Hopefully CBS doesn't unleash 60 Minutes of unnecessary roughness on us.
November 18th, 2012 at 7:27 PM ^
My guess is it will be 60 minutes of talking about how difficult it is for smaller programs to compete against athletic powerhouses such as Michigan and Alabama.

If true, that would be a major let-down.

People on the old side here might remember a Today Show visit to UMich many years ago. So long ago that Jane Pauley was the co-anchor (/host) with Bryant Gumbel. Anyway, the show also featured Brown.
It appeared to me at the time that they were painting UMich as more of a generic "State U" than a Public Ivy. Our profiled first-year student was a hick from rural / semi-rural Michigan and Brown's was (of course) a well-spoken Philly Main Line specimen.

I was in the MMB, which was up REAL early (esp. for college students) to be in uniform on the steps of the Grad and performing occasionally. Willard Scott had a bunch of Fijis in togas or something helping with a weather segment. And they contrasted UM's band with Brown's, which is much more like Stanford's scatter band.

Look in the promo they managed to turn Navy Seal leadership training into "look at this poor kids being worked full time in the off-season". I. HATE. EVERYTHING.

We are a football factory, but we also have academics which most other powers Alabama, LSU, Florida do not have.

Do you think they will talk in-depth about monkey rodeo?
November 18th, 2012 at 8:05 PM ^
I think the recruiting and exposure is why we agreed to it. I am going to pissed if it turns into a Michigan bashing fest.

I remember a tweet from the guy that did the piece (back when he did the initial interviews) had nothing but good things to say about Hoke and Dave Brandon.
At U of M yesterday for upcoming 60 piece on big time CFB. AD Brandon and HC Hoke at head of the class when it comes to it.

Potential recruits' grandparents might watch Sixty Minutes. I kind of doubt recruits will care one way or the other though.

This infant research piece is very intriguiing. Personally, I believe the early results point towards the belief that humans have a genetic basis for a basic sense of morality (taking out any early conditioning the infants experience).

Watching 60 minutes for the Michigan report, but fascinated by this peice on baby morality.
