Big East Divisions Announced
While I get the East/West split, I am baffled to explain why Temple is in the West. Louisville is clearly the better option.

that they didn't take the Big Ten's lead in using non-geographic names for the divisions.

Shitty Teams & Even Shittier Teams

We should start a naming petition like people did with the B1G. That should ramp up some excitement in what it otherwise an apathetic and lousy football conference.

I was thinking Scraps and Leftovers, but I like this one too.

They really should have gone with something more exacting like "Kind Of East" and "More Or Less West", although I find it interesting that, according to the article, part of Temple's presence in the "West" is its interrupted history in the conference as well as it's only potential in-state rival being headed to the ACC now. To that end, I cannot wait for the transcontinental rivalry that will surely develop between San Diego State and Temple. There's a game that fans almost 2,400 miles to see....

East and All Over the Place

They actually were going to use something other than non-geographic names since the Big East West division will be a little confusing to say the least.

It might be time for a BIG/ Big East challenge in football? Who truly is the worst conference in football? Looking forward to that Indiana v. South Florida matchup.

Well, Indiana did put up 49 on the Buckeyes. I like their chances.

As much as we like to poo poo on the Big Ten, it's still far better than both the Big East and the ACC.
Compare us to the ACC. Call OSU and FSU a wash for this year. Clemson would be at least a 3-loss team even in the Big Ten, and everyone else is garbage.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:51 PM ^
See, Delany? Nothing wrong with geographic division names like every other conference in football.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:59 PM ^
wouldn't this encourage Temple to start looking for a new conference.
/kind of sarcasm
November 13th, 2012 at 4:02 PM ^
OT? Anyway, Louisville has played the teams in the east were as Temple is new to the conf they have no roots. Doesnt really matter though they all suck.
November 13th, 2012 at 4:17 PM ^
Louisville couldn't go west because it would split up the Louisville/Cincinnati rivalry.
No conference would ever take its best traditional rivalry and split the teams into opposite divisions, right?
November 13th, 2012 at 4:23 PM ^
The East keeps the 5 long-standing conference members together.
They should have sent C. Florida west and kept Temple in the East, keeping the current 6 Big East members together, but I imagine they wanted a S.Florida / C. Florida rivalry. And, I mean, who can't wait for that dog-fight every year for the Wednesday night game of the week?
November 13th, 2012 at 5:08 PM ^
Within a couple of years Louisville may be in the Big12 anyway. Navy joins in 2015 so if is still in the conference by then they will have to add another school to get to 14 teams

I don't give this arrangement much time before it disappears now that the Biggish Eastish has exactly the same postseason access as the MWC.
November 13th, 2012 at 11:12 PM ^
I wonder if they have a little buyer's remorse with their move to the Big East. Like you said, with the move coming to a 4 team playoff, the odds of a Big East team making it seem pretty slim. Now in the Big East, other than when they play each other, Boise and SDSU are going to be travelling at least half way across the country to play their conference road games and in some cases all the way across the country. The amount of miles they are going to be flying each year is crazy.
November 13th, 2012 at 5:06 PM ^
Seems like they got short end on the stick in terms of travel time
November 13th, 2012 at 6:10 PM ^
Still the best geography for a conference in history...

At this point they should just call it the Big America Conference or something.
November 13th, 2012 at 6:41 PM ^
I think they should have gone with:
- Memphis
- Louisville
- Connecticut
- Cincinnati
- Houston
- Temple
and
- Central Florida
- South Florida
- SMU
- San Diego State
- Boise State
- Rutgers
And called them the Basketball School Division and Not Even That.

Find the Big East West Division to sound kind of funny?
Just me?
November 13th, 2012 at 11:39 PM ^
Big East naming was a defensive move to prevent us from renaming to B1G East and B1G West.

Nothing the Big East does should surprise anyone. Once they add Army and Navy they should split into land and sea divisions.
November 13th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
...but does the # of teams per division or geography really matter? This conference is unorthodox in every way, might as well seal the deal.
Pleasant States Division
- Central Florida
- South Florida
- San Diego State
Crappy States Division
- Memphis
- Louisville
- SMU
- Connecticut
- Boise State
- Rutgers
- Cincinnati
- Houston
- Temple

November 14th, 2012 at 1:02 PM ^
Dear god Temple... according to google maps, their average travel distance for divisional games is a little over 1,800 miles. Total reasonable....
