimum, but I love seeing things that have been completely tricked out in Maize and Blue.

I've bought 3 magnetic decals for my car. Big pros and cons with those. Just slap on, they're great because I don't want to damage my car with stickers. Plus you can move them around for variety... hood, trunk, door, etc.
Now for the cons. Unfortunately, I've had 2 stolen off my car. One when I was in a "urban" neighborhood overnight. And the second when I parked my car in a lot near a few college-type bars. Unfortunately with the third I now have to peel it off and place it in my trunk every time I leave the car outside.

Just bought a block M and Detroit D to put on the bottom corners of my back window of my truck, as well as two American flags to put on the top corners. AMERICA! I probably need a Michigan license plate now too.
edit: Just bought a diamondplate Michigan plate!

shakes fist at split M.

If I could find a diamondplate one that wasn't the split M I'd get it, but I can't.

Really like the white outline. Looks like I've got tons of good options.

Very nice. And if NC joins the B1G, you will have a leg up.

You should just put a fat head over your car.

Got the "Hail" sticker on the whip. It takes a certain level of knowledge for a common passer-by to know what it means.

I have two decals on the rear door windows, a blue M on the right and the UofM seal on the left. I also have the "University of Michigan" lettering across my car rear window.
February 2nd, 2013 at 5:25 PM ^
is on our car along with an oval A2 sticker and personalized VA license plate IMISBO.
Some folks with chrome emblems have had them stolen.
February 2nd, 2013 at 5:29 PM ^
Not sure how common or expensive they are in your homestate (MI?), but BlockM would send a message, and your fellow bloggers might even recognize you on the road.
February 3rd, 2013 at 8:16 AM ^
BlockM is unfortunately not available in Michigan. I assume that was one of the first U-M themed vanity plates taken. They're not all that expensive, but unless I could get one I really want I don't think it's worth it.
February 2nd, 2013 at 5:40 PM ^
I went with the chrome M as well. Like a few others said, it looks like it's supposed to be there and really stands out against the black paint.
It's been about six months and is still going strong through car washes and the current MN winter.
